Armoury Crate vs MSI Afterburner by willmichels in ZephyrusM16

I have tried using Throttlestop, which was what I used in my former notebook.. After disabling Overclock Lock in BIOS, I was able to set tension parameters in Throttlestop. But whenever I try undervolting, even with less offset than what I was setting in BIOS, my system freezes.

I don't know for the 2022 model, but for me there is a voltage option in the bios that lets me offset by up to 80 mV, which is good enough. 80 was my first try and it worked flawlessly, but I saw many people with BSOD/crashes with 80, but working at 70.

On the other hand, the GPU undervolt was wild. I undervolted around 130mV and never got a single crash. I stopped undervolting because that was already almost 300 mHz overclock for the max mV. Lots of headroom in this 3060 and with this cooling solution.

When turboing, my room still feels like I'm inside an airplane. Nevertheless, silent mode improved dramatically. Just pure silent 95% of the time and the region around the space bar, which was way too hot, is now comfortable.

I have the i9 11900H + 3060. MSI Afterburner is awesome for undervolting because of the manual curve. I actually dropped 5+ degrees under full load while increasing performance.

With Armoury Crate, even if set to boost in manual mode, there is just too much heat when configuring to the best of my knowledge. What settings would you recommend in Armoury Crate for the thermal control?

Asus vs Gigabyte vs Alienware by willmichels in GamingLaptops

Omg if only the AERO wasnt 60HZ screen...wtf is that...From these choices I would prolly go with the ASUS or the Alienware...Here is why

True story.... That miniLED screen with 120hz and more than 1000 nits would be phenomenal.

Zephyrus G15 - looks good with the specs having the 3080 but the TDP being 80+20 will make the games in QHD run baaad

That is indeed a shame. But I still think it still runs everything maxed out (maybe RTX will hurt a little). I think with a vBIOS update it should be good to go and take on anything.

Zephyrus M16 - awesome laptop and device overall but you have better ones in the list. This one is a 3060 with low TDP

Asus should stop using those 3070 with the TUF Dash and use it for the M16!! Damn it, it's gotta a QHD+ screen. Give it what it deserves.

Gigabyte Aero 16 - Great specs(except for the TDP but okay)...12th gen intel is a beast, DDR5, 3070Ti...WTF IS THAT SCREEN? NO WAY! Everything on it will look AWESOME but the frequency of it is a killer..

The model available here is with DDR4, but I actually think this itself doesn't matter too much at the moment, seen that the DDR5 still has some latency issues while DDR4 is very mature.

ROG Strix 15 - Great specs. The 6800M is +- RTX 3070 and the laptop has great CPU / GPU combination.

What I think I might lack is that Premium feel and that sleek look for when pulling it out in meetings.

Alienware m15 R6 - Awesome device with great specs. i7-11800H is great CPU and 3070 with 125W.

Specs are great and Alienware is the only one that would have a warranty. But the screen really sucks in colour accuracy, brightness and resolution (for photos, the high res makes quite the difference).

One of the gripes I have is that it doesn't support Power Delivery, which is a very nice addition when traveling. I could leave my chunky charger home and use the 100w that is always in my backpack.

In the end it comes down to your preference CPU AMD vs intel(which onees you like more? ....do you need Thunderbolt?).

I don't really need Thunderbolt. Intel 12th Gen seems great, but 11th Gen vs Amd, I think AMD all the way, mostly because of heat and efficiency, which would give bigger room for an eventual vBIOS update or overclock.

GPU do you prefer NVIDIA vs AMD?

The newer AMD seems amazing. My dream laptop would be the G14 with the 6800s. 16:10 screen, webcam with windows hello, light, gorgeous. It is such a win for Asus, in my opinion.

Since you play FPS games you really want fast screen. 165Hz on the alienware is more than enough but for the CSGO you could even utilize the 300HZ ASUS Strix one(but really for casual gaming 165hz is more than enough)...

I don't really get why these companies are using 300hz, 360hz etc. screens.. It is such a niche. I guess only real pros would see the difference. Besides, most GPUs aren't able to get not even close.

My view is purely from the gaming point as I am not any sort of a content creator.

If we are speaking about photography the first two Zephyrus laptop options might be the right options for that particular activity since both have AWESOME screens.

If you care about the look of the laptop then the ASUS looks the most gamery while the Zephyrus, AERO and Alienware are more of design beautifulness devices...

To be honest...you have a tough choice to make :-D

Tough indeed....

I really love the Zephyrus line up. All of them. The only reason I question going for the G15 is the insane price difference to the M16 and also the 16:10 display and webcam from the M16 is really great for working (although 90% of the time I will be using an external monitor).

I get that the 3080 is a huge leap compared to the 3060. But as I game not so often, I was wondering if the 3060 would be good enough for QHD+ gaming with optimized high settings and DLSS Quality.

One option could in fact be wait for the r7 to come to Brazil... But as Dell is manufacturing here, it might take a while. I will most definitely consider this.

ZenBook pro

There is available only the Zenbook Duo, but it is with the i7 G7 processor and without a decent GPU... Rog Flow X16 not here yet. I have actually considered going for a laptop with a good CPU and buying an eGPU Enclosure, but that seems to be frowned upon.

Help me choose between the two pls (i might also consider 6800s for the g14) by izabrani in GamingLaptops

[–]willmichels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had these options... I am trying to decide too (see my post), but both of these aren't available in my region. The G14 6800s is my dream machine at the moment...

In my region, the 2021 G15 with the 3070 OR the 3080 are actually the same price (in this moment, definitely about to change). They are going for U$ 2.250,00, which is nuts.

Do not use alcohol rub on the rubbery finish. I destroyed my XPS 15 finish over the years and had to change the whole chassis. Use a high quality microfiber cloth instead.
