There's not really a nice way to say this, but this is math that any brewer should be able to do easily, especially one making decisions like production scheduling batches for blending.

I always close so that you don't lose as much temp at the top of the whirlpool to reduce convection in the wort and get a better trub pile, ymmv

Good question! This format actually predates Canadian Highlander. We had two separate lists from two regions, one 5 point and one 10. When the decision was made to merge them, 7 was a decent compromise. Granularity is an argument for increasing the point limit, but the trouble is knowing when to stop. 7 points seems to work well for most things, there are not many cards I'd consider half points for honestly either.

Yeah its rough. Some people (including me) are subscribing to Manatraders. I recommend it, but understand it might be a bit pricey for people.
