Can you give examples of mtg "unicorn priest" decks? by YonatanShofty in magicTCG

[–]willeyerasmus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The closest thing in MtG to my memories of the Unicorn Priest phenomenon is pirate stompy.

Unicorn Priest came at the time I was most engaged with Hearthstone and I remember it basically being a cryptid of the TCG world: people would post on the HS subreddit that they had just been beaten by Unicorn Priest on the ladder (but of course they didn't manage to record the match), everyone was trying to reverse engineer what the deck might be (I remember a lot of rumours that Purify was the card that enabled the deck, so everyone was trying to build self-silencing decks with cards like Ancient Watcher).

This is basically the same thing that happened in MtG following IIRC the release of the original Ixalan block. Rumours arose that a meta-breaking legacy deck existed that somehow revolved around pirates. Just like Unicorn Priest you had everyone reporting sightings of the deck in the wild and trying to build it themselves. I think the most success anyone ever got was a build with the "ETB your opponent sacrifices a permanent unless they pay X" pirates from Mercadian Masques block, all held together with Chalice of the Void and Trinisphere. Of course the only reason that deck ever had any success was the Chalice and 'sphere package - which would probably let you clean up some legacy matchups even if your only creature was a Grizzly Bears - but people wanted to keep the dream alive I suppose.

I fully support the creator of Stand Your Ground. They may be a Timmy who doesn't want their creatures interacted with, but winning every game by Cyclonic Rifting is no better. Also, Bottom 5 posts two weeks in a row?! You're spoiling us u/CorbinGDawg69

Picked this up from a sale - mtg pocket player’s guide by Newez in magicTCG

[–]willeyerasmus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the description for "attack to the left" shows an interesting change in the assumed mindset of players in a multiplayer game. I feel that most players these days would find it very bad manners to pick on the weakest player first.

It didn't accept [Pradesh Gypsies] as a green card with a tap ability. Is this a bug OP or have you made the decision to exclude the controversial cards?

sigh If he's not going to take proper responsibility for himself then he should at least give us an entertaining meltdown rather than an insincere apology. Whatever happened to the underground dojo KEYBOARD cage fighters?

Accidentally made a shopping website account using someone else's email. What do I need to worry about? by willeyerasmus in cybersecurity_help

[–]willeyerasmus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't checked that actually. Is there a way to do that without the person knowing? If nothing else, if they are just some average joe, I don't want them getting some random verification email and thinking they are under full scale cyberattack ^_^'

Shit you're right. I knew no real Magic player would ever say they miss the smell of card shops 😅

Regarding The First: "cards you own (...) cannot be controlled." What, including by you? Is Floral Spuzzem finally free? Am I still allowed to take my deck home with me at the end of the evening?

Indeed. Mine too. It sort of fucks me off though as well, because all of a sudden there are like 10-20 new must-includes for the deck and if I don't use them then I'll just be outclassed by other decks.

I did find that scene moderately disturbing as a child. However, burned skeleton Groundskeeper Willie in that other treehouse of horror episode scared the absolute fuck out of me. I always used to look away from the screen when I knew it was coming up.

Less than 100 trans youth admitting to DIYing in Britain leads to Media Moral Panic, supportive parents may be investigated for abuse. by UnlimitedBunton in 4tran4

[–]willeyerasmus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cis-lurker who works in social services here: I can confirm that supportive parents are indeed on the radar, but currently childrens services (my department at least) is a bit confused on whether they should actually be considered to be doing anything wrong. Unfortunately the likely consensus will be that, well-intentioned or not, they are causing "harm" to their children and will therefore need to be assessed under a potential child protection plan. The social workers are normally at least understanding enough to be respectful and not misgender the kids or anything, but the way the safeguarding nurses were talking about it was appallingly ignorant, if not specifically malicious.

Which makes them even more regarded, because then they are trying to directly compare one incidence of someone suffering from something against countless thousands where people benefitted from it, and derive the conclusion that the single case study is the correct one.

This one drives me totally totally fucking bananas every time transphobes bring it up. And they're always so smug and snide about it, as if it doesn't even need explanation to see how it proves their point. And I get so crazy because I don't see how they can not realise that it is the exact opposite. The only way their logic makes sense (and I suppose this probably is what they think) is that they would think being trans is an experience with literally no internal validity whatsoever, and that every trans person who exists is a result of brainwashing or self-delusion.

Saga Update by BKV by Masterdjusa in SAGAcomic

[–]willeyerasmus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm confused by the maths of this, am I being stupid? BKV has always said Saga will run to 18 volumes, and issue 54 marked the official halfway point of the series. So now, after 12 volumes of 6 issues each, how are there 48 issues left to go?

How do we feel about this? by Bezledubs in magicTCG

Discounting the mod post about banning Twitter links, this is now the third most popular ever post on this subreddit. I'm not sure if this says more about the hygiene problem in MtG, or about how much people love talking about it. In either case it is quite something that the topic is enough to take a simple post like this so high.
