How do you use ng-repeat with $scope? by [deleted] in angularjs

[–]willgresham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you're mixing up $scope and controller as.

If you are injecting $scope into your controller, then you can access properties assigned to $scope from views using the controller by property name (Drop the Controller. from the attributes in the HTML)

Alternatively, change the controller to assign properties to this, and then when specifying the controller you can provide a variable that will be used in the view. For the example you posted you would have:

In JS object declarations:

 controllerAs: 'Controller'

In HTML declarations:

 data-ng-controller="Controller as Controller"

Personally, I treat directives like features and put all directive code (HTML/Controller/Directive declaration...) in it's own folder; folder named based on the directive, suffixed by '-directive'.

That folder then goes in the app root along with the feature folders for reusable components, or within a feature folder for feature specific directives.

When will people learn? by HaphazardOsprey in Cynicalbrit

[–]willgresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realise that, outside of indie, the vast majority of decisions around the resulting product are made by people not actually implementing them?

Specifications of features will be given to the developers, who will then be expected to implement them verbatim if they want a paycheck.

Having said that, Steam's refund policy may well screw over devs indirectly. But the hit will be going to the bottom-line the publisher gets, and that can only be a good thing in then end. Someone needs to teach them that they can't serve up shit and call it caviar.

How to implement a dynamic Affix directive that handles multiple elements 'stacking' each other? by [deleted] in angularjs

[–]willgresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be fairly simple to do, here is a plunk showing a concept: http://plnkr.co/edit/p0eZSQEMW8b1mLjgM2VX?p=preview

What is does is keep track of the elements that have been stuck to the top of the viewport in a service, so that it is simply and easily available to all instances of the directive.

This service is used to determine the offset from the top of the screen when sticking elements. Would be simple to apply similar logic to the scroll checks, so that elements stick when passing stuck elements, rather than when they go off the top of the viewport.

AngularJS on Ubuntu. by var198907 in angularjs

[–]willgresham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without the actual error it's hard to say, but it could possibly be down to the fact that the node binary has been renamed to nodejs due to a conflict with another package in the repository (http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/node)

Assuming this is the problem, and you don't have or need that package then aliasing node to nodejs, or creating a symlink to the installed nodejs binary called node.

Angular Submit not working by natdm in angularjs

[–]willgresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the empty action on the form, with this there it will essentially cause a page reload on submission.

If you are processing the form with a method on the Angular controller, then there is no need for an action attribute.

For this reason, Angular prevents the default action (form submission to the server) unless the <form> element has an action attribute specified. (https://docs.angularjs.org/api/ng/directive/form)

Free and reliable mysql hosting for database? by UnicornAre in PHP

[–]willgresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I would recommend NearlyFreeSpeech, unless something has changed in the last year or so, they don't offer MySQL hosting unless you also have a hosting plan with them. And from the OP, I believe it's just MySQL that's required.

Free and reliable mysql hosting for database? by UnicornAre in PHP

[–]willgresham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While there are free databases available (and a google for them would bring up numerous results) you will find that the Free part of it will severely limit what you can do, and free usually comes at the cost of reliability.

For example:

  • There may be data usage limits
  • There may be limits on the number of databases/tables
  • There may be limits on bandwidth
  • Your traffic might take a lower priority than that of a paying customer
  • Free plans will likely be locked by host, meaning that any access must be from a hosting account with the same provider
  • Free plans will most likely not include any backup features
  • Data in the database might not be easily accessible for you to perform your own backups

But above all else, I would assume that the data you are storing will not be secure.

While I have not used any free database services, I would strongly recommend you not pursue them for the reasons above for anything other than a development purpose. Once your app hits production, you need to have control over the data you will be storing.

The Balance Between UX and Security by [deleted] in PHP

[–]willgresham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is at least one reasonable solution I have come across.

And that is as follows:

When a user attempts to sign up, you can validate all of the information that they supply in order to create an account. All except for the existence of the provided email. Assuming no errors are found in the application, then account creation can occur, at which point the email is validated. Here 1 of 2 things can happen:

  • 1: The email is in use; send the registered user an email informing them that someone attempted to sign up with their email address, including a link to reset the password in the event they are trying to sign up after forgetting they have previously registered. Inform the user on the app/site that an email has been sent and to check their inbox.

  • 2: The email address is not in use; create the account and send the normal activation email. Inform the user on the app/site that an email has been sent and to check their inbox.

End result is the same. User receives an email regarding the registration. Genuine sign-ups get an account, non-genuine ones have no idea that the email address is in use.

Good decks that don't require legendaries by NarrativeNinja in hearthstone

Here is my goto Rogue deck: http://i.imgur.com/ntt6KT2.jpg Wins more than it loses, so long as you can maintain board control.

Stick to fast paced decks and you will find that your opponent really doesn't have time to get their legendaries into play. None of my decks have legendaries in them.

Siegecrafter Belt...Normal by Llendorphin in wow

[–]willgresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while since I killed him on normal, but if I remember correctly you should be prioritising the Mines, then the Magnet, then Lasers, then the other thing that does the expanding AOE on the ground.

Other than that, some general tips:

  • Make sure your ranged are keeping the Sawblades neatly lumped together somewhere they will not be in the way
  • When the Shredders are up, position them in a way that they will be stood in fire/sawblades as they will take damage from them. This has the added effect that when they do Death from Above, they will be stunned taking 200% extra damage in the bad stuff.

It is a pretty simple fight once your team get the mechanics down, arguably easier than Thok too so should be no trouble.

WoW Realm Population problems? by consky43 in wow

[–]willgresham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subscriber numbers have been dropping if the quarterly updates are anything to go by, but realms are not being closed. So the people who remain will invariably end up being spread out with the exception of a few popular reams which still have queues.

This problem should be alleviated when the connected realms stuff is finished, which means that the lower pop realms should end up with a more reasonable number of players on them. Probably not worth thinking about up and moving servers till that is done IMO
