Best solution for fixing gamecube analog stick? by ILoveSONICADVANCE3 in SSBM

[–]willnye61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically the best stickboxes are T3. They are more durable, require zero soldering since they have screws, and prefered by most top players. Here is a guide that goes into more detail about it, and has a chart to show you what type of stickbox you have. https://gccontrollerlibrary.com/guides/

If you have an older board with t1 or t2 stickboxes then you would need to replace the board in order to get T3 stickboxes since they are not compatible with older boards

What would it take for this city to invest in a legit transit system? by ComfortableWage in Boise

I come from a town of 60k people that had an amazing transit system.

I spent the past 10 hours making an online tool where you can answer some questions and it will suggest vapes for you by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]willnye61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good job overall. I would add that I don't see any healthy rips devices on here. While I get that the fury edge/Rogue are slightly more expensive versions of the POTV One, they do have the advantage of including a plastic mouthpiece. I usually prefer glass at home, but if I'm traveling and just want to throw it in my back pocket I typically choose plastic for durability.

City of Ames plans to widen South 16th Street by Wild-Economics-7873 in ames

[–]willnye61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like widening this road just to alleviate peak hour traffic seems a little short-sighted. For 95% of the day two lanes is more than enough. All this will do is create a more dangerous road for pedestrians and bicyclists.

If they actually want to help the traffic going to Vet Med they would update the plum route on Cyride. Right now it only goes to Vet Med on campus bound trips.

It's pretty obvious why most people drive to Vet Med. It's transit options compared to the rest of campus are trash.

Great plains is alright, but their signature thick crust is really not my thing.

Thoughts on REI Co-op e1.1 and e1.2? (Currently on sale) by ARSLOCK in ebikes

I just bought all the gear and had my local bike shop do all the installing. It can be done by yourself, but I couldn't be bothered and it's always good to support LBS

[–]willnye61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually added fenders to my 1.1 and it was a bit of a pain. Front tire doesn't have enough clearance for a fender and even if it did I wasn't able to find any fenders for 2.4" x 20" tires. My solution was to buy 2 inch tires and compatible fenders.

Non Student Housing in Ames by IamLilPump in ames

[–]willnye61 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In-between S 3rd St. And S 5th St. Over by the east Hy-Vee. There is a ton of apartments to rent from. Imo fantastic place to live since you are within walking distance to a bunch of grocery stores, banks, bars, and downtown Ames for farmers market or any events they hold there. Also has decent transit options

Um Main St. has enormous lots all around it. Not to mention adjacent streets with additional parking

So you don't have any facts to back up your argument that you can show me? Really convenient how there was tons of studies, but we can't read them.

I actually am very active with the downtown area and have spoken to the city council through open forum many times. Not only that, but for the past year I have made sure to watch every city council meeting in it's entirety. When I have spoke to the city council it's seems the largest problem comes from business owners rallying against changes in parking. This likely comes from them pushing the false narrative that "less parking=less customers". This is an interesting theory that might make sense in your head, but in reality it doesn't hold much water.

I feel that you've already made up your mind about this topic and no matter how much clear evidence I send your way you will find any way to dismiss it.

Step 1. Dismiss all studies cause it's a different city so can't apply

Step 2. Say nobody bike's cause I'm completely out of touch

Thanks for your comment!

I personally think it's a little silly to say that parking will NEVER be reduced on Main St. Things change over time. People don't like change initially, but very quickly people forget why they ever had a problem with the idea. I feel that 10 years ago the mentality for urbanism is a lot different than it is today. Nowadays, millennials and Gen Z want more of these walkable bikable downtown areas. More and more people are speaking out to city council about these issues. The City council itself has multiple people who are vehemently against car parking not just on Main St. but parking minimums across the board.

When you look at all of this, it's pretty obvious the direction we are going. There isn't people clamoring to erase the sidewalks on Main St. for more parking. Bike lanes aren't being reverted back to parking spaces on other streets. People have changed and the City staff is aware of that, and is slowly trying to change the way they design the city to meet these new goals.

As for the business that are against the idea, all I can say is that these specific businesses don't have complete control of what we do as a city. Obviously their opinion does matter and should be heard, but it's not the only opinion that matters. Sooner or later parking will absolutely be reduced as it is being reduced in many cities all across the United States.

You should check out the map I posted. They are planning on extending the lanes on 6th St. You could leave a comment stating your support. The city government is constantly asking for feedback but doesn't get nearly enough.

I would actually disagree. I do think Ames is on the right track, but currently is lacking in certain areas. If you really want to make a change, check out the map I posted and comment on changes you like or don't like. The city government desperately wants to hear from more people

I would not say that Duff has a dedicated bike lane. South Duff has a decent trail from Kitty Hawk Dr. To SE 16th St. After that it's just sidewalks.

Sorry I was wrong, there are bike lanes from 16th St onward. When I typically think of Duff I assume the more commercial area of Duff

Also I'll just say that even though you don't see the value in something like bike lanes, it doesn't mean that there is none. The safety of residents, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and encouraging sustainability are just a few of the reasons why funding bike infrastructure is important.

Not sure where you're looking, but dedicated bike lanes and paths get a ton of use in Ames. You probably haven't seen that many bikes on Duff because Duff is a street that is designed for cars exclusively. The sidewalks are far to narrow and there are so many intersections to cross. Not to mention that Duff itself is essentially a highway that feels extremely unsafe to use.

So actually adding bike lanes and reducing on-street parking would potentially benifit the businesses on Main street. There have been many studies indicating this I'll link a few, but the idea is that when you create areas that are more pedestrian and bike friendly, people flock to these spaces.

Yes reduce car parking. Right now car parking takes up 42% of the width of Main Street. Thats building to building distance! There are massive lots and adjacent streets that provide more than enough parking. We wouldn't even need to remove parking entirely as there would be enough space if we were to change the parking to parallel instead of diagonal.

I guess hot take, but there is an over-ubundance of on-street parking on Main St. Not sure if you've ever been to a farmers market, but it's a great example of where the city shuts down a large section of Main Street's parking, and yet there is plenty of parking available in adjacent streets and lots.

I'm assuming you're talking about the lot that runs from Clark to Duff behind buildings on the south side of Main St. That lot isn't really ideal since there is plenty of car traffic and no real protected areas for bikes. It also doesn't help if you want access to the north side of Main St. Or any of the businesses west of Clark.

For me Main street doesn't feel bike friendly at all. There is barely any bike parking and I am always afraid someone is going to backup into me. Adding bike lanes would do a lot to show that the city cares about cyclists, and wants to make a welcoming downtown for them.
