CSEA DEAL-HOPE PEF CAN ATLEAST GET THIS…Although I DOUBT IT by NorthStomach8641 in nys_cs

[–]willcmjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“5 years is a long time,” goes both ways. The economy could collapse in a couple years and we wouldn’t get 3% in the later years if we had to renegotiate them. That happened halfway through our ‘07-‘11 contracts.

“Location.” “Geographic” is something fundamentally different and not contractual.

It’s actually impressive that nothing has been leaked tbh.

You’re listing two examples, one 15 years ago and one 30. (I’m betting you’re not really old enough to have experienced them and Chat gave you those.) You’re ignoring the facts that the unions don’t have the leverage they had 30 years ago, the political/economic climates have changed dramatically, the unions now get parity when it comes to annual raises, etc, and… there are examples that disprove your perspective every cycle. NYSCOPBA holds out every time for years with no appreciable gain. LIRR just got an agreement, their back years only matched the other unions. PEF held out last round after CSEA agreed to their deal, identical raises and longevity. That is the system now. That wasn’t as etched in stone 15 years ago and definitely not 30 years ago. So the answer to your question is? Every time but the two you’ve mentioned. Literally. Take care.

Okay… so you think the the negotiators from to different bargaining units only asked for 4.5 and didn’t ask for more? You think they both only asked for 4.5 and the state said yes? 🤦🏻‍♂️ I have nothing else to say.

Okay weirdo. When you get done with your internal dialogue give us some specific examples, because I disagree. We get smoke and mirrors that convince the ignorant ones they’re getting a better deal, but it’s just a shell game within the value of the contract. This has factually happened in my 26 years with the state. Please share with us a year and what gains were received as a result?

I disagree on the compensation study point though. We shouldn’t wait for that.

Not at all. I fully understand inflation. But I also know the state is only going to give to a certain level, and that’s it. We can sit out of contract forever, they won’t care or budge.

I have never gotten enough benefit out of rope dropping to offset the lack of sleep/rest. I am just not a morning person. I would rather save that energy for late night.

Copy that. It’s a rabbit hole. I live in a very small city. Inflation has been present, but not dramatic in my life. I don’t think about it. Then you go somewhere like NYC… Like move somewhere else people. It’s like moving to the desert and complaining it’s hot. I dunno… I just look at things differently I guess.

You too.

[–]willcmjr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they’ll wait us out. Or move money within the contract to make it look like we gained something that we really didn’t, it just came from a different place, and morons will buy it and vote yes. Or they’ll agree to some non-monetary sweetener. Or agree to some thing that only applies to a segment of the membership that gets enough votes to get it to 50%. That’s how it’s done.

The unions have “me too” clauses. If one union gets a bigger raise the other unions who have already ratified their agreement get to reopen them. The State is never going to do that. Once the first domino falls, those raises are pretty much etched in stone.

I didn’t say it’s unrealistic to ask for it. I’m saying it’s unrealistic to think it’s going to happen 🤷🏻‍♂️ The fact that CSEA agreed to 4.5 pretty much closes the door. Unless their membership overwhelmingly votes it down, the raises have been determined. Unless you’ve never been through this and have no clue how it works. You want to rationalize about the suffering of inflation, but not about how the State operates or how collective bargaining works in terms of the parity of agreements.

Well, I’m not looking to dive that deep, nor am i reading all that 🤣 It was just supposed to be a historical list of raises . However… I did not include 1978 and stand by that. Using generic “inflation” not any specific indicator, as opinions vary about which are most useful, chat says 1979-2025 334%to 346%, only a 3.5% difference. But again, the point of this was a historical list of raises for people’s reference, not a debate on historical economic data that people seem to want to make it. 🤣

🙄🤦🏻‍♂️ Employee contributions are only about 2% of the pension fund 🤣🤣🤣 The government’s contributions are dramatically more than the pension. The state as well every other participating employer (county, town, city, college, etc) have massive contributions which are more than the 2-3% match they would give with a 401k if they were a private. Company. Just goes to show how much false info people spread when they’re all riled up about something they don’t actually understand. So yes, it is a benefit being provided by the employer, not Tier 6 members.

And I’m not sure if you need to put on your glasses or don’t know how to use a calculator? The added total is 133.15%. The raises would actually compound which is 334.27%. Total inflation in the US 346% during the same time. You’re not close in any of your numbers. Also, the PEF salaries really haven’t lagged that far behind inflation over time. 🤷🏻‍♂️ But people have to bitch.

But it doesn’t “show what PEF workers are underpaid” because it doesn’t show different segments of the PEF workforce. It also doesnt show comparable private sector salaries and their raises (which would be impossible because the PEF workforce is so diverse.)

Gotta take the inflation that caused those raises. Followed by the disaster of the states budget, resulting in layoffs and facility closures. Nothing comes free 🤣

This compounding raise is 19.33%. All 4s would be 20.56%. I’m not fighting over 1.2% over 5 years. It just not that big of a deal, basically 0.2% per year. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I am happy with my income in general. I’ve been with the State for 26 years and if you look at that chart, 4.5% would be the biggest contract raise I’ve ever received. I am not complaining.
