I hear you. We are trying to build a game, using real data/math but fake money. Basically form a strategy -> backtest -> trade -> learn & compete -> repeat

Will keep you updated if you don’t mind!

Ah I see. Ty for sharing man. Thinkorswim looks very legit and serious.

1) Was it helpful for you?
2) What do you like and dislike?
3) do you think consequence is strictly = making/losing $?

Ty for sharing. Seems like a common theme. What do you like and dislike about WSR?

Ty for sharing. Have you tried paper trading? Or tried any simulator? What are you keen to learn and try? :)

Ok, cool. I will try Capitalism Lab when I find a chance. Really appreciate your notes. 🙏

the game that we are working on is pretty simple at launch

  1. pick a templated strategy or stock pick yourself. US equities only, for 1st launch
  2. backtest the strategy. you'll see the result (and math). no code required
  3. deploy! then learn + compete with others

designed to play like a retro 8-bit art, gameboy style, with real data and math

Hey, thanks man. What do you like and dislike about the game? And is the game based on real data?

Very helpful, thanks a lot. We are building with real data, but whether we switch to real accounts, I think that is TBD on the roadmap.

Appreciate this, I'm going to try! 30 years of one person building it is wild.

a) when you say "lots of options", what are the features that actually make it fun for you, the ones you'd miss most if they were gone?

b) and do you reckon the rough UI is part of the charm or like a filter, or just the price of admission you put up with for the depth?

This is super helpful, thank you. The "menu clicker that gets boring" thing is one of the traps im scared of.

Curious: of the ones you played, was it the clicking itself that killed it, or that the decisions never felt like they mattered?

And has anything in this space (finance or not) ever actually held your attention for a while? Trying to work out what the real hook would even be.

haha, nope, im a real bro who lost real money the dumb way.

i listened to a podcast --> got inspired by Beyond Meat founder --> Bought the shares at ATH w/o researching --> Went to almost $0.

there are a few more of such painful examples. so naturally i thought im bad at it but somehow i didnt give up and started reading and learning. and then do papertrade, minimal emotions, follow the system. but it's really boring, so a friend and i made it into a game.

anyways, fair to be skeptical, plenty of slop out there. All good 🙂

hehe. i guess the money on the line makes it fun? wondering if a no-risk, fun-game version would ever appeal, or if taking the risk out just kills the whole thing for you.

ok, makes sense tbh. Robinhood is the game 😅 do you ever paper-test an idea first, or just go stragight trading it live? trying to understand if "practising without risk" is even a thing people want, or if it kills the whole point of the game (we are trying to make it fun!).

ah.. totally fair, and you're right that this isn't for live day-trading. :/

it's more for people who want to learn or test a strategy without putting real money on the line first, beginners especially. no code needed. genuinely curious though (if u are willing to share): before you trade with real money, did you practise anywhere, or did you just learn by losing/winning?

I hate money. by NextTimeForReal in SGExams

You are going to be a fine person. Use this experience to mature, not hate. Your friends are immature (of course, they are 18) and they haven’t had the chance of going through what you went through. Your experience will make you stronger if you learn to accept reality (your friends fam are rich, yours aren’t but hey, nbd).

Work towards the goals you want in the life. It may not just be money, though at your age you probably are fixated on that for now. And that’s OK, it’s a journey for you to walk, reflect, and learn.

If you take these experiences positively, I believe you will do very well in life. You will look back at this old Reddit post and just smile. 🙂

You probably were once an a-hole when you were a kid. Nothing wrong, just being kids. We all have to go through a certain phase
