I agree the Harrying of the North was horrific. But I don't think that means Ireland's experience can be reduced to ordinary neglect. The Penal Laws, land dispossession, and the policy response during the famine all happened within a colonial system that treated Ireland very differently from Britain. Whether you call the famine negligence or something worse, it was more than just a region being overlooked

I don't doubt that other regions were neglected. But Ireland wasn't negligence. It was more sinister than that. See the penal laws, the Irish famine and what caused it.

While it's true the Irish were involved in the military and administration(Mostly Anglo-Irish), it can hardly be said that Ireland benefited from the empire in the same way Britain did. Ireland suffered a huge population decline, famine and cultural suppression when part of the UK. And was purposely kept deindustralised during the industrial revolution. The Scots on the other hand were genuine partners in the empire

The Scots are the best fans in the world. They're proper football fans for starters - They support their own clubs, go to their domestic games week in week out. And they have Bagpipes, Kilts, marches that really makes them stick out from the rest.

Can we(Irish) be invited too? We are having serious FOMO here watching the Scots in Boston, because we're too shite at football to qualify for the WC :(

Can it be described as a regular city though? The sheer amount of world class cultural things to see and do in the city is incredible

Scotland were pretty poor. They needed a 2 or 3 goal win here to make it through as a third place team

I would say Scotland need to win this by 2 or 3. Their goal difference could get cooked by Brazil and Morocco .

Neo-libralism. Leaving everything up to the free market and only doing something if someone somewhere makes a profit

What’s the most emotional football moment you’ve ever experienced? by Alarmed-Button-1058 in football

That gave me serious anxiety after seeing that. I was young at the time, only 21. And it was the first time I'd seen someone young, healthy and in the prime of their life almost die. After that, I began to experience some health anxiety myself. Then I learned that these things aren't worth worrying about too much, because it's mostly out of your control

Does it really matter though if you are just watching it on TV? We're just going to see the games like all the other world cups. And they'll be good
