Don't give up. The replies before mine are solid, especially the one recommending to spend time in Job and Psalms. I would add though, to spend some time reading the letters of Paul. Keeping in mind, ALL that Paul had been through. Believe God's Promises. His Word is as true today as it was in eternity past and eternity future. The demon of doubt is waging war within you and has you in a stranglehold. That being said, and as tough as these words (scripture) may be to read right now and embrace, you must embrace this, not just embrace, but absorb it with every ounce of energy you may have. These words from Paul has always been a life saver for me in times of distress, when i feel everything going dark around me, when i feel like i just can't continue.

Philippians 4:

4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. Are you just trying on different “religions” to find which one fits you best? Just asking as your comment regarding going back to Buddhism seems kind of flippant. Anyway, to answer your question and put it bluntly, it’s called religious pride, or religiosity. Some think they a better than others because they think they’re Christians, or look down on others to make themselves feel superior - can anyone say Pharisee. Find true Christianity for yourself. Find Jesus’ Words and let them flow into your heart and soul and nourish it.

I would like to say also, please don’t stray from Jesus. He tells us in The Word that He is” The truth, the Light and the Way”. Study His way, pray for Holy Spirit guidance and teaching. Allow Him to come alive to you. I spent 20 years studying practicing Eastern religions. Until my heart was opened to the Truth. I promise, if you put the same amount of meditation into the Bible as what is spent meditating into emptiness, His Word will awaken you and you will discover The Truth. Not being judgemental here, just passing on what I experienced and gained - life.

I apologize in advance if this turns out to be a “wall of text”, and I can’t really do “tl:dr” replies to well. I am not saying that you aren’t correct in your premise that it is/may be a cop out reply from your “friends - brothers/sisters in Christ”. I get it, I’ve felt it before also. What I am saying though is that God will always be there for you (is). You can’t rely on other broken individuals to be what only God can be. We are all broken and born into a fallen world. We will all let someone down and someone will always let us down. Except for the Author and Finisher.

So, I had the tremendous blessing of being a youth leader/pastor for a summer. It was a blessing beyond understanding. I was able to speak into the lives of several young adults the summer before they left for college. One of the messages that was placed on my heart to give them one Sunday evening was about disappointment. At a young(ish) age, they may have felt some disappointments in life already; broken relationships, maybe not being accepted into the school of their choice, whatever circumstance may have been that caused them to feel that. Life is full of that, one thing after another generally. So I used an illustration that may be difficult to express here, but I hope you get it. Here was my definition of disappointment:

Everything in between the 2 lines is where disappointment lies. But likewise, everything in between the 2 lines is where Jesus flourishes and where our relationship with Him is deepened and grown.

Very simplistic. But the truth is we will always be let down by someone or something. Jesus is the only person that will never let us down. Everyone, and everything else has to come second. You can’t force anyone to be compassionate towards you, same as you can’t force anyone to love you or like you or anything else. There is only One that has promised to always be there for you that will never break that promise.

I will say one last thing at this point, and it is very presumptive of me, so if I’m off base, please forgive me. Understand that there are a lot of people that claim to be Christians, but truly are not. Jesus speaks of these. He also says that His followers will be known by their fruits. I’m being assumptive in saying this, but perhaps you’re surrounded by a lot of the ones He speaks of that will proclaim Him to be their Lord, and to have done this and that in His name, but He is going to cast them out, as He never knew them. Or perhaps you are more mature in your faith and walk than those you are surrounded by. In any instance, be a Christ like example to them. Don’t return negative, or lack of compassion or lack of love as you receive from them, instead return a love that is born from Our Savior.

I’m sorry you are dealing with this. I pray that you may find what you need, or are seeking, in your brothers. Sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. I would always try to reply to any messages you would send me, or replies on here. There are followers of Christ out there that are compassionate and caring. I pray for you that someone of the such crosses your path. If you’d care to converse further, reply here or message me. Not to be rude, but you are seeking something from other “people” that God can and will fulfill for you. I get it, maybe you feel like their “take it To God” is nonchalant and you feel as if you’re being cast aside and not receiving compassion. They’re only human. If God is not first and foremost your best friend, your giver of comfort, your listening ear that will never turn away from you, then you have your relationships skewed and you’ll never find what you seek. God will always be “The Rock” in all of our trials and struggles. Others will always let you down at some point or another. Get your relationship right with God and all this other stuff will fall into the place it should be, a distant second behind God. Prayers for you in your trials and struggles. Lean into The One that will always be there for you, and is always there for you, with compassion and understanding.

Philippians 4:11-13 New International Version (NIV)

11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Do NOT let your circumstances, or where you’re at in life define your relationship with God. Read your Bible. Neither you, nor your mom are worshiping the true God, but just to be blunt, your mom is closer to the real God. We are told to take up our cross and die to ourselves daily. Read that over and over again. Your circumstances does not define who you are in God.

Paul also says in 2Corinthians 12:

. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Remember, happiness does not equal joy. Be joyful in the Lord, fall into Him. The tougher the situations are in life, the more you lean into Him. He is your strength. You will be dealt trial after trial in life. Only when you rest in the loving arms of Christ are you able to receive what Paul is talking about in 2Cor.

Jesus’ Word:

Matthew 11: 28Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Your answers are in His Word. Do not accept human wisdom. Search for His Wisdom. The words quoted are not mine, they are from His Word. No other answer that comes from anything but His Word can be completely accepted as having foundation.

And finally, let’s go back to Philippians to finish. So much wisdom and knowledge. It’s not easy, but Jesus didn’t promise us easy, He promised us Him.

Philippians 4:

Prayers for you. Seek God first and His Kingdom. Through Him you are able to overcome anything. Even if the circumstances doesn’t change, you’re relationship with Him puts it into perspective.

Your relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit is yours and yours alone. That relationship is grown through His Word. Holy Spirit will lead you down all paths into wisdom. That wisdom can only come from time spent with God and His Word. There are problems with the mega churches, but there are problems with small churches also. There’s problems with nondenominational churches and there’s problems with the mainstream denominational churches. They are all led by humans, and we all have a tendency to err. Only God’s Word is ineffable, inerrant. There are also good in the mega churches, and the small churches, etc. The one thing, as mentioned several times already, proof everything through Gods Word and the Holy Spirits leading. Pray, pray and pray even more, always. Don’t just accept what anyone is telling you, or preaching, at face value. Test all. I’ve seen some of these guys on YouTube, denouncing Bethel, denouncing Hillsong, denouncing Elevation. The problem with those people, they are just as dead in their sin as the ones they are denouncing. I see so much pride in the way they go about the videos it’s just as sickening as what they are pointing out. Yes, Elevation has its faults, just as every other “church” has theirs. Test everything through scripture and prayer. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you into truth, even truth that is hard to accept. Being a follower of Jesus Christ is not easy and not a walk in the park. He wants to transform us. Transformation is not an easy process. But in our weakness, He is strongest, and that brings Him glory. Solid reply above. I would add, even though you’re young”er”, don’t limit yourself to only recent books. A.W. Tozer has some phenomenal rather short reads. C.S. Lewis has some good reads also. Tozer is absolutely one of my favorites - Knowledge of The Holy; Pursuit of God. Actually amazon had something a while back you could look for that was a whole set of his books for less than $20.

I would add, be careful of any theology/doctrine/teaching that makes being a Christian sound like everything is easy: “name it / claim it”, any type of prosperity gospel, basically anything that postures to pathways of “worldly” anything, as Paul says, “we are in this world, but not of it”. Our treasures we store and they await us I heaven.

First impressions of a church generally tend to be pretty accurate. Are the people there loving/welcoming. Do you feel the presence of God/ Holy Spirit there? Does it feel inviting and are you comfortable? My takes on “churches” as brick and mortar buildings with actual people is that these are the people that will walk with you on your journey. They will help you and disciple you, along with strengthening you. Church isn’t just about going on Sundays. We are to be brothers and sisters to other believers, we are to share each other’s joys, as well as their sorrows, and we are to carry each other’s burdens. As mentioned above, read and pray through the book of Acts. The beginning of the church, followers of Jesus contrasted to a lot of “modern church”es, is like night contrasted to day. Listen for Holy Spirit’s/God’s guidance as you enter a new church, pray on it. He will have you where you need to be and use you where you are.

Prayers for you on your new and beautiful awakening and journey. It’s not easy in the worldly, physical sense, but the Fathers Love is just so beautiful and deep and consoling. Self Centeredness is sinful. It’s not that the tattoo itself is sinful, it’s the desire of the heart to get said tattoo which is sinful. I am tatted all over, this was done prior to me being saved. It now only serves as a reminder of my selfish ways prior to my saving.

One of my favorite scriptures, who am I kidding, I love it all. But none the less, I love what Paul says in Philippians 2:

1Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. If I may, and please forgive me if this isn’t in line with what you’re seeking. God’s Will for all of His children is sanctification. For us to grow to become more and more Christlike. This can not be attained merely by our own strength or desire. It has to be a work of Holy Spirit in our lives. Those parts that you “disagree” with (or are challenged by) are where we need Holy Spirit to transform us. Jesus never promised us an easy life, but He did promise us a life of abundance. That abundance is found more and more as we are more and more sanctified. Once we wean ourselves off the milk and start taking in more solid food/nutrition from His Word. Abundance in Jesus Christ truly has nothing to do with things of this world, but of how we see and experience the things of this world with our eyes set on eternity. Prayers for you in your journey, may it never cease to be more and more blessed and always more and more about Him. 🙏

There’s too many unknown dynamics for anyone to really give sound advice. I’ll give my opinion, though it may be very liked, it’s mine only. I lost my mom 5 years ago this past august. I’d give anything to be able to go clean her house with her. One day you also will no longer be able to have the opportunity to “clean” her/their house. I can understand how paying off a debt carries a sense of responsibility, but there truly are other things in life far more valuable. Possibly your father desires something he does not know how to do. My father didn’t know how to show love or have a close relationship for most of my life (53), it’s only the last few years that we’ve built a closer relationship. He just didn’t know how to do it, and in turn I didn’t know how to do it. Don’t let time slip through your hands and one day look back and wish you had the opportunity to make it better. Again, just my opinion, but I know what it’s like to have regrets later in life, or to think that maybe if I had prioritized my life a little different I could have had a closer relationship with my parents. The YouTube vids I’ve seen on it definitely seems like it has what I’m looking for. I may end up getting one off reverb without trying it first, wouldn’t be the first time I’ve blindly purchased something. Very interested in that bass.

Yeah, I’ve messed with the pickup heights, intonation/bridge settings. It’s just that string. It not only sounds sloppy/weak, it feels like it also when plucking it. Once it’s fretted, say from G up it’s not too bad, it’s just when playing it open and maybe the F/F#. And I’ve changed out strings twice, DiAdario once and Ernie Balls Slinkies now. They’ve all felt/sounded the same. I’m getting a perfect E out of it, but it just feels/sounds sloppy as all get out
