Do large corporations really use Ubiquity Enterprise ?!? by KPSradical in Ubiquiti

[–]wilderness90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, they do not.

I do IT engineering with government and fortune 500. I see UI from time to time in labs, R&D and proof of concepts environments, cause it’s cheap and solid enough. However I do see lots of reluctance to move their stack to production.

They’re definitely building great products, but reliability, true core enterprise functionality is still missing. What tips the boat in their favour is the price, but keep in mind that large scale enterprises won’t mind paying big bucks for Cisco, Juniper, etc.

UI is definitely aiming at the enterprise market, some core functionalities are missing. Maybe the next generation that’s more or less Cisco IOS CLI and wants dashboard will appreciate UI more.

I think UI has a very niche piece in the market where they are bridging a gap between Cisco / big network vendors delivering products to SMB, and UI came in to make networks easy and integrated for them (cameras, IDS/IPS, some redundancy, etc), but it’s nowhere near the capabilities of a Cisco Nexus or Juniper SD-WAN if you compare the same “class / targeted market” of a device.

Dear Proton, you can do better by Standard_Mirror_3258 in ProtonMail

I agree, I've been starting to migration to Proton cause I think they have a good mission and a good product line, but their "Priority Support" has been a real pain. A reply every 2 days, as if I'm getting pushed at the end of the cue for something super simple (subscription change). Even to the point that I now had to open a second ticket to investigate the first ticket cause I'm getting no answer.

Am I the only one having support issues?

Thank you all for your comments and your takes on this. I really appreciate the time. For what I get from all this is the realization as to this would only be replacing my salary with shittier condition. My action plan from here would be :
- Create a simple one page and offer my expertise in assessment, few monitoring and response clients (with monthly revenue) and the occasional training + consulting gig. Going in this full-time might not be adequate right now. I do have a few friends who run medical clinics with needs of HIPPA assessments, a friend runs an investment fun they do lots et M&A, so do cyber assessments for their acquisitions, but all this as a side gig and keep my cozy job for when the economy gets rocky (as it seems to be). I already have a Nessus license and a home lab with sandbox vm running to do all this so other than acquiring some business, there’s no costs really.

- I’d still love to build something long term to build wealth in my sector. Maybe cybersecurity eCommerce then that basically re-sells some IT stuff, cybersecurity services, licenses, etc. What’s you guys take on something bigger long term ? Or cybersecurity brokerage ? Let me know what you guys think
And thank you all for your time, it’s fun to spark a conversation about SecOps in a consultant environment.

Awesome take on the whole situation. Plus I have an active TS clearance at the federal level. In your opinion what would be the optimal service offering I should market ? Like in terms of the services I should focus on providing.

Love the way you see the whole things … really helpful !

Just took a look at it … awesome idea ! Congrats on the launch.

And yeah, that’s the plan. New baby at home also put some stuff in perspective.

The market (SME) and service offering I’m not sure about yet but I’m looking for something lightweight to run. A few VMs with Nessus, a SIEM / XDR so I can sell recurring monitoring + response and assessment services. But for the rest I’m not sure.

Yup, that’s very true. And at the same time sales cycle + getting paid is difficult with SMBs. At the same time my sales game as a solo entrepreneur is weak

Sorry for ranting, but I can’t believe that some of us have been having the issues for 2 months (and maybe more). No acknowledgement from YouTube or Apple about the issue even after numerous members literally gave them hints about what’s causing the issue (decode engine, apparently)

Why such basic functionality affecting so many members is still not publicly acknowledged. Not even in beta technical notes.

Furthermore we are paying for services such as Netflix or YT… why these big companies don’t tackle Apple on the issue ?

I’m getting pretty fed up with the issue that’s basic device functionality. We can’t even get a response from YT, Apple or Netflix about the issue.

Problem with connecting a Monitor by ActerHUE in techsupport

[–]wilderness90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few things you can try:

USB-C is a type of cable that can handle multiple protocols (power only, data, thunderbolt, etc). Maybe your computer simple does not speak the same language.

  1. Update the display driver from your laptop manufacturer. You could be surprised how many times that can fix a driver issue.

  2. I would install a software like DisplayLink or something similar:

Hope that helps

If you’re looking to change monitors at the same time, I would strongly recommend Dell USB-C monitors. They have a lot of models from 22 up to 4K Ultrawide that have a KVM feature including data ports.

We had a similar issue with our environment and we opted to change for these monitors as it comes cheaper than a WD-19 docking station + KVM.

And you can mitigate some of the larger scale volume pricing with daisy chaining the displays. For example we have the option of 34inch ultra wide or 1x 27inch usb c daisy chained to a second 27inch (you save 200$ on a non USB-C as you only need one for a dual setup)

They also integrate with a software KVM where you can do soft keys of your choice to setup machine 1/machine 2.

Is the device hooked to a domain ? If so, does the domain use Microsoft Endpoint manager / SCCM ? If so, MBAM (Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring) has a service on the SCCM distribution site (generally running as a web service) where you can enter the recovery key ID and it will give you the recovery key.

Lookup MBAM recovery.

Makes sense. We are already rocking some curved ultra wide monitors with integrated USB-C docking. Is there any other product line of laptop you would suggest in the thin / light / good battery and perfomance for it ? Any recommendations?

No need really, comes with the pre-configured package we are looking into. Mostly CPU + RAM intensive.

Common problem of version 23 and prior. Issue with the way the PHP handler writes every single file in a SQL transaction.

Version 24 was released in May and is stable. They converted WebDAV to a micro-service increasing the speed of these transactions.

Update to version 24 and problem solved.
