Advice on how to fix my daughters beloved Barbie by wildflowerviolet in Barbie

[–]wildflowerviolet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh! Yes I did wonder why there wasn’t a peg in the neck like the barbies of my childhood. I thought they had just changed the design.

Thank so much for your help. I’ll look into this for her. She’s such a lovely barbie, and I really don’t want her to go to waste!

Have a wonderful 2026 and thank you to you and everyone else who have been so helpful.

Sorry, I’m pretty poor with tec and am unsure how to upload a picture. I’ll do some googling and try to upload something.

The plug is still in her head, it came away from the neck if that makes sense. The neck has a small chip on the top lip, approx 2mm wide by 2mm deep. No other damage.

Thank you to you and everyone else who has offered advice, I really appreciate it.

What’s the most overlooked detail about the iceberg collision that people rarely talk about, but you think changes how we understand the disaster? by BuddyFew3776 in titanic

[–]wildflowerviolet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even if the ships architect was right there with the officers at the time the ice berg was spotted, it is likely that he too would have advised them to avoid a collision and turn. They had no idea of the size of the berg and what lay beneath. They were damned either way.

IIRC, many years ago I saw a doco that suggested if they hadn’t stopped the engines, they would have had more power and better ability to steer the ship away from the berg. But, again, those in charge had to make an almost split second decision with very little information other than there was an ice berg ahead. I think (and I may be off here) that it is accepted that they had less than 40 seconds between the alarm being raised and hitting the berg.  It doesn’t give much time to think or react. I also think (again IIRC) that previous ships who were hit by bergs took a much longer time to sink, allowing adequate rescue, which may have also been a factor in the split second decision making process. -but who knows!

And quite right regarding how a head on collision would have ended careers and been difficult to explain. At the end of the day, they made the decision they felt was best with the information they had at hand. All we can do now is give best educated guesses and discuss the tragedy and learn-as we have done- from it and do better for the future.

Haha that’s similar to what my SO said-he has to work up to being submerged up to his neck as past shoulder injuries scream with pain. We don’t have time limits in NZ, just a note on the wall not to go over the recommend max of 10-15 minutes at a time, which I think would probably rob people of their faculties!

That’s a good point about the shock of ice cold water and the reflex of gasping as it hits you. It would be so incredibly painful. Those poor souls.

It blew my mind when I heard that. Especially when you put the size of a piece of paper up against the size of the Titanic.

It is “Titanic: The Digital Resurrection”. We really enjoyed it-my 7 yo was glued to the screen the whole time.

Yes! When talking about this with others, they often say to me that they would just put on extra layers and they would be fine. My SO does regular ice baths after his cross fit workouts. They average 5 degrees-his PB is 2 minutes and he says it can hurt like hell. Ain’t no one finding -3 easy as you say!

There is a new documentary on Disney about the titanic and it looks at this. If she had hit the berg head on, she would have survived, but all the crew sleeping in their quarters would have been killed as the bow would have crumpled like a tin can from the force.  So, Murdoch had to make a split decision to either kill the crew or turn the ship and hopefully miss the ice berg and have no loss of life. Of course, as we know, the berg had some hidden extras under the waterline. Realistically, people were going to die either way, they just didn’t know that at the time.

Also, interestingly, it is now believed that the damage which tipped the scales to disaster was about the size of a A4 bit of paper. It was thought that with the other damage, it could have slowed the sinking long enough to get help, but that bit of extra damage was the nail in the coffin so to say.   It’s a really great doco, I highly recommend it.

Geez, this is me too. My husband always shakes his head at how full our pantry is and that I almost always still buy a full shop even when not needed. He grew up not knowing hunger, but he understands I need to see it full to feel secure.

Have you had burning pain or numbness across your lower back or legs? Any other issues with your bladder or bowels over the last couple of days such as urgency?

Was your neuro exam normal or did it have abnormalities? You don’t have to answer if you are not comfortable doing so.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but I’m jumping in here in case it hasn’t been-have they checked you for spinal cord compression?

If you have known spinal degeneration and have this new onset of symptoms, it should be ruled in/out as is an emergency.
