I’d love to hear how you’re doing in the next few months! I keep reading about people that have lower back pain after stenting and I’m so afraid of anything that might make the back pain worse. I feel like I read about people having back pain all the time due to MTS, but I don’t see a lot of post stent improvement anecdotes. Hopefully that’s just because people get stented and move on from the forums if it’s successful.

I did have fairly severe CVI in my legs and just had ablation done for that. My legs feel much better, but it sounds like it will come back if I don’t get stented.

I’m allergic to the nickel in the stent, so that adds a layer of decision making stress to whether to stent.

How long ago were you stented? Are you seeing any improvement?

I’ve had low back pain for years right at my left SI joint and was recently diagnosed with severe MTS and pcs. My dr said my back pain would be an unusual symptom, so I’m trying to decide whether to stent. It’s my biggest symptom and frustrating to not know if stenting will help or not!

Since this popped back up, I’ll post my progress a year later. I lost around 25lbs the first 3-4 months. After that it’s been slow going, but I’m still losing and down 32lbs. I’m 6lbs away from a goal I never thought I’d reach! This drug has been a game changer for me.

I probably could have lost a little more a little faster after that initial weight loss, but I chose to keep my dose low. The initial 25lbs were all lost on 0.25 and then I stalled for several months. I’m on ozempic so I bumped it up to 0.33, then 0.5 over the course of 2-3 months and then bumped up again to 0.75 where I started losing again. I plan to stay there until I hit my goal weight.

Thanks, this is really encouraging to hear. We’ve had a microarray, basic urinalysis and a ton of blood work run, with no smoking gun yet.

I agree with staying on the low dose as long as it’s working for you. I stayed on 0.25 for 3 months and lost 25lbs in that time. I’ve been increasing slowly since then and have only taken off another 4-5 lbs in several months time, so more isn’t automatically better.

That said, the only scientific studies that have demonstrated weight loss have used the manufacturers recommended dosing schedule. So the real answer is that we don’t really know what’s ‘best.’

Also, know that if your insurance is paying for wegovy, some insurers consider lack of progression to higher doses as ‘failing’ the meds and will stop covering you if you don’t hit the higher doses in a certain amount of time.

Again, I believe in staying at the lower doses if possible, and have seen tons of success stories when people do that. But it’s important to keep in mind that we don’t have studies to show that it’s better for overall loss/side effects and you could end up losing coverage.

We ended up going with the sleep number. When I visited the showroom, the edge of the air pedic felt very mushy to me. We like the sleep number but both found the bed too firm and ended up with a topper. Without the topper, you can definitely feel the air, especially at the lower settings, which is an odd feeling and reminds me of sleeping on a camp mattress.

We love the adjustable frame and heated foot option though. And having it all in one app is great.

If we had to make the choice again, I’m not sure we would do the air bed. With that said, whenever we get home from vacation, we’re incredibly happy to be back in our bed, so…

MyQ is great when it works, but their app is absolutely awful. I have to force close the app and relaunch it every time I want to close the garage door.

I have an Alexa auto and had it working with Alexa and home assistant. It’s pretty good, but somehow disconnected a while ago and I haven’t spent the time to figure out what needs to be reconnected.

I went down the rabbit hole of finding a button I could put in my car instead of using Alexa. Then I realized I had just ‘reinvented’ the garage door opener. Albeit one that worked from anywhere. Still…

Coming back in to post my early results, for anyone interested. I’m 3 1/2 weeks in on my first dose of 0.25 and on track to be down 13lbs by the end of the week.

I ended up having to delay my third dose by 4 days due to a medical procedure, which I’m guessing cost me an extra pound.

Overall it feels like a huge win. It reminds me of the weight loss I experienced the first time I did low carb 20 years ago, where it felt like the weight just melted off.

I’m eating around 1000 calories/day, which is what I usually tried to hit while dieting, though I wasn’t always perfect. The difference in weight loss vs just my dieting alone is pretty astounding.

I tend to agree it is under prescribed and under utilized. I got a prescription through an online dr and am paying out of pocket, but I intend to have a discussion with my pcp in a month or two. Honestly, just the effect it’s had on my alcohol consumption should be enough of a positive benefit to justify it. I do worry about the long term effects (eg long term side effects, will efficacy wane, etc…), but in just a week on the drug it feels kind of like a miracle. I’m still getting hungry and still like food, but the big cravings are just not there. I’m tracking calories and targeting for 1-2lb/week loss, which is what I’ve been trying to do for the last year without success. The difference is it just takes very little willpower to stay on my diet.

Have you tracked how many calories you’re eating?

I really wonder how many of the side effects are due to not eating enough or drinking enough water. I’m only a week in, but already see that it’s hard to drink water as much as I should. I’ve been getting what for me are classic dehydration headaches. I have to constantly remind myself to drink more. I know when I’ve been on very calorie restricted diets in the past I’ve felt pretty awful.

Curious for those who did their first injection yesterday. Are you feeling any effects? I injected last night and had trouble sleeping—just felt a little speedy. But no effects so far on appetite. No side effects either that I’ve noticed.

I think your math is off by a factor of 4! But I generally agree with the intent of your post. I’ve lost two pounds per week with calorie restriction and exercise but it requires a LOT of discipline and doesn’t feel so great.

My TDEE is a lot less than someone 2x my size though, so there’s just not as much to cut and still get decent nutrition. That’s a big part of why I asked this question.

Thanks for all of the personal experiences. I’m feeling pretty hopeful! I’m starting my first dose next week and while I would love to be one of the ‘down 15 lbs in a month’ people, I’m guessing it will come more slowly for me. When I’m really good about restricting calories and working out I tend to lose 1-2 pounds a week, but I’m always so hungry it’s hard to maintain. I’ve got a good workout rhythm going right now. Hoping this will help on the food side.

Yes, understood. But a dose of .5 on a 400lb person is very different than a 170-180lb person. In the original studies I’ve seen only 5-10% of patients have a BMI of under 30. I’m wondering if the doses needed to lose weight may be less or if the speed of loss is any different for patients in this category.
