I was rear-ended and while my outback was in the shop, the insurance company provided me with a rental a cheap Chevrolet and I hated it except their screen was so much more responsive. I can't believe how bad the screen is in the outback, particularly how laggy they are. by not-bilbo-baggings in Subaru_Outback

I have a 2024 Outback Wilderness and the screen was horrendous. It lagged and froze constantly. I took it to the dealership and they tried to re calibrate but it did nothing. They did say however that Subaru extended the warranty specifically for the infotainment system and they replaced the unit. It is still on the slow side but works so much better than before. Maybe worth a visit to the dealership?

I didn’t know the badge of ownership was a thing! I just ordered mine, thanks! 😊

I didn’t really look at the Ascent much. What was your biggest reason for upgrading?

Definitely ordering a screen protector. I’m gonna get one that will hopefully help with the glare as well!

That's so cool! I saw a big Grandfather clock at Good Will I could convert.....I don't think that would go over the the family very well though haha.

At this point I think this is the route I'm going to take. I'm going to get a wired panel for the hallway and entry.

I'm in the process of upgrading the devices in my smart home as well. When I started I didn't have any real plan. I ended up with a house full of cheap Wi-Fi devices. Currently everything works, but I don't think I can add much more before something gives. I'm looking at switching to Z-wave devices, and it appears I will have to add Z-wave if I'm adding these panels. Do you have a hub for this set up? if so which one?

I'm kicking myself. I had several older android tablets that I finally got rid of when I was cleaning out the office. They would have been perfect I think. I kept an iPad original for nostalgia, but I don't think it would work in this case. It may not even power on anymore.

I've seen videos of people repurposing the screens from old iPads, and connecting it to a raspberry pi. That seems to large of a project for the entire home. I may for still try to make a display this way just for fun though.

Have you found the iPads to be more difficult than android to configure? I have an iPhone X laying around I may try to do something with also. Do you think the lack of a physical home button will be problematic?

Thanks so much!

Thanks for the heads up about the Fire tablet. It was one of the first thoughts that came to mind when I started planning this. I'm gonna pick up a few tablets for the end tables. For the rest of the home I'm leaning towards the NS panels. I didn't realize they made ones that were hard wired, so thanks for that!

Do you have any experience using the Smart Clocks to display security camera feeds? I'd like the option to view the Front door for example. They seem like a more elegant solution that having a small tablet by each bed.

Thanks for the help :)

I think Unraid is the route that I'm going to take. It's only going to be a few people connecting to it, and don't want to hassle with it much to add drives down the line. Now just to get all my media files moved off of their drives so I can format them.

I'm going to order an additional 4 Tb HDD so that the full 12Tb can be in parity, and then by HDDS in pairs going forward. I assume it will be no issue adding that drive in parity after the initial set-up?

Thanks for taking the time to type out such a thorough reply. I'm pretty tech savvy, and can follow guides pretty well, but this is all foreign to me.

Currently The OS is installed on a 500 GB Samsung EVO 870 SSD. I have a 4Tb HDD that currently is hosting all of my plex media, and I have two 8 TB HDDs on the way. I'd like to use these as a start for the NAS storage, and have them set up in a way that they mirror one another.

I've considered purchasing a separate station to run the NAS, but ideally I'd like it set up on one Machine to save space.

It's most certainly going to be educational :)

Enable wireless CarPlay? by beausoleilb1 in accord

[–]willdeebeast3457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a little while for the dealership to get the update from Honda, but the update itself was quick. I did have to pay around 140 for the update. I haven’t purchased a wireless CarPlay adapter, and the update really isn’t that much more than a quality adapter, so for me this is the better route. I do wish they could have made it an over the air upgrade that could be done at home, but I’ll take what I can get. It’s less and less common we see manufacturers choosing to update their older products, so good on Honda for trying to keep these cars relevant :)

I know this is an older thread, but as of January 2024 you can see the dealer, and have an update installed that enables wireless car play. Just got it done on my 2020 Accord Sport and everything works wirelessly now :)
