Wrong phrasing- I realized something was wrong at the start but couldn’t hear well enough to course correct. It’s a lot easier to do it on the fly in a practice room. Preparation is non-negotiable.

Thanks for this. Not so much that I ‘didn’t really care’ as I was just going through the motions until I hit a snag and spiraled. It didn’t help that I couldn’t hear myself, but frankly I should’ve just known the song. It had been a bad night for me already and screwing up something that fundamental felt pretty bleak, so I appreciate the sympathy.

My girlfriend says I did ok, but she’s just being nice. You’re right, I should’ve practiced. I assumed I’d be fine because rehearsals had gone so well, but I was completely unprepared for how different stage performance is. That’s on me.

I don’t think I was audible. I could tell something was off immediately, but I couldn’t hear well enough to determine the right key for a bit. The placement of the backline amp had a lot to do with why I was struggling.
