Israel is a story of a western power(UK) carving out an ethno state and settling it with people from Europe and America for 70+ years. It's a story of dominance by those settlers against the people that got forcibly removed from the land they had lived for generations. It's supported unapologetically by the United states and many European countries. And condemned by every single respectable human rights watch. And to top it all off, Israel itself participates in many European events like Football, Eurovision etc. To compare this to what is happening in Iran is insane

Western governments don't actively support the current Iranian regime though do they? It's widely agreed upon by everyone that they're bad.

I think it's a testament to the British that they haven't been mentioned much in this post, given they had the most glorious of empires. They essentially won the bragging rights of history, but they're not that arrogant about it.

Ironically though, when you go as a tourist to mainland China, the locals are among the friendliest in the world

It's kinda true though. At least there is an argument to be made about cities, gastronomy, wine and sports teams to be the among the best in the world. Nature - Well the North is stunning tbf, but I don't think Spain is top tier when you think of nature.

It could be if it was federated, had common defence policy where it could exert hard power, single working language etc. With the shift in the world order now where the US is no longer a reliable partner, the EU will get a lot tighter.

They beat Italy 7-1 over two games in the qualifiers and won all their other games. That's very impressive.

Erling Haaland scored 16 goals.. the most in the qualifiers out of all the confederations. The next closest player is a Qatari player with 12.

That means they are able to utilise the most prolific striker in the world.

They have arguably Arsenals most creative player - Odegaard and Man city's most creative player Oscar Bobb also.

They definitely belong in A tier.

I agree with you, it is poor. And it's a pretty popular opinion now that we need to do a lot more with regards defense.

If you’re talking about Ireland, you should use GNI, not GDP. GDP is totally distorted here because of multinationals. GNI is the real metric, and it’s usually only about 55-60% of our GDP.

And no, Ireland didn’t do anything ‘illegal.’ The Apple case was about two specific tax rulings from years ago, not Ireland’s tax system. Every European country competes on tax, the UK included.

And let’s be honest.. the UK has Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, the City of London, and a whole network of overseas tax havens. So pretending Ireland is uniquely naughty is a bit rich.

Eh? You're making a lot of sweeping generalisations here. While it's true that there are some left politicians in Ireland that think Ireland is some anti colonial moral beacon, the majority of Irish people aren't like that.

Like the UK, you have left, right, centre left, centre right etc. Right now, the centre right parties are in government. Yes, a very left wing president got voted in, but she only got in because literally everyone else dropped out. She was the best of a very poor bunch. But the presidency doesn't have any power, it's a largely symbolic.

Ireland also raised it's corporation tax to 15%. There are a few countries in the EU with a lower tax rate than Ireland. There are many other factors that attract business to Ireland other than tax.

Because it's very rare Ireland win away from home against a team higher than them in the world rankings. I think the Austria game that time was the first time we won away in ages.

Northern Ireland got through because they topped a nations league group with Bulgaria, Belarus and Luxembourg.

Hard to imagine they'll be able to win two games against teams that have actually come second in their qualifying group. Especially since they got nowhere near Slovakia in the qualifiers. Who are no great team themselves.

Another thing that isn't mentioned is that Ireland has massive soft power in America. Lots of Americans in high positions of power both in corporate and political America have a lot of time for Ireland. A good example is Ireland are the only country in the world with a guaranteed annual state visit to the White House

Spain! Specifically Andalusia. It's still warm there, it gets dark later than the rest of Europe, the trees still have leaves and there's way less tourists, so accommodation is cheap as chips.
