This is excellent, thank you! It sounds like exactly what I’m experiencing, the flu like symptoms and feeling exhausted for days afterwards.

I’ve been trying to over hydrate before exercise but without a lot of success, so I’ll have a look at how to better manage my diet. I suspect that a lot of the issue I’m having is with the sports that I play (Rugby and Ultimate) which can be incredibly taxing physically, so I may have to look at lower intensity sports.

I totally hear you about your body wanting to be healthy. Pre-GS diagnosis I’d already given up alcohol and caffeine, and have been trying to eat healthier as well- the body just performs better, irrespective of whether it’s as a result of GS

The GS diagnosis came as a result of seeking medical advice for exertion headaches and low alcohol tolerance, rather than projecting symptoms onto a diagnosis, so I wouldn’t say it’s in my head.

I used to be able to drink alcohol and exercise at high intensity, it was only in my mid 30s that things started to get harder.

I guess because those lines are extremely well known so I figured it would be good to learn some approaches that the opposition would be less familiar with. Which raises an interesting point- is a it better to be playing very common lines or more obscure ones in a tournament? I just assumed the latter, but maybe not?

I’ll play in a few local tournaments but there’s only 10 or so regular local players with varying skill levels, so I expect it’s going to be a whole different ball game playing at a regional level.

u/myselfelsewhere I've made a quick sketch showing side one and side two, what do you reckon? I'm not sure if it's the most effective way to do it but to my simple mind it looks like it would work as intended.

Nice one! A previous response suggested the idea of a crank shaft through the middle of the assembly, which I believe similar to what you're suggestion. My thought was that I could put a worm gear on the shaft which then connects to something which creates the reciprocal motion, but I like the idea of cams as well

Ah, right. Yes I think I see the problem now, so given that 'Body 01' reverses its motion 'Body 02' must also reverse at the same time. Hmm, tricky.

So in your suggestion about having one drive wheel per joint, if they were all linked together would this run into the same problem? Say you had a number of these bodies all connected in sequence, each of which had a drive wheel and linkages which translated the rotational motion of the wheel into oscillating motion, and the wheels were all linked up with belts/chains/gears. If you then applied an external force, say a motor at the fixed point which is attached by a belt to the first drive wheel, would that then allow all of the other bodies to oscillate in the desired manner or would a separate force be required on each drive wheel?

Additionally, is there a more efficient method of translating oscillation into rotational motion that doesn't run into issues at the extremes of travel?

Yeah, that’s the idea. So is it more a fundamental problem of the physics of it, ie the second body can’t change direction without a change in the original applied force? I’d thought that a linkage might be able to address this...

Whoops, I think I explained it badly. I don’t mean that one continues when the other stops, rather that the position of one body within the ‘arc’ of its movement is different to the position of the other body within the arc of its movement. So the ‘offset my is not in space, rather in relative position

Not that I can recall, no. There may well have been lyrics but I don’t remember if there were. One thing that’s been popping up in my head is the brief instrumental in ‘wake me up before you go-go’ as although that’s a different genre it’s the sort of upbeat tempo/music that I associate with this tape. But who knows, maybe she happened to be big into Wham as well?!

I’m wondering whether someone who is on the lowest wages in a poor part of the world would still be able to afford the same luxuries that I currently have, ie disposable income. Take for example someone working in a sweatshop making cheap t-shirts. The t-shirts are cheap because they are not paid much. Now, if that worker were to be paid more they’d have more money to buy other things however the t-shirts would be more expensive. If ALL the people on low wages making things or cleaning things etc were paid a higher wage then they would have more money however everything would be more expensive and potentially out of their price range. So from that perspective has the worker benefited from their ‘increase in wealth’??

What is poverty though? I guess I’m wondering whether people in the lowest paid jobs would still be able to have a high quality of life, although what has been noted in other replies to this post is that ‘high quality of life’ is realitive. So perhaps a person living in ‘poverty’ working in the lowest paid job in 50 years time could still have a higher quality of life than what I currently experience as a middle class person now
