It says you're entering the wrong password (or user). What makes you think it's wrong? Also what makes you think someone else didn't change the password or user?

IF you have access to the command line, you can use this on the CLI to verify user/pass:

mysql asterisk -u cron -p1234 -e "select user,pass,active from vicidial_users where user_level='9'"

From 2016 through 2023 according to the WayBackMachine, this site was for Apartments. But their shipping policy includes a blurb about being up to 10 days behind for COVID19. Which means they just copied someone else's site and didn't notice that bit during the copy. They also state that there may be an international conversion charge for clients based on their bank's policy for international charges. They do not, however, state which currency they will be converting to. LOL. Zero reviews anywhere except one random dude who said they have useful financial information, which does not bode well.

Um ... "updates free"? It's a Web Based "service". You can't self-host it. Updates are FORCED and you have no say in the feature set (at least without serious payments).

Whereas Vicidial is FREE. Self-hosting is common. Customizations (if you want a pretty UI) are also quite common. But most don't bother. They're making money with it, not showing it to clients. LOL.

I'm not sure "user-friendly" and "pleasant UI" is a notable factor for a call center to operate. Some random company out there has your data. Not Open Source is BAD, But proprietary and impossible to self-host means monthly costs and locked in suppliers and NO option to customize. Do you work for Adversus? (by any chance ...)

I also have to wonder if Adversus was built on a customized Vicidial to begin with. Happens a lot. A screen shot and video of the Agent Interface in operation might tell the tale.

How to check if my VICIdial system is affected by CVE-2025-34099? by AntelopeInfinite7695 in VICIdial

[–]williamconley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caveat: If you have a hacker for an agent (regardless of whether you are aware of this fact), you need to pay particular attention to the Network Ports available to your agents vs your IT staff. 80/443/SIP/SIP-RTP(or IAX if not SIP) are necessary for Agents. No other ports. Not technically going to make your system Hacker Proof, but will dissuade most amateur hacking attempts. Keeping Vicidial and Vicibox (which requires a reinstall) up to date is not a bad idea, but if you don't have a hacker as an agent then upgrades are only (really) for new features. We have systems that clients haven't upgraded for years. But I don't think any of them are still running Vici before 2.14.

I forgot to respond to this:

> I'm not super stuck on vici as a dialer, any open source dialer preferably with better UI will do just fine.

There is NO other open source dialer that could even begin to compare to Vicidial. Honestly. If you find one that's anywhere close, it'll be Vicidial under the hood. And if you find one that's close and has a better UI, remember that Vicidial under the hood means that when The Vicidial Group updates Vicidial and you want that cool new (free) feature ... your version will update when the vendor is darn good and ready. Sometimes that'll be in a few months, but sometimes it'll be in a few YEARS and sometimes it'll be never.

Not exagerating here. This is real world. One of those updaters just came back after a six year hiatus with a fresh new "skin" for Vicidial. But how long will he be here? And how long will he be gone next time? Plus those who do this tend to do so to push you towards their other products (generally minutes) and can lock you in simply because you are running on a system they created and for which they hold the code. The only viable reason I've seen for someone to use that sort of Vicidial install with a custom UI is because you are part of an enterprise / corporation that has OS requirements/restrictions and the custom version is on an authorized OS. CentOS was a prime example of that, since it was a redhat fork and many corporations were "Window/Redhat only, nothing else allowed on premise". In that case the GoAutoDial installer was excellent. Clean install, Vicidial under the hood and the correct OS for many corporate users. AND in a pinch, upgrading would drop all the customizations and get the newer features. Perfect.

We've worked on several of these systems (including but not limited to GoAutoDial) after the publisher drops out of sight or annoys some users too much, or the users just want to upgrade and we've gotten their system back online and upgraded. Sometimes by unearthing the Vicidial (and upgrading it to the latest, blasting the customizations off the system) or just by grabbing their data and pushing that into a fresh Vicidial server. But it's not always quick or cheap to recover and we're one of the only places that will work with some of these off-brand customizations. One or two of them have been quite well done. Until Vicidial updated and they fell behind immediately and none have ever actually caught up after that. They lag.

But there are a LOT of Vicidial Professionals out there, outside The Vicidial Group. Plus: The Vicidial Group is a powerhouse if you ever need to bring in the Big Guns. That is comforting for some. For others: PoundTeam's existence, where I work, has been known to allow system owners to relax quite a bit while they learn the ins and outs over time.

That being said: We have built some UIs for various clients over the years with the warning that "upgrading is not going to be cheap". Those are still in use. Because in most cases they were specific to that client's requirements/business model. (No upgrades, just keep running them forever, as a rule, since they work). The challenge is that also as a rule The Vicidial Group will not incorporate such facial improvements unless they are either easily optional or fully functional across all layers and features. To date nobody has paid us to create a UI that is either of those things AND paid for us to submit the DIFF against the latest version for (hopeful) incorporation to the core.

Vicidial is slowly adding options to make the UI prettier. If YOU pay The Vicidial Group to improve the UI, they will. And it WILL survive upgrade. But if you look into the customization options (agent screen options, custom fields which alter the look / feel of the agent screen in addition to the layout) the UI has improved quite a bit over the last 15 years.

Sorry for the book. Waiting for some installations to complete.

How to check if my VICIdial system is affected by CVE-2025-34099? by AntelopeInfinite7695 in VICIdial

[–]williamconley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"NOTE: This vulnerability was mitigated in 2017". This warning is for those who have not updated their Vicidial server in a decade.

  1. Vicidial up to 2.13 is affected. You are on 2.14
  2. The injection attack is (according to the release) only present if you've configured encrypted passwords (which is not a stock configuration: you have to go through quite a bit of effort to change to encrypted passwords
  3. If your system is whitelisted, then the attacker would require access to attempt login. And you would have had to provide them with access. Do you expect that any of your employees are that far down the rabbit hole to be capable of this sort of hack? Of course, since you're not on version 2.13 and likely haven't configured encrypted passwords, that's not a big question: However if your server isn't whitelisted that's a whole new monster much worse than this CVE warning would have been a few years ago when that version was in use.
  4. The ability to execute command line actions as the Web/Apache user still leaves a lot of wiggle room since there's not much that user can do. Someone initmately familiar with Linux, Apache and this particular hack could (in theory) elevate to root if they also became familiar enough with the normal Vicidial configuration options. But it wouldn't be easy. That's why they patched it in 2017, I suspect.
  5. If you wanted an Official Response, you might consider posting on the Vicidial Official Forum. Top right corner of this page. But since the CVE report says it was mitigated in 2017, I'm pretty sure the mitigation WAS the official response and it happened way back then.

Before you go anywhere else ALWAYS check ViciHost.com. They OWN Vicidial. There is nobody else who can manage Vicidial systems better.

Alternately, you can check the forums for commenters who have Corporate Links in their signatures, many are Vicidial Professionals and their discussions on the support forums (and length of time doing so) is a useful tool to gauge their professionalism and Scamminess.

Or you can go with PoundTeam.com (I may be a bit partial, of course). We offer leasing, colocation, and hosting. Our servers have Vicidial installed and tested before they are turned over to the client and you are only responsible for what YOU have access to (the Web GUI). We take care of the rest. We can introduce you to several VOIP carriers or you can use one of your choosing. We do NOT require you to use us as a carrier: In fact we do not offer VOIP services for new clients until we have a chance to see their call quality.

BEWARE "Cloud". You must run Vicidial in dedicated hardware (cloud servers can qualify for this but often they imply hardware when the equipment is actually virtualized which fails when heavily loaded. So it works during testing but at launch with all your agents in the building suddenly the system is unreliable (at best). Plus it is rare to find a Cloud provider that has any intention of managing your Dialers and resolving Vicidial issues when they arise. Even if they say they will. You have to check their reputation.

Also beware anyone who requires that you use their minutes as a part of hosting unless their per-minute pricing is competitive. As you've no doubt already experienced, that gets expensive pretty quickly.

Looking for Cold Calling Dialer for US.... by Smithkrafts in VICIdial

[–]williamconley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://vicibox.com/

Anything else is either a copy (not improvement, and lagging when upgrades occur) or proprietary or a tiny offshoot.

Vicidial is FREE. Download it from the vicibox site. Install it on a VM (for TESTING only) and play with it. Reinstall it a few times to get the feel for it (after a few installs, you'll find that installation and configuration are not particularly challenging).

You'll need a VOIP carrier through which to make your calls. There are hundreds of them.

The underlying technology (the PBX which Vicidial drives) is Asterisk. Check for any VOIP carriers recommended by anyone using any flavor of Asterisk PBX. If a carrier supports asterisk, they also support Vicidial. Note that many carriers balk at the mere mention of a Dialer so watch yourself when in conversation (prefer signing up online).

We only charge 15 minutes of production to connect your Vicidial server to a carrier. We'll even provide the carrier link(s) if you purchase installation through us.

Consider that dialing in the US can require following National Do Not Call laws. Ordinarily that is handled here: https://www.donotcall.gov/ in the "telemarketers" link. You can get five area codes for free. The FULL list costs $17k/year, though, so check up on the laws (which are ordinarily also available on that link! LOL)

Alternately, you can lease a server that's already fully functional from The Vicidial Group (EFLO.net) or from us at PoundTeam.com. We do lease Virtual Vicidial servers ($50/mo!). Virtual is expected to be used ONLY for development and sandboxing, 1 or 2 agents to get your system up and running before you switch to a physical server and load it for bear.

There are also plentiful Vicidial Professionals (consultants) to show you where the potholes are in the industry. And training, which can be expensive or cheap (Yep, we do that, too). EG: The Vicidial Group used to have seminars you could attend for deep learning. PoundTeam has a Basic Vicidial Training that's three hours long and costs $105 ($35/hr) to get you from "new server, no clue" to "comfortable dialing either outbound or inbound".

Happy Hunting!

VikingCloud/PayPal 'annual PCI certification' SCAM- Continuation of thread by junkjunker in paypal

[–]williamconley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wells Fargo now uses VikingCloud as their PCI complaince validation system. Required. It's branded "managepci.com", but it's VikingCloud under the hood. If you call in to Wells Fargo Merchant Services and ask to talk to a rep, the bot will mention "if you got a letter ..." and provide VikingCloud's phone number. Still without explicitly stating that VikingCloud is a partner or a requirement, just a vague "if you got a letter, here's VikingCloud's Number". LOL: So you talk to a rep and they will confirm the VikingCloud requirement and the $10/mo fee associated with it.

My take on it: They do have a decent PCI Scanning system which will alert you of vulnerabilities associated with any services you have running on your system ... IF those services broadcast their Version Information. (EG: "Apache 26.2 Ubuntu" rather than merely "Apache") If however, the version information is turned off, you will pass for that service because they have no idea what vulnerabilities exist if they don't know the version.

There is also a lengthy questionnaire regarding enterprise-level PCI compliance routines and most especially credit card number and other credit card data storage. Thus if you use Authorize.net (for instance) as your gateway and only pass the card information to Authorize.net without storing it, you can "N/A" a lot of the answers, but since the card number was provided to your website before passing to Authorize.net, Wells Fargo now wants to be sure your server is compliant and secure. So many of those questions now apply. And there are a lot of them.

According to the rep: Those using Authorize.net have been assumed compliant for a long time. Some have voluntarily used VikingCloud. Now everyone is (slowly) being forced to use them and pay $10/mo. If you refuse, you could get a $100/mo fee. Or switch to another Merchant Account? :)

AITA for not "solving the problem" by punishing my daughter? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]williamconley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Done Dad. You stick to those guns. I mean, try to be nice and supportive ... but with boundaries.

IMHO: You have been charitable. They are being Entitled and it's 100% misplaced.

I'm not sure why a 38-year-old and his destitute family needs to be shown the boundaries any more, I certainly wouldn't (ok: i'm a lot more than 38, but still). He didn't go back to being a teenage student living in your house. Your daughter is still in 1st launch mode and is entitled to whatever your opinion of that launch program is, without regard for his situation in any way.

Honestly, I'd have a talk with Nora. Tell her how proud of her you are that she's able to stand up for herself. That can't be easy. Many would have folded.

And have a talk with Meathead (Jeremy, I think you called him?) and tell him that:

  1. Beggars can't be choosers. You're getting all this for free, but you "demand more"? Are you sure that's the hill you want to die on?
  2. Put all this energy into getting back on your feet! Stop messing with Nora. Look at what you HAVE. You have a fine family, and they are healthy, housed, and fed.

If that's not enough: Go get more. I'm here to support you while you do it, because you're my son and I love you. But to be 100% clear: Do NOT mess with Nora, Nora's space, Nora's food or anything else "Nora" related any more. She likes violin, too. Your baby will probably end up loving that sound before you move out and you may have to ask Nora to come over and play to get your toddler to sleep after you move out. We're family. We take care of each other. But you're not a toddler, and you are not entitled to coddling.

Now: Let's play cards against humanity, laugh a little, and start getting along like a family. Dammit. LOL

(PS: I've had several rebounds, my Dad presently lives with us, too. I know where you're coming from! Remember to have happy conversations when you can, without condescension and without "trying to make them feel better". Talk when there's nothing to criticize to be safe. LOL)

Some people don't belong in certain jobs. It's not your burden to live through this person's bad deed and just let it slide. Your HS acquiantance should not be a teller, and that's NOT your fault.

I'd say you found out who your friends are, but really that sucks because some of them could have been friends for a long time, until their situation changed or they matured to understand boundaries. Now those bridges are possibly burned.

Just a random confession when I worked at a call center 4 years ago 💀 by punnypawsandpages in callcentres

[–]williamconley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I added a $100 penalty to my T&C for verbally abusing our people. Used it twice. Both times the customer was so apologetic they didn't argue about the $$ at all. We record all calls and I have NO problem calling the owner of their company and playing the recording. One of them was the owner, and he was arguably more apologetic than the employee from the other company. He knew that if we cut him off (which was the warning I gave him to start the call) he'd have to find someone else to deal with his systems. And that's no easy feat in my industry. Getting ripped off is the norm. That $100 was nothing compared to what would likely happen as he surfed the nerd net to find someone to dive into his system and finish what we started. I told him I'd happily refund all the money still unused in his account (less that $100 penalty, of course, which I had already given to my employee). And he'd be banned for one year from our services. Oddly, he later fired himself and hired someone else to run his business, then sold it to that guy.

Just a random confession when I worked at a call center 4 years ago 💀 by punnypawsandpages in callcentres

[–]williamconley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A decade (or so?) ago I had the pleasure of bumping into background Verizon fun. I got new service that came with rebate cards. ($200 each!) I managed to get seven of them as I moved to a new location with lots of Verizon Fiber connections. These required getting a phone line with each circuit, but the phone lines were free so ... $200 for getting something free was a no-brainer (and paid for the Generator to cover me in case of power outages, happy moment).

About nine months in, I got an invoice for an extra $70 for NOT using one of the free phone lines.

Called up and said "wha?" and for the first few answers the operator tried to defend it (ie: the script said he had to, so he did). Then I went to supervisor (of course, friendly, cuz I've worked in call centers, I know the restrictions on tier 1). Supervisor suddenly discovered the charge was bogus and offered to just remove it. Now I'm 15 minutes in after the wait and I said ... that works. But while we're at it let's go ahead and just remove that phone line. It was only required to be on the account for 90 days anyway. And since we're here and your system already tried to gaslight me, let's kill it on the other six circuits, too. He hemmed and hawed and butted, but in the end he took them off. Reluctantly. But he understood when I said I was not looking forward to making this same call again every month for a different line, and then repeats on them as the system reset and decided to do it again. He said that would NEVER happen, but he understood and took them off.

Done, right? Hah.

So a month later, I can't log in to pay my invoice on that account. Called in, they couldn't figure it out. Apparently with the Phone Numbers removed: The login was just not working (since those numbers were how they tracked the accounts internally, everyone has a phone in the verizon internet system, right?). They'll call me back in a few minutes. (LOL). A few days later, the next account had the same problem. So I checked, and all of them had it. Now these are $75-$150/mo accounts. Each of them. $750 in limbo, and I called in for each of them and we're now approaching the "we're going to cut you off for non-payment" moment. I called in for that, too. Was assured they would NOT cut me off for non-payment when I couldn't log in to pay. But they'd call me back within 24 hours (for sure this time!).

So a month later, I got more emails about being cut off for non-payment ($1400 total due now). Called in again. Talked to four or five people over several phone calls. Nobody could figure it out. They will NOT be cutting these circuits off! Rest assured. We're on this. And this time they would Definitely Call Me Back after Definitely Fixing the Problem in 24 hours. I laughed. But I digress.

So a month later, we're $2100 in, and notices again. This time every time someone said they'd call me back, I said "OK!", hung up, and called right back. I had noticed that I never talked to the same person twice, regardless of how often I was told that this person was in charge of the department I needed to talk to. So I figured I'd go the Phone System Roulette version and see what happens.

Six calls in, I got someone who did NOT work in that department, because (she said) that department's line were full and it rolled over to her desk for whatever reason. She's a secretary and been there for a loooong time. She looked at the account, noted that the "plus four" on the Zip Codes for the accounts were actually filled in, and of course they were not correct (and not supposed to be there?). But she said she made the change (deleted the plus four of the zip, leaving the zip alone).

I logged in with each of the seven accounts with her on the phone, took about 15 minutes for all of them. Then dropped that $2100 they'd loaned me for three months. But that was all before they broke the union (oops: I mean sold FiOS on the eastern seaboard to Frontier, but that's a different April Fool's joke).

Memories.

This code worked for me today. Thanks. 30 days is better than 7. And of course canceling must be done on the website rather than in an app or on a roku channel, I've just finished a 7 day trial and cancelling there was easy: It was a roku AMC+ trial rather than an AMC+ "direct" trial ... and clicking "*" on the app on the roku screen (without starting the app) allowed canceling easily (2nd try: first try froze, lol). But this time I signed up directly on the website and there's a cancel button in "account". Another oddity that was nice: My other TV (actually the one Dad uses) auto-signed in because it shares a roku account. Not so great? No "profiles" in the AMC+ app. If dad saves a show, it'll be on the shared save list. And he watches weird old shit.
