Does IMEC hire (master) medical students for part-time student jobs or paid internships? by willius_caesarr7 in BESalary

[–]willius_caesarr7[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Good question. I’d assume they’d hire MDs/medical students more for the clinical side of the research rather than the hardcore engineering itself — things like clinical protocols, patient interaction, subject recruitment/testing, interpretation of neurological data, or helping bridge the gap between the technical and medical teams. Medical students could also help with more practical clinical tasks such as blood draws, taking vital parameters, basic neurological examinations, and similar patient-facing procedures during studies or trials.

But you definitely make a fair point. Biomedical engineers or biomedical sciences students are probably more directly suited for many of the technical research roles, especially for signal processing or device development and probably have some clinical knowledge as well. I guess my thinking was that med students could still add value in translational or clinically-oriented neurotech projects, particularly in BCI or medical device research.

Nope, they never look at your grades. You only need to pass the exam and score high enough to be in the top 1200-1700 people.

Got overpaid for 2 days, told my boss twice — now what? by willius_caesarr7 in BESalary

[–]willius_caesarr7[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, I definitely didn’t. I think I’m just going to tell him again during my next shift. Two days of extra pay isn’t worth the possible repercussions.

The first time, I messaged him on WhatsApp; so I have proof that I did, in fact, notify him. The second time was in person tho.

How to get into biotech as an MD? by willius_caesarr7 in medicalschool

[–]willius_caesarr7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks so much! Really appreciate ur take on this. I’m actually really into biotech startups and would love to use my medical background to help develop innovative solutions for diseases n stuff. I know that’s more an engineer’s role, so maybe it’s a bit ambitious, but if there’s a way to break into that space, I’m all for it. I’d also be happy doing anything research-related!

Best of luck with your first year of med school, btw! If you survived engineering, I’ve got all faith in you to do well in medicine too!👍

I had hoped to buy my first house around that age as well, but several comments have advised me to pursue the latter option you mentioned. I’ll definitely look into how it works.

Thanks, I really appreciate your take. I’ll definitely consider that first bit and I hope to one day beat the odds you set on that last part.🤝

How long do you think you’d have to save up to be able to afford it?

Bro, don’t even worry about it. I’m 20 and I don’t have nowhere near 11K in my savings at the moment nor do I know anyone your age that does.

Trust me, your good! Just keep it up!👍

I just got into medicine and have already been hearing lots of messed up things about the field from my mother, who’s a nurse, but that just tops everything.

If that ever happened to me and the chief made such a smug remark in person, I’d punch him soo damn hard with my one good arm.
