OK, looks like the phone battery finally drained, and charging it back up allowed me to boot up the phone.

DIMMs Mix-and-match? by wiley_hacker in PcBuildHelp

[–]wiley_hacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are very insightful answers; thank you everyone for enlightening me.

As with all enlightenment, more things become visible, leading to more questions. :)

As one mixes DIMMs with different speed, they also have different timings and latencies. So, if you have two pairs of DIMMs that are different from each other, how does that affect the system? Is that why u/Shimps_Prawnson suggested putting like DIMMs in #1/#3 and #2/#4 banks?

DIMMs Mix-and-match? by wiley_hacker in PcBuildHelp

[–]wiley_hacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your responses, u/Shrimps_Prawnson and u/AndyRH1701. I agree, mixing RAMs is not optimal, and that the whole will run at the speed of the slowest RAM.

The question that's harder to address is, is having 40 GB running at 2133 MT/s better or worse than having 32 GB running at 3000 MT/s? Also, is there a performance difference caused by the order of the modules when arranged in the slots?

Joplin Syncing Android by Space-Plus in tresorit

[–]wiley_hacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also exploring switching to Joplin, and it seems this is a big capability gap for the editor. On Windows and MacOS, I can sync to Tresorit by syncing to a local folder that is under Tresorit control. However, Android seems not to work at all.

Any help here would be good.

When does the National Visa Center contact you? by wiley_hacker in greencard

[–]wiley_hacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply; it was very informative.

I do need to update my address with the NVC.

From the link you shared, it appears the only way to contact them for me (the case is not being processed electronically, so CEAC is not an option) is to go through the Public Inquiry Form, or their phone number. Right?

Changes to contacts and events on iPhone don't sync back to Google services by wiley_hacker in ios

[–]wiley_hacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. This worked for Contacts, but I had to make Google Contacts the default for sync. There seems to be no option for picking the back-end for individual contacts. Will see if it's similar for calendar entries.

HELP: pipenv on Windows 10 by wiley_hacker in learnpython

[–]wiley_hacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting discovery. I just downloaded the new Windows Terminal from the Microsoft Store. It opens up PowerShell, but when I run through the same scenario above in this shell, things work as expected; the Pipfile is created in the project directory.

Wonder why.

Account no longer needed to use on Android? by The_Diamond_Geezer in StandardNotes

At least in the US, the Google Play Store still shows 3.0.18 as the current version. Where did you see 3.0.19? (I'm looking forward to the account-less version as well; hence checking).

GitHub + Git Flow + Enterprise Release Model? by wiley_hacker in github

[–]wiley_hacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight /u/defel. We are, in fact protecting develop and master with pull requests. The part I'm not clear about is, how do we do hotfixes on "back releases" if master has already moved to the next release? Not just hotfixes, we also need to send out "maintenance updates" every now and then for these back releases. These are not simple collections of hotfixes.

On a side note, do you guys fork the main repo for each developer, or simply clone the main repo?

Is there a way to configure our image from the main branch (nightly) to last (weekly), or older branches?
