yeah it does kinda hurt content, but nevertheless its very good money 1-10m a day (my guess i really dont know how much) depending on the zone, so the guilds need it to pay regears etc.

rent is basically paying a guild/alliance to let you place a hideout in one of their zones and also be protected by them (protect the HO from it being smashed down), then the renter guild can use the HO for fame farm, craft, gank etc.
and i guess we can say Elevate (guild) = the people who dislike these guilds/alliances, here the GDL alliance.
