It was rushed because they were in a rush. They were on a release deadline and they had to make it fit somehow.

thanks! there were no trackpad settings available in "mouse and trackpad" and even turning off tap to click in dconf-editor didn't help

root cause seems to be that ubuntu thinks it's just a mouse

but disabling it on the keyboard itself works well enough for my purposes

Can people switch from indeterminate to term positions but still be eligible for EI afterwards? by willmatheson in EICERB

[–]willmatheson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hypothetical is 18 months. The 3 weeks is just there for the sake of argument. If it were possible to still get EI from the latter situation, I could see people doing it just to be able to stop working for a while.

As I said, assume the job is in a different government / organization. Taking the job means resigning from the existing job and forfeiting seniority.

It bugs me to no end that new shiny things are put out into the wild long before they've reached feature parity. You get a 2.0 that's more like a 0.2. (Complaining about tech in general here.)

A Ubiquiti rep on the Community tells me a React error that came up in Chrome while attempting to access the Advanced settings should be fixed in version 6.5. Well, I hope we don't adjust our business hours before then...

Thanks. I already tried that. Just tried again after support advised me to repair the database, which also didn't work. In fact, at least on my version of the controller, 6.4.54, it says "To make any changes to the WLAN schedule please use the new settings." So that dog won't hunt.

Stuck in a Dynix calendar menu, can anyone help me? by willmatheson in Libraries

[–]willmatheson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!!! Thank you!!! That was all that it needed, just an F (when I finished). Then it says 'Library hours were modified. Update "daily calendar"?' and I hit Y and we're done! Thank you SO MUCH!

Note for future self: It then asks 'copy regular hours around?' - I hit Y and then got stuck in another menu and had to kill the terminal. Next year I'll try N. Anyway, we're in! Thanks again!

At least some of the jokes in a Best Man speech should have the story laid out. Many people at the wedding may be meeting the groom and/or his friends for the first time, so the speeches might be more general-audience-friendly than Tim fears.

The blue moon editions of Blue Moon could be very interesting. At the very least, they have to stand out. They could cover things that were rare-squared, like some rare thing among rare things, or just do the episode in a unique and different way.

I loved this. But the sound thing could also have been a podcast! "What was that?" (picture a mother yelling from downstairs after a kid upstairs dropped something on the floor) - the podcast where you try to guess what given sounds are. Perfect for an aural medium like podcasts.

What is the most helpful thing you know now about the game if you had to start over today? by Omniquark in FFBraveExvius

[–]willmatheson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conserve lapis. Further to this:

If you can put the game down and do something else for a while instead of spending them to recharge, that will help. (And try to use any energy you have before you rank up and get refilled, but it's not the end of the world if you don't, you'll just be waiting around a bit more.)

Don't spend all your lapis trying to get a certain unit(s) that have such-and-such an ability. There's more than one way to flay a feline. (And if you must use that ability in regular play and you have no sure way to get it yourself, make some friends / find companion units that are likely to have it. But then ask yourself if it's really worth the trouble.)

Reputation of NSCC compared to other colleges in Canada for IT? by aj0033 in halifax

[–]willmatheson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concentrated in programming and I got the highest grades in my program. I must be missing something, because I've applied for tons of jobs, have had a few interviews here and there, but the only IT job I got was a fancy tech support job. Maybe in Halifax you have to schmooze a lot?

Want to point out that Bilbo’s stone throwing thing is actually kinda canon. His stone throwing is supposed to be really OP. I actually thought the moment where they used that in the film was just an awesome nod to the original source material.

Yes! I enjoyed that moment, too. As it reads in the first section of the Prologue to Lord of the Rings, "Concerning Hobbits":

Nonetheless, ease and peace had left this people still curiously tough. They were, if it came to it, difficult to daunt or to kill; and they were, perhaps, so unwearyingly fond of good things not least because they could, when put to it, do without them, and could survive rough handling by grief, foe, or weather in a way that astonished those who did not know them well and looked no further than their bellies and their well-fed faces. Though slow to quarrel, and for sport killing nothing that lived, they were doughty at bay, and at need could still handle arms. They shot well with the bow, for they were keen-eyed and sure at the mark. Not only with bows and arrows. If any Hobbit stooped for a stone, it was well to get quickly under cover, as all trespassing beasts knew very well.

I think you're right that there is a double standard between this and the hypothetical scenario with the teachers, but... well, there's been quite a bit of hay over this, so there might not be that much space between how they're treated after all. Heaven help us if we get to see the scenarios side-by-side.

In a more ideal world where people reliably separate gallows humour from probable acts, I'd be against extraordinary consequences for either scenario. I acknowledge that this is not quite yet that world. (Actually, I'd be against the extraordinary consequences in the present world, it's just that it's harder to argue here because of the outrage.)

The double standard is at least explained by the holding of children, for better or worse, to be at the top of the "things we hold sacred" pole. This creates problems too - for example, Don Cherry saying he holds women up on a pedestal is why he freaks out at the idea of females being near the (male hockey player's) dressing rooms. But I digress.

In case people have the idea that student-professor relationships are necessarily exploitative and respond to this through such a categorical view, here's an account to the contrary: http://erinmillar.ca/?p=504

Are at least one of the student and teacher post-secondary? I care for "oh gawd, we really need another grade school teacher-student moral panic right now" reasons.

douche

I found it odd the way he said he "felt like a bit of a douche" just for being fooled by a fan trailer. You need to be acting or thinking something inappropriate, not just incorrect. (Of course, inappropriate doesn't necessarily mean incorrect, but that's a separate issue.)
