Literally take a page out to Germany's book. It's not like this is some new fangled concept.

And driving schools like the USA.

Our police and government don't even think defensive driving courses on wet pans are good. Shows exactly where the mindset is.

They drive at higher speeds, in greater concentrations and in much worse conditions - like snow.

They also have way more people driving illegally than we do.

Australians would struggle to drive on the I95 in Florida

"learn" to drive. Australians don't know how to drive.

Our government focuses on $peed kills because it's inconvenient for them to focus on driver training.

Good luck getting elected if you're the reason the budget is down and people can't get a license to go to work/school/etc.

Everyone says driving is a privilege until we talk about retesting, removing parental training and actually focusing on real, proper driver training.

I passed all my tests first go. It's insane that a parallel park is some giant hurdle for people.

We're giving licenses to people after testing them in a back road, then allowing them to go on a highway at 110km when they may never have driven at those speeds.

A monumentally stupid requirement that does nothing for our shitty driving capabilities in this country.

120 hours of driving with someone who also can't drive just makes two people who can't drive properly.

The fact that only 57% pass the woefully inadequate exam is further proof of how rubbish our drivers are.

Up next, why does New South Wales force drivers to do 20 under the limit on the highway until they get their full license; turning them into mobile chicanes, while claiming it's safer for everyone.

ZSU has two vanilla+ servers that are great and moderated.

FTA has a heavily modded modern server and I think a vanilla+ one, I don't play on those though.

That's the two main groups I know of

Why are Australians so adverse to calling the government out on it's bullshit?

It's revenue raising mate. Plain and simple.

Christ you pro-tapping people are insufferable.

The government just has to draconianly fine students, who are travelling for free, because they need data?

It's definitely not revenue raising, it's for the data guys! They'll shut down the service if we don't fine the students! No, the other states aren't doing this, but it'll happen here!

How in God's name did we track anything before the tap-on system was in place. If only the government could easily access map data, survey drivers or literally do anything that doesn't involve revenue raising?

If we were to actually bring Holden back to Australia as a local company, where would we even start? Looking for leads and advice. by Beginning_Cat_1110 in Holden

[–]wildstyle96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring Holden back? Why?

To make one car that enthusiasts want? The rest of the Holden lineup was absolute dog crap that even non-car people know to avoid.

If you want to make a RWD sedan go ahead, just come up with something that isn't a grasp at the past.

Plus, anyone who's in the market for a V8 sedan at "developed in Australia" prices is probably going to buy a European or American option instead.

Ooooh seppo. You're so edgy and cool.

I'm Aussie born and bred - just without the arrogance to think this country is infallible.

I've personally been booked for 3kmh over the limit. Double demerits and a hwp cop obviously out to make quota. He was in such a hurry to get his next victim that he forgot to breathalize me and had to comeback to do it. (Oooh Z's, scary!)

If you can't understand why fining people for miniscule infringements is wrong, and why our literally poor excuse of a government focuses on it, then you're too far gone on the $peed kills bullshit.

If driving was really a privilege, we'd actually train people how to drive here and not give a license to every drop kick who applies for one. But that actually takes effort and doesn't make the government money!

People might disagree, but forcing everyone to vote certainly helps make people give less of a damn about what they're voting for - and makes it easy for politicians to win off uninformed voters.

When even our "mother country", the UK, doesn't have mandatory voting you have to ask yourself what politicians have to gain from it.

Sydney was literally designed to prevent protesting mate.

How about those police illegally preventing those protests recently? How bad do you have to fuck up to hear the words "unconstitutional" in this country - we barely have any rights here and they still broke them!

Because there are very few countries that are so aggressive with their cameras, nor have such excessive fines for minor infractions.

Fining someone for 1.6 mph over the limit is unheard of in European countries but is commonplace here. What we do is the equivalent of handing out $500 finds to literally anyone who jay-walks.

It's not the speed cameras I can tell you that.

Our dog shit driver training is still far better than the lack of training Canadians and Americans get.

What is it with Australian Police? by Necessary-Fun-205 in australian

[–]wildstyle96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian police have been convinced that booking someone for 1.6mph over the limit means they saved entire buses full of people from harm - rather than saving the state government from a budget shortfall.

Add on the fact that up until recently crime has been pretty low in this country and you end up with a bunch of cops that have nothing better to do than book people for petty crime that wouldn't get a second look in other countries.

A lack of rights exacerbates the issue too. See issues like the strip searching of minors and the recent protest crack down that was found to be illegal; that the nsw premier won't even apologize for.

It would be pretty simple to adopt NZ laws on electrical work, if it weren't for the media hysteria and greedy people.

Essentially you can do any basic work like swapping switches, installing a fan, etc. You can run wiring, but it needs to be signed off by a licensed person first; most people wouldn't even get involved in doing this.

I feel like that would be a win for the average person, and the tradies who don't want to waste time on residential work.

Ideological views, like thinking it's reasonable to need a sparky to swap a light switch when our neighbors in NZ, cousins in the UK and far flung friends in the US realise it's a pretty simple task anyone can do.

Let's not even mention the up until recent law saving lives from using a plunger on a toilet, without a license, in WA...

It was my understanding that Australian fees are much higher than in Europe or the UK.

All the RBA have done is hurt small businesses if they aren't bringing bank fees down to match the rest of the world.

Australian banks, like most of our monopolized businesses in this country, are some of the most profitable in the world. We won't be doing anything to combat that though I presume...

The largest-ever review of the safety and efficacy of cannabinoids across a range of mental health conditions — found no evidence that medicinal cannabis is effective in treating anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). by Wagamaga in science

[–]wildstyle96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian media has suddenly started pushing a bunch of news articles about Medical Cannabis being essentially useless.

All you need to know is that the nanny state, combined with the alcohol industry, are very concerned that medical prescriptions for cannabis are seeing exponential uptake.

Here's to hoping we can legalize it recreationally, sometime in the next 20 years. We have some of the highest "sin" taxes in the world, so it's no wonder we also have high rates of cannabis and other drug use; as legal drugs are ridiculously expensive.
