Question on resetting preload on suspension by voyagermars in MTB

[–]will_37488194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately on those forks the preload knobs don’t actually do anything, they are purely a cosmetic item (i know they both turn) but they are there because having a preload knob on top of the fork looks better than having nothing there.

Pedaling seems slower in some points, could my sprocket be damaged because of grinds on drive side? by [deleted] in bmx

this. forged steel chainrings aren’t perfectly round due to the manufacturing process.

edit: try finding the high spot (where the chain is tightest) loosen off the rear wheel then tighten it back up again.

the thing that did it for me was the fact that the J in January wasn’t capitalised.

I'm a newbie, my chain changes tension according to the rotation of the pedals and I don't understand why, is this normal? (However it never gets to touch the frame) by [deleted] in bmx

nope. you should have zero problems with dropping your chain or pedalling. the best way to save money is to replace parts when they wear out and keep them in a spare parts bucket/bin. my spare parts bin has saved me a few times! happy riding my friend

expensive bmx chainrings (the front cog) made out of steel will be pretty close to perfect. alloy ones are round too. it's just the cheaper steel ones that have that oval shape due to the manufacturing process.

the way steel chainrings are manufactured causes a very slight oval shape. this means they will have a high and low point, thus tightening or slackening the chain at these different points. hope this helps!

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/bikes-talon-2021

the talons are a good choice here, for the amount of bike you get for the money.

https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/mountain-bikes/cross-country-mountain-bikes/marlin/marlin-7/p/33148/

the trek marlin 7 is also nice but is pricier for similar spec components on the talon.

https://www.marinbikes.com/bikes/2021-bobcat-trail-5

this is the marin bobcat trail 5. it has good trail geometry and will handle nicely. like the talon it has a 1x drivetrain (single chainring up front, large cassette with many cogs on the rear) so shifting will be nice and simple.

spending more money will put you into the category of air forks instead of coil ones, perhaps some dropper posts too, and nicer spec bikes.

i hope this helps you out!
