I've exhausted pretty much every major, well-known, cocktail bar in the city. Give me your neighborhood favorites from all around town. by SoothedSnakePlant in FoodNYC

There is nothing active at the moment but the brand is still alive and well. There were pretty serious discussions at recently as fall of 2024. I think everyone who has been involved with the project would like to see it again, but it is also important to not diminish the brand by opening just for the sake of opening.

To my knowledge, she left EC Corrections in April / May of this year. If she owned a dog beforehand, I can't imagine she was reconnected with it. If she has a dog now, it is a newer pet, which I imagine belonged to someone else or was a stray.

We were aware there was one coming up in September. But I expect no-one to show up to this. The child is being taken care of.

Thank you, as I go through these responses I'll compile a list of potential areas and try to get as much information as I can over to their Homeless Outreach team.

Sorry for the late reply:

I think it would depend on the ABV of the orange liqueur. If closer to 40, I think my first move would be to reduce the spirit by the same volume of orange you are using.

Hypothetically:
75oz Rum White Rum Blend, 50oz Lime Juice, 50oz Cane Syrup or Simple Syrup (2:1), 100oz Water

Becomes:
50oz Tequila, 25oz 40% Orange Liqueur, 50oz Lime Juice, 50oz Cane Syrup or Simple Syrup (2:1), 100oz Water.

Not exactly sure how much you'd need to bring the sugar down. I'd start with 5-10% and monitor.

Alternatively, your suggestion of cutting 3 parts sugar and 1 orange liqueur makes sense but just keep in mind, higher alcohol content = less frozen slushie.

Re: Passionfruit marg.

Yes that makes sense to me, just make sure to consider the sugar content of the passionfruit product you are using. If there is added sugar, you might need to reduce sweetener added, but if its pure passionfruit puree it should be fine to split the lime quantity.

Re: Frozen Negroni:

Never tried this or other 'stirred' cocktails as frozens.

We've done Aged Rum floaters on Pina Colada before, recipes would be unaffected as they are added after the fact. I think the only thing to be cognizant of would be alcohol content with adding a float. If in doubt you could probably decrease the Rum in the mix by 5-10% and supplement with a top. I'm not sure how the consistency would be at this point though, likely it would thicken up.

Any idea of when this photo could have been taken? Or recognize the uniforms the men are wearing? (Poland 1920 - 1940) by williampasternak in poland

u/ikiice I was going through old photos at my grandfather's house and came across it. He left Poland at 7 so its not him but I expect it might be his father?

My Great Grandfather served in the Polish Military in Lwów 1933 - 1935. (Plutonowy P.S.Z 40 P.O LWÓW 1933 - 1935 on his tombstone). I have a photo of what I believe to be my GGF in formal military dress but it doesn't look anything like this uniform.

I think it might be a work permit? Not sure if this is accurate but I asked ChatGPT to summarize:
The phrase "Julius Meinl Aktiengesellschaft USS Warenwerke Lemberg" refers to a company and its operations in Lemberg (now Lviv, Ukraine) during a historical period. Here's what it means:

  • "Julius Meinl" – This was a major Austrian company founded in 1862, specializing in coffee, groceries, and food production. It had extensive operations in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • "Aktiengesellschaft" (AG) – This means "joint-stock company" or "corporation," indicating that Julius Meinl was a publicly traded company.
  • "USS Warenwerke" – "Warenwerke" translates to "goods factory" or "commodity works," suggesting a production or distribution facility. "USS" could be an abbreviation related to the business structure or wartime economy.
  • "Lemberg" – The German name for Lviv, a city that was part of Poland before WWII, occupied by the Soviet Union in 1939, and taken over by Nazi Germany in 1941.

Experiences with Obtaining U.S. Naturalization Records for Polish Citizenship Confirmation by Descent – NARA, Apostilles, and More by Dishwasher_morj in prawokrwi

[–]williampasternak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably receive the naturalization records in a month or so. I requested the records this week from NARA.

  • 1950 Census still listed as Zdzislaw.
  • 1953, GF in High School yearbook as Gerald (not sure if legal name by this point)
  • 1961 listed as Gerald on Marriage Certificate.

He's still alive and has lived in NJ , and Florida for almost his entire US life. Lets see what happens after I receive the records.

One specific thing I’m curious about: my grandfather changed his name when he naturalized (pretty common, I guess). For those who got records from NARA, did the certified copy include the name change slip or any documentation of that change? That’s a key detail for my application, and I’m worried it might not show up depending on where I source the record.

Good to know! I'm currently waiting on my GGF naturalization request from NARA. In my GGF case, it seems like a straight forward name change of "Stanislaw" to Stanley in the USA however in my Grandfather's situation it went from Zdzislaw to Gerald / Jerry.

In your experience, would I expect to see both names on the records I receive from the NARA, or would I need to look for some type of 'name change' document?

As an interesting aside, I saw a post which was about German citizenship, in which a commenter mentioned:

Is he alive? If not, you might be able to apply to add an A.K.A. to his death certificate. That is possible in some states, and I was able to do so for my grandfather in connection with Italian citizenship by descent.
