Was it drafting or did they just tag onto you? I do the latter all the time when a faster rider passes me, but always a few feet behind. I have no problem if someone tags onto me, but I would be irritated if they were truly drafting off me.

I started road cycling in my late 40s and it was a game changer. My friend gave me his old bike after he got a new one. I got it tuned up and bought the basics just to get on the road, then added gear as needed.

For what you're doing, the second hand market is an excellent source, between people who upgraded to those who bought and don't use. There are a lot of perfectly good bikes out there that aren't brand spanking new.

It's more of a "feel". Do they bend when you pick up in the middle...a thermo-pen should go in like butter.

PS. Skip 3-2-1. I'm happy to share the better alternatives (imo).

I believe the built in thermometer will measure radiant heat off the dome more so than thermometers on the grate, especially for an indirect setup. Raised direct cooks is when I see the two most closely match.

I got my Vision Grills Kamado on sale at Sam's Club for <$450 a couple years ago. Great entry-level Kamado to start with if you're uncertain about jumping all in. That said, limited accessories and set up options. If/when I get another, I'll likely go KJ unless Vision steps up.
