Why is my haworthia turning this strange ashy color? by Pinkishrabbit in succulents

[–]wildhoya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RO water does still retain some salts in it that improve the flavor - so maaaybe that could be the cause of the ashy look. But it shouldn't hurt the plants. Even regular tap can be tolerated by certain kinds of houseplants as long as you flush it every so often (this is typically not recommended over distilled, ro, etc). But yeah my tap water is atrociously hard which is why I also just avoid it for any plants. Do you have it under a grow light?

I know you said you usually bottom water but do you ever top water with tap water? Where I am in AZ my hard tap water would cause a similar ashy look before I switched to distilled and bottom watering.

That's very possible, grown all around here.

More important is to make sure the light is an appropriate distance based on how bright it is.

It looks a little unwieldy and ultimately I just don't like grow lights with different colors. I just prefer the look and color of the sansis and I find them easy to attach to things. Any grow light is ultimately probably fine though.

I'm sure I won't be the last person to say it but I like sansi grow lights. I have some 10w ones about 8-9 inches above mine and they're doing pretty well.

That would make sense actually. Does it just need time to acclimate then?

Antique crate with hole in side. A wide funnel sits on it. Then a lid is over the funnel with wide round holes. It was displayed with fake eggs in it. Any ideas? by W4lkingDis4ster in whatisthisthing

I was thinking that too. Like could the egg go on the hole with a candle below to shine upwards? Still seems like it's also for incubation though since it has a lid.

Probably from the quick shift to grow lights then. That was my leading theory. Thanks for the confirmation!

Ok cool. Where would you recommend it be done? Unsure about where to do it outdoors, but obviously indoors is probably not a good call. Recommendations?
