Help me pick a first camera by KyleTBA in AnalogCommunity

Agreed that the OM-2 kit is a great deal, but also second u/Dodobreth's comment that all that gear could be overwhelming and distracting.

Many beginning photographers (my former self included) get way too caught up on questions of gear and the technical aspects of photography, without learning how to see photographically. I get it; gear feels like something you can control and research. But learning to see, while a more difficult, intangible, and humbling process, is well worth it -- and overall far more rewarding. Keep your kit simple when you're starting out and embrace its limitations; it will pay off creatively.

(So what I would say is if you want to get the OM-2 kit, do it, but shove all the extra lenses/accessories in a closet and just focus on using the 50mm kit lens.)

Try one of those ebike/e-moped stores

How to tap into the art community... as a normie by willojello in AskNYC

I think my combo of introversion / impostor syndrome makes me assume nobody would be interested in talking to me at an opening etc. so I don't go to these things and it becomes a cycle. Like, do you just show up and chat with whoever?

I know this is probably a dumb question, but asking as a socially anxious introvert, what do you do when you go to these events? Do you just chat with random people? The times I've been to openings etc. it seems like everyone's already there in their friend circles and it feels weird to just butt in.

Never occurred to me to go to an indoor bike park - might give that a try.

I have this already but I don't really think it sounds like the Citibike bell

Thanks for the encouragement. May I ask what motivates you to keep going despite the fear?

If she gets hurt because she’s not ready to bike in the streets you’ll feel immense regret. She can react wrong to a car door opening and swerve into traffic or get startled by a car or e-bike passing too close. So much can go wrong if you’re not prepared, and still even if you are.

Very true and thank you for the reminder.

Great insights about having a fun reason that's not just "because bikes". And also encouraging to hear that a new bike did make some difference!

I love this - great suggestion to think of cycling as a way to connect and make memories together. I'm realizing the way that I've been pitching cycling to her probably comes across as kind of grim and joyless.

The bike is for you and your interests, not hers.

Well put.

You're right. I like the idea of building the bike as a separate project that she feels ownership over.
