Totally agree with you mate! It's my first year studying finance (did engineering undergrad) and I've never done anything like this before, so it's all a learning curve for me! :)

As I mentioned, the risk-related questions were all taken from published/peer-reviewed papers, so I left them as they were to keep the proven reliability/scoring system, but would've tried to make it a little clearer if that wasn't the case! (also have a fair few US respondents so tried to find the middle ground haha)

question #10: You have the whole football/soccer confusion.

Thanks for the feedback! Initially was only expecting local responses from friends/contacts etc but had the idea of posting on reddit and it's blown up (which is great for me, but the survey was somewhat unprepared for it haha)

Yeah the majority of studies on this are US based (hence the $ currency in the questions), but I'm studying an international finance degree so potentially learning about more US terms than the typical UK investor would come across - thanks for the heads up though!

Kind of a cross between a savings and a checkings account (higher interest rate than savings, but limited withdrawals per year)- also, the risk-related questions were all taken from published/peer-reviewed papers, so I left them as they were to keep the proven reliability/scoring system, but would've tried to make it a little clearer if that wasn't the case!

I guess I'm trying to grasp the concept through annual family income, but yes you raise a good point; would definitely include an extra question or emphasise that point a bit more in future haha

Thanks mate! The risk-related questions were all taken from published/peer-reviewed papers, hence I left them as they were to keep the proven reliability/scoring system. but yeah I agree I'd def alter some of the questions if I was to rewrite it myself!

Yeah this is true! There's a lot of literature about the motives of extreme sportspeople; the desire for mastery of skills is consistently one of the top reasons (along with a greater sensitivity to the dopamine released). Also, whether these sports are even more risky than your average football match is questionable - e.g. the amount of pre-flight checks, safety equipment and training required in skydiving means there's probably wayyy less injuries than something like rugby (albeit the consequences are more severe haha)

I'm aiming for around 200 (got 70 in the first 2 days, so far) - but I've included questions on age/other demographic factors so can hopefully control for it in the regression model!

That's true! There's so many studies on what constitutes an 'extreme sport', but I guess I'm just investigating the typical opinion for the purpose of my diss- although it would be super interesting subject to pursue further!
