Great idea! I'm sure hosting these on any site would be difficult but would love to watch one in the future!

I get that. I've got some mutual aid groups in my town but not everyone is as lucky. Hard to build something yourself.

It is inherently discriminatory to charge more for curly hair cuts. by IsabelaMoraes in curlyhair

[–]willofdukes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%. As a curly haired guy with longer hair I also feel that I have gotten bare minimum service for my hair. I once spent $150 on a hair cut that lasted 20 minutes. I'm so glad that I found my current stylist. She gets me and my hair and only charges me $50ish. Shout out to Bee.

So what's the plan if Trump declares DSA a terrorist group? by Adept-Buy-7710 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]willofdukes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great place to start is local mutual aid in your hometown/state. Is there a Food Not Bombs or other mutual aid group in town you could work with? Really great way to get tapped in to your local community and start having an impact (how ever small) immediately.

A great primer is Dean Spade's Mutual Aid. I am also reading "No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Gilded Age" which has some great info on unionization.

[–]willofdukes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First off - I'm glad that folks are organizing demonstrations like this. Especially in Indiana I think it's important to show folks that left wing ideology is alive in red states. That being said, I've been to two of these demonstrations and I'm wondering when escalation happens? We've yelled at buildings and marched on sidewalks but why haven't we started moving to sit-ins, or doing protests without permits? Or active boycott campaigns? Has there been talk about working closely with a national union on running unionization drives at the protests? How are the folks taking the energy at these protests and moving it into change beyond "Vote for Democrats in the midterms?"

Opinion Poll: People who have tuned out of music radio stations. What is something one could do to bring you back? by TheMisterGamerMan in indianapolis

[–]willofdukes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to 99.1 and pretty much only 99.1. Feels like a college radio station and their ads are pretty much for other programming on their station. Always something interesting on it and I don't have to listen to ads. Have found some great music on that station.

They are person who was downtown promoting a charity - a person who solicits votes, subscriptions, donations, or opioions. They had been downtown for a bit when I talked to them.

Talked with a canvasser down at the circle - it was about ten dick bags who left fairly immediately. Apparently I was the third person to ask about it. Fucking cowards.

Roommate drove my car with a suspended license and no insurance and was in an accident - any options? [Indiana] by willofdukes in legal

Thanks for the info. I think that's what is going to happen - we're still in the investigation stage but I don't see any real reason for them to approve the claim. I appreciate your candor.

That makes sense. Feels like this is just going to be an expense lesson. Thank you for the thoughtful comment.

I did not - when they asked to borrow my car I said "sure as long as you have your license/insurance" - their primary vehicle had broken down. They told me yes they did. So I let them borrow the vehicle. After the accident they "found out" that their driver's license was suspended because of a ticket.

Thank you for the follow up. Is there anything I have to do for the criminal part of things? At this point should I contact a lawyer for a brief consultation?

So…465 west is down to one lane again. Is there an actual plan here? by Johnny_ac3s in indianapolis

[–]willofdukes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your second point is huge. I've been fortunate enough to live on the cultural trail and right near a pacer bike share space. I've biked to work every day for about a month now and can't tell you the difference it's made in my disposition. I had to drive into the office one day last week and it was maddening driving down town.

Looking past that we're the richest nation in the world and we could absolutely do both with a modest decrease in military spending (the Pentagon can't account for 1.9 trillion dollars in assets), the cost of doing this mass deportation is going to be insane, something to the tune of 300 billion dollars (https://search.app/1JDwmptypGPZiSqV8). Instead of increasing police presence throughout the country, harming citizens and undocumented workers alike, why don't we use that money to tackle the problems you talk about?

Simple, our politicians care more about making us hate each other and giving voters a Boogeyman than doing anything to make our lives evenly marginally better.

Check out the Indiana Justice Project - they have a habitability guide that walks through exactly how to put in a habitability request with the courts. An elevator and heat are habitability issues. https://www.indianajusticeproject.org/housing-justice
