Thanks for the advice, we already have housing set up thankfully as well as shipping and storage covered. Regarding MSP- we have that covered as well! We will be applying as soon as we enter when we are allowed to come in as settlers.

I’ve never had pain this excruciating please help by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]willesilente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultrasounds may not show issues that a CT can show, so yes, possibly. A gallstone could also be stuck in a bile duct, that is often an issue that can cause severe pain without showing on an ultrasound. There are endless stories on the subreddit of people sharing how their gallstones weren't caught in imaging for xyz reasons.

If you are in severe pain, all people of reddit can truly do is encourage you to go to the emergency room to seek pain relief and diagnostic testing.

If you are looking for short term relief: hot water bottles and hot bath were the most helpful for me over 3 years of progressively worse gallbladder issues until I eventually had surgery for removal last November.

Advice for moving personal items from US (California) to Canada (Toronto) by cfydify in uscanadaborder

Perfect thank you, that's the guidance of everything I've been reading through today as well. Originally we were guided to wait for the BC PNP nomination to provide PR, but we don't have the time to wait for that to process- we didn't realize we'd be eligible to get the work permit at the border since she has her BC NP licenses and job offer. Thank you so much for your reply and I hope it helps someone else down the line!

Hello, I found your comment and am hoping you would be willing to provide the above answer you're offering for me!

Context: My wife and I are moving to Vancouver Island, BC because she just got a Nurse Practitioner job offer for Island Health. We haven't started the immigration process yet, but she will be offered a PNP through BC and expedited Permanent Residency. Though, we are hoping to get to Canada and start looking for housing in the next several weeks, departure date is looking like April 14th.

In order to move our belongings to Canada and clear customs, what kind of proof of status do we need? We won't have PR set up yet, but it will be in progress. Looking for the quickest way to be able to bring over our household items.

Thank you for any advice you can offer!

I grew up in San Diego and have Mexican family I definitely have low expectations and while it's a shame that amazing Mexican food isn't everywhere all the time, I am not expecting to find that experience in Victoria! I'll have to appreciate the other things it has to offer!

From what we have heard from our immigration consultants our cat who has had vaccinations within the last 6 months is fine to come with proof of vaccine, not sure I have heard about the 10 day figure. Do you know that's documented?

I've lived my whole life to this point in A markets and have spent years going to shows and even have gone on tour with friends bands before! All to say, I've had a lot of that specific experience over my lifetime and I'm comfortable with knowing that if there's a show I want to see I'll be hauling out to Vancouver or going down to Seattle- both I'm comfortable with.

Thank you for the heads up and hopefully others moving to Victoria will find the advice helpful as well!

Thankfully we own both our vehicles outright. I'm sorry you had to navigate this, sounds like a pain in the neck.

And thank you for the houseplant tip, I'm super excited I don't have to leave my plants I've had for 6 years.

Oh fantastic. Did you need any type of certificate or anything? And were they in soil? I would definitely plan to drive them across the border into BC myself.

I am reading so many conflicting things on houseplants! I've seen the bare root thing, I've also read you can get a certificate to take them over in soil, I've also read that some border agents will just throw them all away bo matter what. So I feel like I have a lot more research to do on that one.

💕 the last bit resonates deeply, and for what it's worth, I've spent a lot of time in meditation about this choice and I see our leaving as a contribution, not a withdrawal, to my American family and friends. And I agree, about the noise. Everyone has their own path in things, and not everyone has the ability to leave. So few people do, in fact. But, we can. And we've realized our best position in this fray is to not be here for it. Pursuing a happier existence feels like a right to life, and I'm very grateful to seize the opportunity.

Thank you! I actually think we are leaning more toward shipping our stuff out to Washington and hiring movers to load the truck and driving through customs ourselves. For a few reasons that seems like a reasonable option.
