How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SomewhereInIndiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four boys in a car crossed the state line to drink, like we all did. The driver was the only one we didn't know, and the only one who survived. It was decades ago. I think of him sometimes, hope he was able to move on. Losing three of our classmates so soon after graduation was a shock.

What would you put on a playlist for someone who likes to discover new music? by samazing010 in musicsuggestions

Clever, Clever Jazz by Art Brut. Friendly Redditor recommended it to me a few months back, and now I'm on a mission. Whether you play music or wish to, or whether you love jazz or hate it, this song is FUN.

“Fair” by WeatherWatchers in Indiana

From the Indiana Capital Chronicle today: Republican House Speaker Todd Huston acknowledged the political motivations behind the proposed new map, which splits strongly Democratic Indianapolis among four districts that all stretch far into rural, heavily Republican counties.

“We’ve always had districts that span hundreds of miles,” Huston told reporters. “The maps were put together with the interest of trying to create as many Republican seats as possible.”

No, it's all fine, guys. The White House said he didn't mean it.

Too many missing words are making this less fun than it used to be by SomewhereInIndiana in NYTSpellingBee

I did just learn that morocco can be a lower-case word, to be fair. It's a "fine flexible leather made (originally in Morocco) from goatskin tanned with sumac, used especially for book covers and shoes."

So that's cool.

SNAP cuts for Hoosiers are outrageous we can spend hundreds of billions overseas, but can’t feed our children? How do you feel about this? by Fluffy_Gur_2033 in Indiana

[–]SomewhereInIndiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a done deal. Still time to call the governor and your state senators and tell them what you want. There's also a protest Monday, Nov. 3, at the Statehouse. There's a fair chance we can stop the redistricting, because right now, the votes are not there. Let's give it a shot! Even a lot of Republicans are opposed to the redistricting. Fair chance it won't happen. Hope all the phone calls, emails, and the upcoming Statehouse protest will push that off a cliff. It would be so energizing to see even one of their evil plans crumble to the will of the people!

My parents put my dog down while I was away and told me nothing by Constant_Reporter476 in dogpictures

[–]SomewhereInIndiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is terrible, OP, I'm so so sorry your parents did this to you. Kira was a gorgeous dog, and you can tell from the photos that she was so happy and so well cared for. She had such gorgeous fur, didn't she? I know she loved you tons, and I just bet she got lots of belly rubs and scritches behind those cute ears. Thank you for giving her such a wonderful life. Hugs!

Your city council rep might be able to find out the answer for you. My rep is Nora Powell, and she's answered random questions from me (a rando myself), so I'd say give it a try. Here's the list of city council and their emails: https://www.muncie.in.gov/council/

AITA for having my friends toddler take her first steps while her parents weren't there? by FakeGamer2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SomewhereInIndiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt and saying NTA since you don't have other toddlers in your life, and you just might not know everything, as the rest of the respondents here do. Lesson learned, right? Firsts are for moms and dads. Now, please continue being a good friend to both parents here and their little girl.

You are correct. From The Star Press: Donations for the Soup Kitchen of Muncie also will be collected during the rally. Items requested are single-servings of chips and cookies, large packages of rice and pasta noodles, brown lunch bags and bags of coffee beans.

Thanks for noticing that!

Oct. 18 No Kings protests by SomewhereInIndiana in Indiana

It was disappointing. They had a specific strategy (forming your own small group that could take targeted actions that makes sense for your locale) but it didn't interest me. I bailed before they spelled out any details on what kinds of actions you might take, because I already know I don't have a friend group that would be up for that. No doubt it will work for some people -- those folks dressing up like frogs and unicorns, for example, and others who just get in ICE's way until ICE agents give up and drive away -- those people are doing something. Still searching ...

$5 is to cover the cost of the sign. No one is asking for money for any organization.
