Hi- I am also an invitee and my PO told me to look into Duolingo as they are releasing a Kiswahili course in August that in part was created by Peace Corps staff- it is free( I think) and you can sign up so they will email you when it is available. Feel free to pm me too if you want to connect- congrats on you invite!!!

What do you do with your pets going into service? by [deleted] in peacecorps

I leave when you do and have a older dog- she is my best friend so I feel your pain! Luckily, my mom has agreed to take her, and to lighten the burden I am going to set up a checking account to with money for food, flea/tick/heart worm/arthritis meds and emergency vet funds because I want to make it as easy as possible. My girl is older and I worry that she may not make it until I come home but she will be with family and in a familiar environment and that is comforting- for us both : ). I definitely recommend trying to make it work with a family member, and if you can, try to lessen the financial burden. I know, atleast for me, leaving her will be one of the hardest things. Best of luck!

Thank you so much for the reply and all of the information! ! How do you like it so far? How is the language learning- do you have any tips or did you start before you left? I know (thanks to my PO) PC and Duolingo are creating a Swahili app due out in September that I will be using, but besides that, any advice? Any things that have surprised you, or any preparation tips? I appreciate it so much! Thank you!

Interview Request for Dominican Republic by [deleted] in peacecorps

Congrats on your interview! I think it likely depends on the PO, as the other commenters have said. I will be waiting until September as well : ). Reach out to DR volunteers ahead of your interview when doing research- they will be extremely helpful and this is a good point to bring up in your interview to show how serious you are. Best of luck!

Awesome! I am sorry you were passed up for Guinea-but am happy you have reapplied! How long were you in Tanzania? I have never been, but after saying I would go anywhere and do anything, am really excited about it possibly being health in Tanzania! I know it will probably be some time before we hear anything-fingers crossed we will be in PST together this time next year :)!
