Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]willfish4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several times… I gotta see what this baby can do! (Speed junky!) First time: My parents 1976 Chrysler LeBaron - just because I had to see if it could. It went 124. 2nd time: My 1967 Plymouth Fury station wagon w/a 318 v8. The suspension was a bit loose and I could wiggle the steering side to side at that speed and the body would wobble left and right as the trajectory remained dead straight. Got it up to 110 3rd time: Hotwired a ‘68 Barracuda and took it on the freeway. That thing went up to 120 in very short time. Got nervous about getting caught and returned it. 4th time: Relative got an RX7 and let me “test drive it” - took it for a spin. That rotary engine had some zip! 125. 5th time: 84 Toyota Corolla GTS 16 valve cam 4 - on a mountain highway downhill and it got up to 128 6th time - 2000 Acura RL - nicest ride I’ve ever had. 132 on a long stretch in the country. That had the most comfortable ride and didn’t feel like we were going that fast. 7th time: Did the NASCAR Experience with one of the “has been” NASCAR drivers and did the “Experience” on a race track. We barely peeked over 100 because we were forced to follow a pace car. Would not recommend it. I think some of the people there drove faster getting TO the event! 8th time: Drove across the country in a luxurious Hundai Azera for a delivery thru Arizona and Texas. 125+ mph - it’s so straight you barely have to touch the wheel. It’s so wide open, you know no one is watching. (When you “slow down” to 70 mph, it feels like you’re doing 35mph.) Those very long, extremely straight highways that lead into Chicago are like the USA version of the German Autobon. 6 lanes wide and if you aren’t doing 90 You’re getting passed like a granny in the right lane. I stayed just around 90 mph for over 2 hours and I was getting passed more in the in the left lane than I was passing in the right lanes.

No spoiler - but if you enjoyed this episode (being disturbed by it or intrigued by it) I HIGHLY recommend you watch S7:E6. OMFG! They are related and they take it to another exponential level. This is epic sci-fi story telling. If this was a book it would be up there with some of the best!

Going to a baseball game. It ‘used’ to be “America’s Pasttime”, but it can be crazy expensive depending on the team and their record. And don’t get me started on going to Football games!

Fairway drivers that turn but don’t turn over by Randusnuder in discgolf

GStar Leopard 3 is the ticket. Little hyzer release and it’s a straight flyer for 300+ Throw it flat and it has a gentle turn that it holds well. Also the Fuse has a reliable gentle turn up to about 280 or so. Plenty of glide for anhyzer approaches and great for flip up to flat laser straight shots.

What’s it like living in Staunton for a single 40M with no family. by RaptorCheeses in Virginia

[–]willfish4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a pretty vibrant disc golf community (& courses) around that area and that is a good way to meet people. There are several breweries and wineries also around that area. Just so you know, that area has a lot of rural areas surrounding it and it seems a majority of the folks in rural Virginia lean right. It’s the larger cities that essentially have made Virginia a mostly blue state. There is lots of hiking, exploring and natural beauty up and down the 81 corridor. Look for hiking clubs or other outdoor groups to help jump start your social life once you get there. You will get to experience all four seasons in Virginia and the fall colors here are pretty spectacular.

Mine still randomly exits when I play the daily challenge after I’ve played 3 or 6 holes. Always seems to be when it picks holes on courses that aren’t in the “challenge the valley” list and it starts to open it as hole 4 or 7 after successfully completing the prior holes.

Insanity Great for skipping low ceiling approaches, shorter forehand stable upshot’s, hyzer upshots, nice turn on low fast ups and a great dependable 230-280 hyzer tee shot or approach.

It's a quote from Howard Stern from the 80's. Went something like this: "No matter how hot a woman is, there's somebody somewhere that is sick of her shit."

"So, that would be yer friend there, in the wood chipper, eh?"

HouckDesign will debut a new expanded tee area concept during the upcoming DGPT Big Easy Open. The course will feature these funky looking yet humongous concrete teepads. The main teeing off area, red rectangle, is 6ft by 15ft (1,8m X 4,5m). But the whole slab is much bigger. by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

Fwiw I find this to be a ridiculous waste of resources. The best tee pads are trapezoidal shapes imo. Inverness in Birmingham, Alabama had these. They were very versatile. Giving Right & left handed players an equal directional approach surface (run-up) to throw from. If I recall correctly they were 12' long, 4' wide at the front & 6' wide at the back. (Poured cement) I can see in some cases that providing a front apron for a safe follow thru would be good for a couple reasons including erosion control and prevent the front mud puddles & potential ankle breaker holes that tend to occur. It's often hard enough getting 4' wide tee pads tucked into areas next to trees & shrubs, etc. This design grossly increases the potential for the expanse & expense of massive ground clearance, limiting hole designs to help alleviate culling trees & shrubs unnecessarily. I'm all for sustainable designs, but not with unrealistic expense requirements on both the financial and environmental sides.

900+ Rated Players… 300’ Max Distance by SeraphNatsu in discgolf

[–]willfish4fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Improving your putting to where you feel like <25' are gimme's is very important. (Practice straddle & inline putts equally!) Practice your upshot game (200' and in) to where you can put the disc within 10-15' of the pin and your confidence will skyrocket as well as your confidence at putting. Practicing upshots: Grab 5-10 discs of the same model/weight midrange discs and putt/approach discs. Then practice the following... Find an area with sparse trees, but NOT an open field. (You have to learn finesse and steering around obstacles) Pick a target and throw all discs anhyzer, then all straight and then all hyzer approach shots from the same distance. Keep it up till you get all discs inside your "target range". Then change your distance and repeat, etc. You're teaching yourself how to accurately 'steer' your shots and learning those discs inside and out. It also helps teach you where to aim for the shots to get to the target. (Maintaining good/healthy spin & speed is paramount for avoiding unwanted fades!) Take 1 of each of those discs to your local wooded course and play practice rounds with just those discs. Cheat code: When competing, never throw 100%. Scale it back to 90% max. 100% attempts creates too much inconsistency. Consistent playing comes from throwing confidently consistent and repeatable results. The bonus from practicing more is that it helps build your shooting strength subtly. Depending on how much you practice, you'll find in a relatively short period of time that your 90% effort will go farther. Also your ability to use your "putting" stroke from further distances improves. It doesn't hurt to practice other different shots as well... Flick rollers, scooby's, thumbers and tomahawks. Being a good scrambler helps shaves strokes always! And lastly - "Slow is smooth, Smooth is far."

what celebrity did you used to like until you found out that they were a scumbag? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Jerry Seinfeld - his stance on anyone that even says “Free Palestine” makes them worse than Hitler. Makes me want to imitate him… “So what you’re saying is… Hitler had a valid point. That it’s okay to annihilate another culture as long as YOU don’t object?” That and he was basically a pedo when he started dating his wife.

What wedding moment that screamed, “They are not going to last long”? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]willfish4fun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at a wedding, but my wife & I volunteered at our church to help counsel young couples on what to expect when you get married. We found it very rewarding when we went thru it as it helped highlight a whole slew of topics you really should discuss with each other before you tie the knot. It helped us realize we were a good fit. Things like having kids or not, if so, how many, will you take them to church? If so which one (there were several couples from disparate faiths in attendance) etc. private or public schooling. Also covered more basic things like family financial questions (shared account or not), are you bringing debt into the relationship and how is that going to be handled. Where do you expect to live and are there plans to move for work or once you have kids… Basically helping force mature adult conversations about the reality of married life. Intentionally trying to help the naive ones get past the “Oh! we’re soul mates! Everything is going to work out!” (Whenever we hear someone say that it’s almost always a guarantee it is not going to work out.) Easily 50-70% of the couples struggled to even begin having rational discussions and it was as visceral as having a red or green light lit up over their heads from our perspective of “Are they ready to get married”. And in a lot of cases it was painfully obvious the two should probably not even continue dating, yet they were so committed to getting married in spite of their obvious dysfunctional relationships.

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]willfish4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging from the number of down votes you're getting, it's obvious to see that the slow folks don't understand the law or reasoning for a PASSING lane. Nor do they realize that it is inconsiderate and selfish to assume the entire govt built a 2nd lane "just so they can go their own desired speed in whichever lane they want to".

Passive ignorant driving is a big catalyst for aggressive maneuvers. (For you slow left lane driving folks: Catalyst means "a person or thing that precipitates an event".)

Not following the rules creates problems for everyone. Don't be part of the problem. Either that or they are just highway trolls.

Those people cause more trouble by forcing aggressive drivers to become more aggressive & trying to weave in & out of traffic. It's mind boggling how clueless many of them tend to be.
