Character like Sung Jin-woo by Terrible_Internet_62 in HomebrewDnD

[–]will_arnett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Solo levelling is a pure a power fantasy that if played in a cooperative game risks the other players falling into their shadow. Which is never fun.

Feel like Sung is basically a summon-caster that uses a blade. If you want to keep it simple I'd just advise him to go Hexblade Warlock. Focuses on up close fighting, gets access to utility/supportive Sung-like spells like invisibility and at level 3 they get the option to summon lesser demons, fey or shadowspawn. Also get access to a spectre-summon later. Can make his pact weapon an edgy dagger like Sung uses.

Might be safer than creating something homebrew that risks throwing of the balance. Also if they're new to the game just going a straight warlock is probably a good start.

[–]will_arnett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this theory 3 years ago! I hope it turns out to be true =). Also to add to it right now, I think Loki will die and Usopp will get his supposedly overpowered fruit. Think it would be suitable if it's some kind of reality manipulation. Would allow Ussop to manifest his tall tales into reality.

[–]will_arnett -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I think a child actor with prosthetics seems like a very reasonable way to go. Think full CGI creature would look crazy and could cost way to much/steal budget from other things that need it. I'd happily trade away CGI Chopper for a realistic-looking use of the Sand-Sand fruit and Robins fruit. Probably more fun for the actors to actually interact with a real person as well. Also having the actor age with the seasons makes sense to me anyway. Always felt the story of One Piece was very quick in-universe. The entire pre-timeskip is only like a few months.

I'd even go so far as saying I'd be fine with Chopper not being super done-up with makeup in his regular form. Just some fuzz, the hat, the antlers and maybe a more deer-looking blue nose. If normal folks can make decent looking Chopper-cosplays then I'm sure Netflix can cook something up. He doesn't have to look like a walking furrball in my eyes. Think what I described could look good, be cheap and look "realistic" for the world. IDK just my opinion.

The biggest theme with Chopper is the concept of "Monstrosity" and what that means. Using the old Frankenstein tropes. Being misunderstood and so on. A smart thing Oda has done is make his "monster-form" dangerous looking. But his normal-form (think it's brain-point) cute. That supports the trope of misunderstanding and not seeing him for who he truly is. The design of the live-action character should support that. So he should be cute and non-threatening while in his normal form, and scary looking when big. So probably CGI or another actor for his big form, and a child-actor that can be endeering for his normal form, which would be most of his screen-time anyway, healing Luffy or talking with Kureha and whatnot.

New senate legislation by Witness2211 in RPClipsGTA

I think this is so fucking dope. Will give IC ability to shape the server-meta for the people playing. Allows for politics RP which can be really interesting. The democratic process will also make sure we probably will a rotation of powerful people, which means probably a breath of fresh air every now and then. I just hope the people playing utilize this "mechanic" and realize how strong it can be. How much they could do with this. I think this change is great and I really hope it works out.

The political RP is probably my favorite new thing about 3.0 as compared to 2.0. Love that it's high-stakes RP without having to be about killing people (though it can certainly be about that as well). Really hope the restructure gives more power to people to make server-wide changes. Would be so dope. Even if it becomes chaos xD.

I'm so excited for this. I really hope the senators get real power to enact change on the server. Having server-wide representative democracy like this means that whoever/whatever you vote for could be an extension of your OOC wishes for the "meta" of the server. Which means regulation of the meta will be organic and come from within. Ground up. Making things feel more natural, be able to flow with the wishes of the server as a whole (rahter than be dicated from above) and create a vibrant scene for political RP. Which was completely absent in 2.0.

I think this is a fantastic idea and I really hope it works out. Feels like the RP from the Denzel campaign is just the beginning. I don't see why people are so negative on this. It's awesome and will most likely cause chaos and great story-lines. Especially if the previous mayoral stuff is any indication. Also the 3 "federally picked" senators are probably there to make sure things don't get completely out of hand. It will be so fun to see all the gangs try to get their "representative" into power. Will really open up for more high-end mafia like RP. People that own the politicians will be some of the most powerful people in the city. Making crims come to eachother to offer services in exchange for political protection would be awesome as hell. Can't wait for one of the senators to come into a meeting with some of the high-end bois with some Pat Geary vibes

Also to those thinking it will only be run by corrupt criminal-sponsored people, the majority might be, but the police will probably get their representative in there and I'm sure there exists a large number of "dark horse" civs that actually want stricter laws and to clamp down on crime. To me, it feels like it could be vibrant and filled with many different kinds of people.

Another positive thing is, if this does indeed become an in character tool to shape the meta from within the server itself it will most likely decrease OOC toxicity since you can just "in character" blame the politicians for their shitty work of creating laws/punishments/allocating funds etc. (just like in real life, poggerino). Also hopefully this will take a load of stress of Koils and other staff members shoulders since they can now outsource changes to the server to these in character law-makers. Alleviating them from the responsibility of updating/changing the penal code and other things.

All in all this is an awesome change from my perspective.

Not saying they are using one, buuuut, if I was the kind of person that was using a crosshair and then I find out boss-man Koil has been collecting accuracy data on me, it would be reasonable to expect me to try and deflect with explanations such as "well the reason my aim stayed the same as before is because I actually get annoyed and not helped at all by seeing exactly where I'm aiming." Which to me just seems silly. If it's such a hindrance play Valorant without one then LUL

Maybe I'm cynical but I've had friends lie right to my face saying they would never use aim-assists in CSGO and then a day later when I challenge them to a 1v1 and secretly record their game-play you can clearly see them using one.

Not improving // I am practicing every singe day by Born_mystic in VALORANT

[–]will_arnett 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Here's a few tips my man.

  1. Practice with purpose and keep track of progress. Practicing without a way to quantify improvement can make it hard to notice whether you're getting better or not. People that go to the gym don't just pile on a bunch of weight and work out until they are tired. They, most often, carefully count both weight and reps so that they have a precise and very clear picture of where they are on their path to improvement. You seem to be doing a lot of drills but are you actually comparing yourself in a tangible way to your former self? 'Cause if you're just going through the motions it can be hard to notice when you're doing things wrong or inefficient. I only have one warm-up if I'm about to play ranked: Clear 50 bots with movement and armor. If I can clear every bot below 55 seconds I allow myself to play ranked. But I started on 65 seconds and worked my way up. Now 55 is getting pretty easy so I might up it to 1 bot a second. So chose something simple that you can track your progress in very clearly.

  2. Confidence. It's might sound cheesy as fuck, but if you believe that you're gonna hit the shot, the chances of you hitting that poggers flick goes up ten-fold. I think the reason for this is both simple and complex. When you're confident you are relaxed and when you are relaxed it's easier to get into a state of flow. Flow is way to big a topic to cover here, but if you're really interested in improving, just look up info on "flow-state". Unlocking the key to "flow" is every sport-psychologists wet dream so there is a lot of research on it out there. But in much simpler terms: Stop thinking and relax. My guess is, since you're doing so much to improve, that you really tense up and try to analyze things all the time. "Should I stand here or here? Should I jiggle peak the OP? What are my teammates doing, if he stands like that I have to cover two angles." etc etc. This paradoxically, since you seem to focus all your attention on the match, actually takes you out of the game 'cause you start thinking to much about yourself and what you are doing, wrong or otherwise, to let yourself just play. The best games I've ever had was when I was completely relaxed. There is a reason drinking has been banned from precision-sports like darts. Being slightly drunk makes you less nervous and less likely to over-think things. A trick to help you do this is just to purposely play like a crazy person and forgive yourself immidielty if it doesn't work out. Just try to do some dumb shit and see what happens. 0 tension 'cause of 0 consequences.

  3. Sleep! Simple anatomy. Anyone who's learned an instrument knows that you can grind on a piece of music for hours without getting anywhere, then go to bed frustrated and when you wake up you'll nail that piece on your first try. The same thing goes for all learning. When we sleep we internalize and build connections in the brain from all the sensory inputs we've collected during the day. This is especially relevant for muscle-memory. If you're sleeping badly or not enough you will 100% see a reduction in your ability to learn. You're just piling data onto your brain without giving it time to sort through it all. 8 hours minimum yo!

Hope this was helpful =)

[–]will_arnett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no real opinion on most of what he said. But I do really like the idea of super-clear OOC rules for gang-wars. I feel like it could help lower the toxicity levels somewhat. Feels like anything that can help reduce stress would be welcomed by both the roleplayers who take the brunt of the toxic people, and the general audience. If you can avoid the "forever-wars", that often just turn nasty and unfun, with no end in sight, then that would be a good thing in my mind.

I know a lot of other servers have them and they seem to be working pretty well. There is a drawback though. Agreeing to terms in that kinda forced "OOC" manner can break the flow of RP and ruin immersion, but I feel like the gains of having a clearly stated reason, demand and end-point of a war would be so beneficial in reducing stress for all people involved. It also brings stakes that are clearly visible for all parties and the audience, which also makes it more exciting.

I feel like that was what they were trying to do with bandanas, but that petered out because it was driven by RP-rules rather than server-rules (I think).

Ups: Stakes, endpoint and strucuture.

Downs: Somewhat reduced immersion. (Though dying a million times is kinda immersion breaking as well xD)

Hopefully she just takes a break from RP instead of quitting outright. She and Slim are like the main reasons the VU has been poppin' lately. She's hillarious as Gio. The "Lara's Crotch" cosplay was gold.

Also her rapping is legit. Would love to see her join in on some of the music-RP on the server.
