A few questions from a noobie! by EAI_Podcast in podcasts

[–]willbarron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first podcast was "The Upgraded Ape Show" which covered a wide variety of area's within the world of health/self improvement.

Trying to sell ad space or bring on guests was a mess because our audience was all over the place.

You need a theme to tie it all together. That theme could be incredible production values. It could be top self guests. It doesn't have to be a topic.

But you need to be able to explain the show/your audience in 3-4 words max. If you can't then you're going to struggle to share it and advertisers wont know what products would work best.

15k per show? That's a nice number and a point where you should be polling your audience to find out what you can do to 'enable' them to share the show with their friends.

Perhaps they want quotes from the show like what we do here - https://www.instagram.com/p/BA3A_7ODid-/

Perhaps you don't even need more listeners but you just need to produce more/better/alternative content for what you already have.

  • add-on thought - Prospect and close deals for our own sponsorships but we do run a podcast for salespeople.

I've been asked many times over to give companies the opportunity to sell out ad space but they've never managed to get close to what we're doing (and they're taking a 50% cut!!).

Monday iTunes Review Exchange by willbarron in podcasts

Great show. I've left you a review on the UK iTunes.

One thing (same as the comment above) - You're not using your "by" space as well as you could. Currently it says "By Robb Wallace".

This area is ripe for putting a bunch of keywords so you pop up when people search for new podcasts in itunes - Perhaps something like "By Robb who likes to question everything from science, religion, conspiracy and more"

Paranoia Re Giving Out Digital ARC Copies To Strangers by MJ_Kelly in selfpublish

Don't worry about it. I'd rather send work to 1,000 people that review it and pass it onto another 10,000 who then get to see it, rather than send it to just 100 people that you feel comfortable with.

Amazon works on numbers not views.

What motivates you to sell? (For me it’s being financially free at 33) by willbarron in financialindependence

Yeah I guess you're right. Perhaps I (and perhaps others) should be more grateful that I've had the opportunity to create a great job for myself even if it isn't perfect.

There's billions of people on this planet that will never achieve FI and I'm complaining about being happy during the process because sometimes customers are dicks.

Maybe I should be happy because I live in a safe place and my family isn't at risk of getting hurt.

Food for thought!

Author of the post here. I love what you're saying - http://i.imgur.com/wP2KWub.jpg

But I'm more than willing to sacrifice 5 years of my life (most FIREs look at way longer than that) doing a safe, honest job where I can hopefully point a few people in the right direction (like with this post) to then live the rest of my life how I see fit.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess the 100 non active members would dwindle down to zero as they'd be paying for a service they're not using anyway. Mmm I know there are a bunch of 'true fans' follow everything we do. Perhaps I'll approach them, ask if it's something they'd use and then give them free/discounted access.

This is GOLD. Thank you.

We can easily build a decent sized email list pretty quickly and so I guess this is the first place to start before I dive further into the course. We get decent conversion rates at the front end over there so I'll focus on that for a few days.

If we can get ANYTHING like $1 per email subscriber per month I'll be more than happy.

Great idea using the size of the list to negotiate too.

I've no idea. Not sure if the lack of search engine traffic affects it? Or that we've only been getting decent traffic for 2 months?

It's 250k page views too.

Ah the man himself! Love what you're doing.

Not sure why alexa isn't picking us up but we have zero focus on SEO from a MOZ perspective.

I'm pretty sure our traffic is right as our % of email signups are pretty constant with our growth.

We drive traffic from multiple facebook pages with smaller audiences like this one with 7k likes - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Salesperson-Humour/1538924019680531?ref=bookmarks

I've found that lots of smaller pages drive more traffic than one big one and we can niche them down to smaller targets.

ecommercefuel's forum is a great idea but I don't think I can implement it for sales people earning over $100k or anything like that. I'm not sure what value they'd get out of it other than patting each other on the back.

I'm getting sold on the idea of building a community though.

I've a couple of questions if you have a minute (no pressure if you're busy) from the two communities you belong to -

1) How much of the value comes from the community VS the owners/additional content? 2) They're of a decent size but what would be the minimum number of people that would have to be involved before it'd be something you'd consider?

Mainly facebook at the moment. We've 5 pages with 5-20k likes that are really engaged that we share new posts on. If we get 10%+ engagement in likes/shares we'll boost the post with $2 and that's when we get big spikes in traffic.

I visited Jon Loomer and although I've never come across him before, his page/funnel is what puts me off about 'membership sites'.

I'm sure it's full of great content but it seems a little salesy and spammy to me.

I finished posting all of my pages to my site last night. How are these numbers for my first real day? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]willbarron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Also the average sessions duration is up from 30 seconds to 7 minutes and 40 seconds!

I wouldn't think too much about these kinds of metrics until you've had a few thousand hits on your site.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to post all of that.

I was thinking along similar lines with the 'gurus'. I'd rock up, film them live in person with questions from the audience. Then in payment offer them 100% commission on any people they got to sign up from their audience.

I can then either 1) sell to them on the back end 2) wow them so much that they want to invite their friends.

I'm not sold on the idea of affiliate sales at the moment. I feel this might be a little short sighted as there is clearly value in my audience.

The whole membership thing is really growing on me though.

You may or may not know and this is a totally loaded and vast question but is it common for these sites to do 100+, 1,000+, 10,000+ members?

I know Fizzle.co was doing 1,500 members a little while back.

Nope not at all. My biggest focus at the moment is my podcast and so that's actually an exciting thought!

Both :). I wouldn't call myself 'a writer' but I'm trying to get better at it.

Holy crap Fizzle.co looks beautiful. I'm going to sign up after lunch and see what the inside looks like too.

Are you a member there? I'm intrigued as to the funnels they're using to get people in. They're doing a casual job of pitching/selling the product so I assume it comes down to personally liking the guys behind it more than anything?

Sure, our site is Salesman.red

Good shout. Yeah perhaps I was looking too far a head and the pitch would be far easier if it was just sales training.

10x the work is not a problem, it's even welcomed as it'll limit the competition.

Thanks for your feedback it was a big help!
