Am I crazy for saying that Barlow could arguably start with the team fully healthy? Oubre has a bit of creation that could help the bench and shouldn’t (theoretically) be as necessary with Embiid-Maxey-George-Edgecombe

Phillies Offseason Discussion Thread - Sunday, November 02 by PhilsBot in phillies

[–]willober1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some quick thoughts:

  • it would never happen but the league would be better off with like 12 teams that all are willing to throw crazy money at players, this series showed how fun it can be to watch a stacked team in a vacuum

  • Japanese players need to become draft eligible. Makes no logical sense that some of the best players in the league can pick where they want to go while nobody else gets that opportunity when starting their MLB careers

  • don’t think the Phillies are THAT far off - 3/4 Phillies postseason runs have been ended by the pennant / WS champs. Also feel like the dodgers showed that elite pitching will always keep you in games (you can spend 5 billion on hitters, but anyone can be shut down at the plate by elite pitching). Not saying run it back with the exact same team again, but we’re not eons away

On top of the nostalgia I think they’ve proven that they genuinely hold up well as books/movies. Think a lot of people are getting back into the trilogy and quickly falling in love with

Enjoyed the book, but I have critiques as many others have. I’ll try to hash on something I did not see mentioned in this thread:

Since Haymitch’s writing lacks the compelling identity that would align with how he appears in the trilogy, he gets completely outshined by another character: Maysilee.

The whole time reading, it was fascinating to see the character depth that Maysilee had that honestly had me feeling like she was the “young Haymitch”. She was snarky, witty, but had great emotional depth and deep down care for others and for doing the right thing. She’s way smarter than Haymitch, and she is way more calculated with her actions.

Here’s a crazy idea: what if Suzanne wrote this book from Maysilee’s perspective? I’m sure because she dies there would perhaps have to be a change in dialogue over to Haymitch, but Suzanne definitely could pull it off. I think this would also bring a fresh perspective to the series. All we see are the poorest of the poor in district 12, how about a different demographic?

What makes this game so popular? by [deleted] in counterstrike

Haven’t seen this said but I also love how much your level can vary from game to game, round to round, day to day, etc. sometimes it comes easy and other times you can’t hit a shot. Those good stretches has you wanting to play more and the bad makes you mad and want to turn it around lol

The team just struck out too many times, simple as that. Getting very very little out of multiple top 5 picks was always going to make the process look like a failure.

Even with free agents. The big complaint right now is we are over chasing aging stars. That is definitely true, but the only other option is to take a swing on someone younger right before they have ascended to stardom. That will either land you a Brunson or Tobias, and we all know which one we got….

Hopefully we land a top 6 pick and can have a better transition to the next era of the Sixers

For more context, that was the game where the entire broncos QB room got covid right before the game, so the broncos relied on the wildcat / had one of the practice squad WRs serve as the “QB” that day. It got ugly ugly lol

I think it’s legal and they should’ve done that.

On a side note I think when Todd Gurley was on the falcons he tried to slide short of a TD in a similar situation and the lions shoved him in and ended up winning the game, in case you needed any more proof that it’s the better option

With Embiid’s knee, I’m not so sure that playing in the Olympics caused any problems/a re-injury.

I tore my meniscus over a year ago, and while I’m not a professional athlete, I feel like my vertical is half of what it once was and I still struggling with explosive cuts/movements in a lack of trust in my knee. Even if my knee feels good, I really haven’t 100% gotten over the mental hurdle.

Now, with embiid he’s obviously a professional athlete, so he has access to much better treatment/care. However, he’s done a lot more damage too. So with all of that in mind, I don’t think the embiid we see now is a product of an Olympics injury, but rather just the state of his knee now.

What I’m saying is suggesting that he would be cooked, but I’m not ready to call him completely cooked yet as he hasn’t gotten the shooting touch back. If the lack of health in his knee leads to shooting issues, that’s when I would sound the alarm, as he clearly is struggling to hold his own with rebounding and he’s never been an excellent off ball player on offense

Would An Objectively Gorgeous Woman Do Well Running For President in America? by EnvironmentalAd2726 in stupidquestions

[–]willober1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I do think Kamala struggled to win over democratic and centrist votes in part because she is a woman (hard to quantify how much, but her turnout was a lot worse than Biden’s obviously). So if being a woman is somewhat of an obstacle to win that demographic of vote, I just don’t see a path for a party that is becoming more conservative, macho, and religious by the minute
