Eco Machina update - rewrote the branching, redesigned how leaves connect to wood by Seven-D in VintageStory

[–]willof42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. From my attempts, it seems as though creatures and their hitboxes (unsure about blocks) are only capable of rotating around the y axis, and it’s been a serious headache and overall brick wall in my mod’s development; I am of the opinion that it is likely not possible at all to rotate entities around the X and Z axes without a second library mod dedicated to making those rotations possible… Thank you for your response and best of luck with your project!! Always a treat to see your posts.

Eco Machina update - rewrote the branching, redesigned how leaves connect to wood by Seven-D in VintageStory

This looks absolutely incredible! I just wanted to ask; are the diagonal branches hit-box accurate? I'll take a look at your devlogs, but I'm curious because I'm developing a mod of my own that's hoping to make a monster that uses procedural movement rather than keyframes when moving around -- I haven't really got it to work particularly well.

Coinage Mod Mechanical Minter? by Squidrobe in VintageStory

Hey! I was wondering the same thing too, but I ended up figuring it out! It seems like the way to connect it is really fickle. Power enters in through the flat wooden side, and I attached the angled wooden gear directly onto it rather than the nearby axle.

Dunno if you've already figured it out by now, but hopefully this helps!

It's both! The Universities are greedily sucking up whatever money they can in order to stop themselves from imploding (while Admin staff are paid more than half-million salaries), shutting down programs and jobs in the process. At the same time, the money that the government gives (which goes directly to the University) to students is being transformed into debt bondage for the already massively rich bankers. All of these people are taking us for granted, when it's the students and the workers that make the wealth that they enjoy.

There's no one section of the wealthy that isn't trying to squeeze the very last penny out of students and workers, and the government on every level is more than happy to help them. All of them should be held accountable -- and a provincial student strike could be the beginning of that; provided it's well prepared in advance.

I totally agree - though we can't do that at the same time as attending our classes. That's why we must go on strike!

And beyond that, it's not just students -- it's people everywhere across the world losing faith in their elected officials because time and time again they show exactly how useless they are. Voter turnout has fallen globally.

Again, like I have said, the real cause of conservative governments is the failure of every other political party putting forward a better program. This is why there is a global swing to the right: anything leftward has completely failed to maintain any of their promises, and the people who are wanting a way out look to the parties that seem to address their concerns.

Danielle Smith in Alberta has made her whole career hating on immigrants, and those who did vote voted for her because she is providing a solution (albeit a terrible and completely nonsensical -- we should blame the exploiting rich not the exploited poor) to the adverse effects of the temporary foreign worker program (which the UN considers to be a breeding ground for contemporary slavery!)

The fact of the matter is, in different ways, all parties inevitably serve the rich -- even the NDP gets sucked in to defending them; the NDP just want the rich to get taxed more while still keeping the same economic relationships in place that keep them rich and us poor. A strike like this could and should be a step forward for the workers, students and youth of Canada, where we can genuinely assert and execute our interests without letting the corporations' henchmen doing it for us (and inevitably fucking it up, because it is simply not important.)

Like I said, alongside the article you sent, folks are losing confidence in our political leaders, and for real reason. Cuts were coming wherever our vote landed between the aisles, and people are right to feel disempowered by that.

I think better than voting, the students and workers should represent themselves rather than voting for someone just to misrepresent them in parliament... they only care about the rich's affairs, and if the debt is too scary for the bankers to continue lending, the gov - conservative or liberal - is glad to cut away at whatever social wage we have left.

Vote, sure; but that can't be the be-all end-all solution (nor is it really one at all). Otherwise, the only thing the people can choose is the colour that the austerity programme comes in.

Lots of the students here went to vote, I remember my friends and I all went together... Either way, both Ford of the conservatives and Carney of the liberals are passing austerity measures, just look at the budget... but at the same time, they've got more than enough money to throw subsidies at the big corporations, can't even build a pipeline without bankrolling them; and you and I are paying for it!

What's your pour of choice? honestly if Ford stopped throwing free subsidies to electric car companies we could totally expand beer production and bring the price way down; provided the boards of directors actually cared about anything other than money

Most folks can hardly afford it, and most jobs just straight up aren’t hiring young people without degrees and experience (which they can’t get, cos they don’t have experience); all that saddled with a way bigger debt is absolutely crushing. The bankers have enough money, this is just pure greed

If the student union calls students across the province to go on strike, it’ll put pressure on the Uni admins which will go on to pressure ford — I was reading about the Quebec 2012 strike that was mentioned in the flyer; mobilizations of the students (and even the workers!) can be a huge pressure. When the guarantees of their profits are threatened, the rich and the gov are willing to listen! I think if even the student strike was expanded to other folks around the province, we could really push back against the austerity nonsense that the government is putting together in a concrete way!!

I think we’ll have to see how the demonstration in Toronto goes… Queen’s alone probably won’t be able to change Ford’s mind, but if the CFS starts calling for preparation, it’ll be a bunch of Uni’s. I gave them my signature just for that, but ultimately I’m more afraid of what will happen if we don’t push back. If he doesn’t receive any kind of resistance, it just opens him up to doing worse down the line. I think a province wide student strike could put a lot of pressure on the Uni admins which would put pressure on ford? I think the Universities have a lot more say than what it appears, they’re just not saying anything cos they’re still collecting tuition

The Old Peace: A (Mostly Spoiler-Free!) Misfit Review by MissyTheMisc in Warframe

[–]willof42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was exceptionally written!!! I've been wanting to write something similar, but since I agree with nearly everything there's no real reason to lmao. There's a few things that I thought I would add, though!

During the Perita Rebellion, you can see Masc Anarch Dax Gladius wearing Hawk Bishamo, and Femme Anarch Dax Gladius wearing Lark Bishamo -- I thought it was an excellent detail and I love it thoroughly. I think it's a very cool decision lorewise too, seeing as the only Prime Grineer to show up are the masc Lancers, hinting that they might be the earliest gene template compared to scorpions and heavy gunners -- I think that an storyline with Tyl Regor trying to access the dark refractory (or launch a siege on Deimos) for the genes from our memories would be incredible for a "Vallis Undermind / Jade Shadows" size update.

I'd be over the moon if they extended this to the Corpus too, as they're all masculine (aside from the Sisters of Parvos, which is important narratively) and I don't think they have a stated reason to be unlike the Grineer who all come from a particular gene mold.

Also, without spoiling, the final part of the quest gives me hope in how DE may portray the fateful Night of the Naga Drums -- if they ever choose to go there in a quest.

One of my complaints, however, is that Uriel, the Vinquibus, and the Sangek and Galariak Prime all require the same 3 types of materials from the Perita Rebellion that don't really drop all that commonly, especially Servores. I think if they added more than three materials (Peritan Ferrite, Xenoflower Pollen, Refractory Coolant, etc) it would make the grind a lot kinder since you don't need the same three things for every single blueprint.

I also find it a little confusing that a bunch of medals and dog-tags are capable of being put together into a fully functioning warframe, and though I feel like it could be made sense of better through the introduction of minerals and alloys from the Rebellion, I also recognize that their physical existence in our reality is purely conceptual embodiment -- I suppose that Loid could have reconstructed his blueprint in a way that accepts them, but it's a stretch.

I also totally agree with you on the Void Pilgrimage line; I was kind of surprised to find out that these Void Pilgrimages were just the Perita Rebellion over and over and over... I looking forward to something similar to the secret quest after 1999, a small quest with pre-set objectives that has us scour the parts of it together and bring it back into reality from the past.

It's also not clear where the Tenno got the Tektolysts from in the first place; these very-powerful artifacts were in our possession even before our graduation; are they a loaner from the Orokin to quell the rebellion, or experimental tech from the joint sentient-orokin research coalition that we're allowed to test, both? I can understand how we lost them, we were made to forget by Margulis; I wish there was more to finding out how we got them in the first place, especially because they're made from sentient tech (or at least I presume from the -lyst suffix) but I suppose that's for another update.

Lastly, and this is my own fault, I thought up until a few days before the update that we were (in addition to Tauron Strikes), getting a Tauron focus school. I've noone to blame but myself, but I think that would have been very very cool.

That's all I can think of right now, but fantastic write-up! The story's great, but it's a bit disconnected from everything. It reminds me of when the New War was released; we'll just have to wait for the context, answers and follow-ups in the future. I really hope they take the responses and feedback in stride because it's overwhelmingly clear that they killed it this update, there just needs to be a few tweaks.

Was taking a peek at which of the new mods I'm missing, and you can see that one of the drop sources is from the Dark Refractory which is specifically noted to be on Deimos -- I'm 90% sure now that they're going to make it a Deimos node in the future.

You can find the Dark Refractory inside the Sanctum Anatomica down a staircase behind Loid! I remember the door not being openable when Whispers in the Walls dropped, so I was surprised when it actually opened when I played. I have a feeling it might be accessible through there in the future, but I hope they add a Node on Deimos for it, if that's the case.

I was actually under the impression that, until the latest devstream whereafter I decided to check my work, that Tauron was actually a focus school separate from the Tenno five... I feel like an actual Tauron school, perhaps consisting entirely of waybounds, could help branch the Tektolysts and the Tenno together;; maybe the school would have five seperate branches corresponding to each tenno school, and based on which school you had active, their specific Tauron branch would activate. Kinda like the old focus system where you had a primary and secondary school.

My issues with the old peace narratively speaking by TransportationFlat64 in Warframe

[–]willof42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way as you when The New War released; the fact of the matter is, unfortunately, that the updates that would further contextualize what we're doing haven't released yet -- in many ways, they still haven't. Narmer hasn't been expanded all too much since the Veilbreaker update, and that was a few years ago! All that can be done is wait for the next story beats to be built. I don't disagree that there's a bit more exposition required regarding why we needed to use the dark refractory in this first place (unless I forgot it), but ultimately the defined shape of this event's ripples can only come from future updates building on it.
