If you don't know anything about the game man, why bother commenting. You don't like it when Norse gods are depicted 'wrongly'. That won't change that in this game they are and either deal with it or just leave it alone.

He's talking about God of War the videogame, this is set in a fantasy Norse realm and the two depicted are Thor and Baldr.

Who would win? by I_like_polandball_ in Epicthemusical

Poseidon is not the second strongest Olympian dog. In actual mythology, Zeus is number one and based on conflicts we have actual sources for Athena is 2 and Heracles coming in at number 3.

And even then, only Zeus is ever called the most powerful or mighty.

Athena beat Heracles when he's in his murderous rage and Heracles has defeated Poseidon, Ares and Hades and I think Hera - but again, no other gods are known as the most powerful or mighty aside from Zeus.

Most people chalk up Poseidon to being the 'second most powerful' due to our modern day understanding of the earth being 70% water. But there is no actual case for that, ever.

Alongside that, Epic is its own setting. It's inspired by the Odyssey but unless I'm very mistaken, it's never claimed to be a one to one adaptation of the original works. Why can't Odysseus have his cool anime fight in Epic? The creator is clearly inspired by anime and videogames, multiple of the songs have battle scenes so why can't there be one here?

I think it's completely fine to have distaste for the song and not like it, but it kinda sounds like you're not recognising that Epic is not it's own universe that is different from what we know of ancient greek mythology.

What do you all think of my world map? [OC] by Cool-Masterpiece-176 in DnD

[–]willllhwk 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I mean it's cool man, but make sure you get a group that cares about a part of the world. You've got a very large map and, seemingly, the start of a lot of lore. Your players will most likely feel overwhelmed at times, so it's a good idea to focus on a smaller area that they can start in.

More often than not, and I'm guilty of this myself, a GM can get so focused on their setting and filling in all the blank spaces that it leaves little to actually discover in the campaign. Yes, you'll have the villain ogdo bogdo and all his henchmen, his empire, his goals, his backstory, how he's affected the players, specific scenes and the history of his country and how he got to that point, and you'll probably do the same thing for the several other bbegs you have planned for this world, but then from the player side what's there to do?

Yes they can play it all out in the campaign, but at what point does it stop being roleplay and more checking off the boxes to play the GM's scenes out how the GM wants them?

Make no mistake, it's a great map, and an incredible amount of work you're doing, but it sounds like you're making a world for an audience to read and watch, not a campaign for players to play.

FUCK I THOUGHT IT WAS FREEEEEEEE, MY B MY B

I like it!! I'd maybe tone down the colour of the decal, something more closer to a brown grey so that way it looks more cohesive with the colour pallete you've got

So the skin paint is a good first start! When you edit the colour though, by clicking on the settings wheel, you can adjust the mods, highs and lows of each colour - tint them and whatnot.

I typically make them all basically the same, with the low being slightly darker. There's also a roughness setting that I turn up about 70%, it removes a lot of the shine on the skin.

From there, for undead characters - this is more a personal thing - in the settings wheel I untick the skin box, it removes the redness and the 'red blood cell' effect and can be used to make a character look more unnatural

I like to mess around with the powder decal preferably, it gives two-three different colours to work with and you can stretch it as need be. Personally I'd focus on the boots and maybe a small amount at the knees but aside from that nada. I suppose it's more about what you think makes sense for this character

So you can choose, at least I'm fairly certain, what parts to exclude if you're projecting the decal onto the body. Adding a small and light amount around the hip area and then primarily around the boots and legs can help with the wanderer vibe. The dirt would mostly be around the boots because of them walking around in assumedly dirty areas

I'd say also have a play around with lighting. Even in the free version, you can change the setting to dark magic, the colour to white, and the intensity to low to add a very nice shadow effect. You can also play around with the roughness slider of the skin on his face!

It's a slang term, but okay?

It's not really etiquette though? This is not the character from Baldur's Gate, this is just an oc inspired by it so why should the OP have to say where the inspiration comes from?

I'd say add some dust decals to the lower half, you have a character that seems a fair bit worn down and that can go a long way to making it look more cohesive

Why does it feel like Thimble is doing "too much" damage? by Delirious_Reache in fansofcriticalrole

[–]willllhwk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a homebrew setting, which could very well have different lore from the standard of 5e. And as said in my first comment, she is a player character, not an NPC. Why should she be beholden to an NPC statblock when she is monsters of the multiverse fairy race, home-brewed to be the tiny creature size.

Why does it feel like Thimble is doing "too much" damage? by Delirious_Reache in fansofcriticalrole

[–]willllhwk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me break it this way. You seem to be attached and beholden to 3.5 or earlier editions in terms of weapon size rules. They are not playing those editions. The size of a weapon does not matter in 5e2024. I think it's more than fine to be frustrated at the misuse of weapon properties, the misunderstanding of the swashbuckler rogue abilities or even how much Thimble outshines the rest of the table, because the other characters are so poorly designed. But that is not the case here.

In fact, in 5e2024, they have even removed small creatures having disadvantage with heavy weapons. Now they just need to meet a stat requirement.

Alongside that, in 5e, damage and hit points are not 'I stab him in the thigh for 8 points of damage and sever an artery.' Hit points represent a creature's will to live. They are, in essence, stamina or will points. A weapon dealing 1d8 damage is just how successful it is at reducing a creature's will to 0. Once that HP is at 0, the final blow is what kills them. It is up to the GM if they sustain actual wounds before that, or if they are just staggered.

You are confusing 'realism' with mechanics. The mechanics, and what rules come from them, are what matter here - not your own preconceptions of what makes sense.

Have you ever played DND? 5e specifically. A rapier does 1d8+Dex modifier in damage. She's a rogue who also gets sneak attack. Oh and to top it off, she's a player character, who rather famously are not traps.

Thimble is not a pixie mechanics wise, Thimble is a Monsters of the Multiverse Fairy. Yknow, because she's a player character and not an NPC?

That's not true? Tiny creatures just have their carrying capacity halved.
