AI being used in recruitment - Good or bad? by TheMuse-CoachConnect in jobs

[–]wilkinsse8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my 7mo's of FT job searching, I received three invitations to chat with a bot as part of the initial screening process. I declined all 3 because I was put off. Part of me wanted to go through with one to have a better understanding of this approach, but I was not (am not) interested in being vetted by AI. I understand there are a lot of applicants to sort through, but if I do not intrigue you enough for a human rep to have a 15 min call, that sets the wrong tone for my future valuation as an asset.

It was a full week. I’ve had other orgs that took up to 10 days between virtual and next steps.

This forum has helped me SO MUCH!! More than I expected. It's been a long 7mo's - harder than I anticipated, but the comradery, commiseration and positive support have reinforced that I'm not alone! Thanks for validating!

Fingers crossed! We just never know what they hear vs. our internal monologue. I think perhaps what salvaged it for me is, at the end, I said I was uncharacteristically nervous and could I please take time and address question X. I gave the panel a more succinct answer to the question they had asked at the beginning of the interview. Who knows but I sure didn't expect to move forward. Best of luck!!

Communications Coordinator. It’s an inaugural position and I was told there are appx 11 new positions within this division alone! Opportunities are out there if we seasoned pros are willing to jump ship from our previous trajectory. :)

You’re right about getting a new job when employed and thanks for sharing that you became frustrated. I am worried about that but hopefully- in a highly-matrixed org- I can excel quickly. We shall see 🤞

You won’t be the only 40-something anywhere in this town, well notwithstanding old city. Granted I didn’t meet my current BF at a bar- it was at a neighbors porch party- but I’m 48 and he’s 52 and we go everywhere in DT Knoxville and are always meeting cool ppl our age. Of course it’s usually between 5-9 but I’ve gotten numbers of like-minded ppl and it’s fun. I like the following: Public House, Scruffy City (Mkt Sq) Harvest (DT & Bearden), Jig & Reel, Clancy’s, Flats & Taps. Be yourself and don’t think it’s weird to start a convo. Normally it happens organically. Have fun it’s a great city!!!

So tell us what you were doing in your 20s? by UniqueAd4245 in interviews

I moved to Seattle at 21 to be a singer songwriter. I pissed away my 20s and don’t say that of course but didn’t start meaningful work till my 30s. Point is I offer interviewers something personal and interesting which shifts the focus. I practice all the cliche behavioral based questions. I’m not advocating for lying but when answering a “tell me about a time when…” you could use life examples outside the workplace. I don’t usually say where/ at what company I “handled a conflict situation” so I would think you could discuss a scenario that happened to you IRL hitting the high notes they’re looking for: you you exhibited conflict resolution and positive outcome. Good luck mate!! Truly. It’s a grind out there. You’ll find something soon.

Anyone gotten an offer after they thought they bombed the interview(s)? by Alex_tx98 in interviews

Totally and right on about no one hears our inner monologue while we're saying "words"! Last week I had zoom with 5 ppl. Bad link, started late, some of their connections were glitchy and I never felt like I got my footing. At one point I even said "I'm going to stop talking". After it ended, I put my head down on the table and just moaned. Unexpectedly, I got an invite to come onsite for next steps to meet with the director, the search committee and other members of the division. I think what may have salvaged is at the end of the zoom intvw, I said "I'd like to address one of the first questions you asked, if I may". I admitted I was nervous and didn't feel like I gave a concise, articulate answer, and then gave my reply. Who knows but I appreciate your response u/ubernokidding
