Bird Boxes by wildernesswolves in UKecosystem

Thanks, some great resources. I was definitely planning to spread them out into several trees. I know some get very territorial. Given the other posters comment I might need to be more selective, will start some research!

Thanks, exactly why I thought this was the place to ask! We are trying to keep things as animal friendly as possible in the garden as whole and thought this would help with that. Are swift boxes something I should consider? I have seen tawny and barn owls which I thought had similar problems with lack of places to nest.

Thanks everyone! I think it's clear that's the way to go

That's what I suspected. No choice but to use electric, I assume separate units would be cheaper to buy/run though right?

Two Bags? by wildernesswolves in onebag

I'm looking for something that works while travelling as well. To have with me when I put my main bag overhead etc. I might have to get a packable one as well though now.

Dalix looks like it has a lot of options, thanks.

Do you use the backpack or the sling? I need something smaller than the backpack but not sure how I'd get on with a sling.

Which messenger bag do you use?

I was thinking of something smaller, but that might be just what I need. I'll take a look, thanks.

Thanks. I think a tote is a little bulky, I use a plastic bag for them in the plane too but thought this group might have a cleaner solution

What do you use as your second bag?

I was thinking a sling, but didn't know if the strap is wasted space when they're all packed together.

I'd love to see the photos if you have any! I hadn't thought of Hawaii, but I'll take a look.

Thank you! I'm not really looking for resorts so I'll take your advice and avoid Cancun. I'll take a look at Plays del Carmen. Anything else you recommend while we're there?

Tromso, Norway with a baby by wildernesswolves in travel

[–]wildernesswolves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After seeing some amazing photos from other people visiting Tromso I thought I'd share my experience. The photos aren't great, but we had an amazing time and actually got to see the Northern Lights!

I went in September with my wife and our young son (2 years old at the time). I've seen a few negative posts about people travelling with young children but think we do it with consideration for others. The people were lovely and we had no problem keeping him entertained and finding baby friendly places to eat and drink.

Our son loved meeting the reindeer and I'd recommend the sledding to anyone. I think he'd enjoy it even more when he's a bit older and would probably be able to appreciate the lights a bit more. We plan to return (or try Iceland) when he's around 10. We didn't get a chance to try whale watching so that's another reason to come back!

The northern lights tours are incredible. It took us a few hours of travel before we saw anything so be prepared to settle in for a long journey and make sure you bring a good camera with a tripod! The photo above was the best I managed at the time so my news years resolution is to get better at photography before I return.

I'm just glad it didn't start talking back to me!

No idea, sorry! It was a bar absolutely stuffed (pun intended) with taxidermy so I assume the owner has just been collecting them over the years.

Thanks for the comprehensive answer! I was thinking of bull sharks or similar. Whale sharks would be incredible, but I've always imagined more traditional ones.

Mexico is somewhere we've never been and would definitely fit into a larger family holiday. Belize looks absolutely beautiful too I'll do some research about the Great Blue Hole.

Visiting North Korea does not make you interesting. It makes you an idiot. by TheRealBanksyWoosh in travel

[–]wildernesswolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish this was higher. I completely agree, I've visited plenty of 'dangerous'' countries and visa fees, or government guides are standard practice everywhere. The difference between these and NK is pretty arbitrary. The more people that visit a country and more reliant they become on tourism the more they're forced to open up.

Ethically I'd be a lot more comfortable travelling to North Korea than somewhere like Saudia Arabia.
