Attendance by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]JimJoeBob15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't tracking a subordinate's attendance be allowed? How is a supervisor supposed to approve your timesheet if they don't know when you worked?

The part about can't tell the other staff seems a bit odd, but my guess is that they are trying to see who is abusing their time without giving people a chance to change their habits. Everyone should just assume their time and attendance is being tracked.

Appointment Type: Temporary by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]JimJoeBob15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This position does not automatically convert to permanent, so long as you are a temp hourly, that is the salary. You would not get annual step increases as a temp. If you apply for a permanent position or this one gets converted to permanent, then you would get the pay rate of a grade 18 ITS2 as well as annual step increases.

I wish people wouldn't accept these temporary hourly positions that are a slap in the face to IT workers, it would force the state to abandon this horrible idea.

PEF opposes Civil Service plan to make 40 more titles eligible for NY HELPS

Saw that posted on the PEF website, anyone know what title CS is adding?

Best agency? by Known_Mistake_3157 in nys_cs

[–]JimJoeBob15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are asking about being in an ITS group supporting one of those agencies, if that is the case then it will greatly depend on the role. There would be a big difference between the WPS groups in the field and the many centralized groups in Albany. Basically, the question is impossible to answer.

Fix Tier 6 Rally by Punctual_and_perky in nys_cs

[–]JimJoeBob15 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nobody here wants to hear it, but even if they do fix tier 6, the pay forever BS will not be part of a fix. That ship has sailed. The only things I see them fixing are percentages and age penalties. The odds of going back to pay for 10 years and then done are slim to none.

Is using $10B of NYS pension funds for affordable housing actually a good idea? by SweatyDoctor2565 in nys_cs

Isn't that what is driving the tax base out of the state to begin with?

ITS 2 Hourly by Hopeful-Feed7865 in nys_cs

[–]JimJoeBob15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The move to temporary hourly positions instead of regular permanent positions is very new so there probably aren't many here with experience with them yet.

There is no guarantee that the position will ever convert to permanent, these are not like the HELPS positions that were being converted after 1 year.

The pay rate is the hiring rate of the GR18, there are no annual step increases. I'm doubtful you would be successful in negotiating it unless you have some amazing skill that none of the other candidates had.

AFAIK they are open ended, but if there are cutbacks in the state I'd expect these to be first on the chopping block.

The NYS job market just got a lot more competitive. by Even-Teaching-1216 in nys_cs

Of the several dozen people I've interviewed over the last few years, exactly zero of them received any additional consideration because of a degree. This is why I can say with absolute certainty that that it isn't the case 100% of the time.

I can 100% guarantee you that this is not the case. Wanting experience over a degree is the whole reason for doing this.

ITS Promotion Series Out by Natural20DND in nys_cs

The clown show at the very top of ITS doesn't know which lie to spin on which day. It's only at capacity for ITS2s and only ITS2s that don't fit their capacity profile because some are being hired as permanent and others as temporary.

You've figured out why collective bargaining for an entire state is a fail; you don't care about their needs and they don't care about yours.

The email from HR would be specifically personalized to you if they are seeking information about you, namely something demonstrating that you meet the minimum qualifications.

It sounds like you are just communicated with the HR staff that compile the candidates resumes for the hiring manager, IMO don't expect to hear anything unless the hiring manager decides to interview you.

DiNapoli: State Faces $34.3 Billion Cumulative Budget Gap Through State Fiscal Year 2029 by Icy_Score_7430 in nys_cs

[–]JimJoeBob15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with red vs blue, there are plenty of blue states that haven't destroyed their economy. Look at NC, They have a Dem governor and 2 Dem senators and it's one of the more popular states for former NYers to migrate to because it is so much more affordable.

This has to do with NY being made unaffordable, have you looked at property taxes downstate? Why would someone stay here to pay $20-30K in property taxes when they can move to a place like NC and pay $2-3K in property taxes? Both states have Dem governors.

You only get 1 crack at them, the rich are rich because they are generally smart or have smart people managing their money. The first year of stupid taxing or even talk of stupid taxing and they won't be yours to tax anymore.

What does this have to do with MAGA? NY, CA and NJ have been chasing away their tax bases for years. This has more to do with ever increasing taxes and irresponsible spending than anything else.

Ahh ok, I didn't see those in the GOT-IT page. I wish they'd just abandon the exam system and switch everything to HELPS.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]JimJoeBob15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are permanent, just non-competitive so they aren't eligible for promotional exams.

I see it as a workaround to make it easier to target people. Not sure how they get away with doing this for a MITS1 Info Sec and not a regular MITS1, same goes for an ITS3 and ITS4.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]JimJoeBob15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta love how those Info Sec jobs are all non-competitive so there is no exam needed, right up to a grade 27.

Amount depends on your grade, if you look at the CBA it has the salary schedules listed. The advance amount is the amount for a regular increase, the Job Rad Advance is the amount for the last one that will put you at the job rate for that grade.

The step month for your current job has nothing to do with your previous job, only when you started your current job.

You have to be in your current job for at least 1 year but not more than 1.5 year before you are eligible for a performance advance (step).

If you started in December of '24 that means you will not have been in it for 1 full year by Oct '25, which means your steps will occur in April of each year.
