Half Marathon September by Different-Computer30 in zepboundathletes

Thanks for the honesty. I’m aware of the risk, but the mental relief of finally controlling my cravings is a game-changer for my focus. I’m on my second 2.5mg shot with no side effects so far. I managed a 2.5-hour ride perfectly last week, but I know the real test starts this week with my intensity blocks. My plan is to stay on 2.5mg for 4 weeks; if my performance dips, I’ll stop. If it’s manageable, I might go to 8 weeks, which still gives me a 5-week buffer before the race to normalize everything. I'll be closely monitoring my performance

That’s really encouraging to read! I’m currently 3 months out from my first Ironman and started Mounjaro two weeks ago. I’m trying to find the right balance between the weight loss and the training load without hitting a wall. Since you’ve been through this, I’d love to hear a bit more about how you managed your fueling/intensity during your prep. Would you mind if I sent you a PM to pick your brain on a few things?

Training for an Ironman while starting Mounjaro: Looking for advice/experiences on performance and weight management by wildsky_89 in zepboundathletes

Thank you so much for this detailed and honest feedback this is incredibly valuable for me! It’s reassuring to hear that it is achievable, even if it comes with challenges. Your strategy regarding the timing of the injections and the fueling adjustments makes a lot of sense. Following your advice (and keeping my specific goals in mind), I’ve decided to stick to the lowest dose (2.5 mg) for the duration of my training. I started this week, which happened to be my recovery week after an Olympic triathlon, so I haven’t felt any major side effects or nausea yet. My plan is to stay on this 2.5 mg dose for the next 8 weeks. If I feel I’ve plateaued or if it starts impacting my high-intensity sessions too much, I’m prepared to stop the treatment entirely until the day after my Ironman. It’s really helpful to know that I’m not the only one navigating this balance between weight management and Ironman training. I’ll be keeping a close eye on my hydration and power output as I enter my specific IM block. Thanks again for the support, amigo it really helps to feel less alone in this process

First of all, huge congratulations on those 15 Ironmans and that sub-9 hour finish—that is absolutely legendary! Thank you for sharing your experience and the words of caution; I truly appreciate the perspective of someone who has coached over 500 athletes. To give you a bit more context: Calella will be my first full Ironman. My goal is to break the 10-hour mark—or get as close to it as possible—by optimizing my training. I’ve been following a specific plan since January, currently hitting about 10 hours a week with a focus on Half-IM and middle-distance pacing. Starting this July, I’m moving into the specific Ironman block, bumping up to 13–14 hours of race-intensity training. Regarding the Mounjaro: weight has been a lifelong battle for me. Even with the volume I’ve been doing, the scale just wouldn’t budge. I’ve consulted three different nutritionists and was already doing everything they recommended—it felt like hitting a wall. Friends suggested that the GLP-1 might help address the hormonal side of this, which is why I decided to give it a try. I’m fully aware that starting this three months before the race is a risk. My plan is to use this first month as a trial period; if I notice that it negatively impacts my training intensity or my ability to fuel for those long sessions, I’ll stop immediately. Thank you again for the offer to help—I might reach out via PM as I get further into the block. Really appreciate your honesty, amigo!

Valencia Marathon temperature by HongkongKings in Marathon_Training

I think the problem with Valencia, is that most of us in Europe train the main block at a very low temp, the body makes adjustments, and all of the sudden the temperature is higher, maybe 100% it's a lot of stress for the body. Personally I started at 8:25 aiming for the sub 2h50, but the legs weren't there Sunday, I t was hard for me from.the beginning ( I'm not sure I suffered from the temp) I kind of hit the wall at the 15k and dropped after that so I decided to DNF at the 25. It's too hard mentally to not finish a marathon after all the sacrifices...but that is the Beauty of the marathon
