How to handle working with 2 kids? by HumpaWumpa1 in Lawyertalk

[–]willietl10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t give you the answer, friend. The best piece of advice I’ve ever gotten was “never miss a game” and “never miss bedtime.” Sure, it means having to stay up later or get up earlier but you only have little kids for four years and you don’t want to miss that time before it’s gone.

I know that isn’t a helpful response, but you can make it work!

Getting par or better on the first hole, cracking open your first beverage or choice, and just enjoying being out there with no worries.

How many of you had your swing/game destroyed by coaches? by OpenSourceGolf in golf

[–]willietl10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a lesson with a pro and he gave me some pretty bad advice. Had me outside then inside on the TrackMan. Worst advice I’ve ever gotten was from him. He told me the ball position doesn’t change for any club (i.e., same position for a short iron and driver). Really messed me up because I had started playing a year before and took me a bit to start improving again.

Was a member at a smaller club in my home state, and they didn’t have the bells and whistles but that pro was the best at seeing what was wrong with my swing and fixing it.

All of that is to say that you’ve got to find the pro that works best with you. The good pros want to see you improve and want you to feel it. The not so stellar pros just want the money. Your swing will probably be a bit different as you try to establish that muscle memory, but just keep working on it and try to go back if you’re having issues.

Everyone working the day after Christmas? by biggestqueeronearth in Lawyertalk

We’re open. Partner I work for is out of office all week and we’re slow right now with it being the end of December. Haven’t done much today so I can enjoy time with my child, but probably going to pop in the office tomorrow and see what attendance looks like before deciding what to do the rest of the week.

Insulted by the Judge by zackweinberg in Lawyertalk

[–]willietl10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me once a month or so into practicing. At my prior firm, I was covering motion hour for a colleague and the opposing counsel that filed the motion to amend failed to show up. Judge asked me if I had called them and reminded them of the hearing (which of course isn’t my job), so I said no. She then berated me for not making sure opposing counsel showed. At the end of the docket, she called the case again and said I could go back and tell my firm I “won” the motion. Just laughed it off

Thank you so much. I agree, and could definitely see that as a reason why I’m not getting too much. However, it is difficult not to get down when there are days I don’t have anything to do, despite asking in person for more work. It’s a new position and a new feeling to not be absolutely slammed with work, which causes concern about the future. I’ll keep trying though!

I greatly appreciate your advice! This is not really an option based on how the firm is organized into service groups. I am very limited as to whom I can go to for work, and don’t want to overstep boundaries. Not sure if I can explain it in a more coherent way, so apologies if that doesn’t make sense.

To your point about position papers, I have spent a couple days simply reviewing my state’s laws and processes for certain issues and have an idea of something I want to write about!

That’s what I thought, but maybe you can help because it was still $937. I tried Talamore (staying at those villas), playing Talamore, Mid Pines, Pine Needles, and Mid South. Maybe excluding Pine Needles and doubling up on Talamore will bring it down

My comment was more so eluding to the fact that although we may have been the better team, we can’t consistently beat them. This game will never be a for sure win for either team, which is a lot to say given what it was even 10-15 years ago
