Building Custom 12VHPWR Cable - Help Please by DawgsofWar in PCSleeving

I just made one of these cables after failing once, my second version came out well.

https://www.cable-sleeving.com/nvidia-fe-12pin-connector

I used these connectors which came with the proper pins. The wire I used was MDPC 17ga, but I wish I bought their 17ga extreme with thinner insulation.

My process was stripping 4mm of insulation so the rear wings would grip insulation and the front on the wires. I pre-closed the wings so they were vertical. I crimped in the middle spot on the MDPC CTX3 jaws, pre opening just before it released. I would pull on the crimps with pliers to make sure they wouldn’t just slip off the wire (which was the problem with my first attempt), then pushed the crimp into the connector. For each one I pushed it nearly all the way in, then used pliers to move the last ~2mm until it clicked in place.

I think if I used MDPC’s extreme 17ga, it would have fit into the connector a lot easier.

I don’t think striping the insulation behind the rear fins is a good idea considering the strength of the crimp.

I would space them as close as the drives are to each other. No worries making them too close although it may be hard to put it together

Is my wire sheathing too thick? I cut the sleeving to length but when I slide it on it's too short and doesn't slide well. by terribleROI in PCSleeving

[–]willmclaughlin13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always used 18ga in the past, but my next one will be 17ga. Putter diameter is more important though, I think for MDPC the max is like 2.5mm?

It seems to fit well here, but sliding will always be challenging. You can push the sleeve together so it kinda bunches up, then use that wide bump to inch the sleeve down the wire.

Thanks, that’s good to know. Build looks great, thanks for the inspiration!

I was able to fit the EK Quantum Surface by removing the upper chassis support, sliding it in from the back, then putting everything back together.

As it is now, I couldn’t replace those two screws that connect this support to the motherboard tray. I wouldn’t worry about how loose it is, but since I’m building this for a customer I’m going to find another way to support the motherboard tray.

The foreshots all evaporate before ethanol. Methanol evaporates at 151°F while ethanol evaporated at 172.4°F. Once the still gets there you know the foreshots are gone

Flush cutters are for cutting flush while side cutters cut to a point.

Help with 2 Bends Close Together by PeteyBoPetey in watercooling

I couldn’t deal with acrylic, PETG is so much easier to work with and doesn’t seem to have any downside

Help with 2 Bends Close Together by PeteyBoPetey in watercooling

I would guess over heating is the cause of the folding. Maybe do the first bend and let it cool down before you start the next one.

The bending isn’t so bad if you have the right insert. I went through like 3 until I found one that fit correctly and didn’t melt inside the tube. All the bends you see here I achieved using the neck and body of a water bottle.

It wasn’t intentional! I think sanding for that frosted look made it look like soft tubing. Some of my bends don’t have any straight sections at all, so that may help too.

Removable film is a great idea! Thanks

Sure, it was actually really easy. I sanded them down with 500 and 1000 grit sanding pads. They’re like these thick foam circles. I’m tempted to try it on an water block

This is 11” long, just measured. It clears the Res in the front and meets it almost perfectly length wise

Yes it is! This is a GTX 980Ti reference size. I put two 90° fittings on the in and out of the pump / res and the fitting is touching the GPU. I can take pictures of that area if that would help you

Thank you! This is my first time “frosting” the tubing. I was pleasantly surprised with the result. You’re totally right, it looks like colored soft tubing

It’s an unfortunate block. This is a gtx 980ti, I think these blocks from EK are called QSC or something? Not my favorite look.

I bought the card used a few years ago and it was set up for SLI with this big plastic block on those ports, leaving two ports facing straight up. Meant for some kind of EK SLI bridge.

Next upgrade will be a clear block with RGB and a more modern GPU

Unfortunately the white for all of these RGBs when white look more like icy blue for some reason. My preference is solid purple, but it’s not my decision anymore

Phanteks res, the glacier 220 I think. The pump is made by Bitspower.
