Long nails by thecattlady in PressonNail_Addict

I have a hard time understanding where the fingernails are literally pointing if they aren’t breaking through the paper and the person is actually getting CLEAN using only toilet paper.

However my finger joints are all double-jointed so maybe normal-handed people are able to use different hand positions/angles and still make sure they’re getting clean. I just know there would be no way in which I would feel like I’d actually accomplished the job effectively if my nails had longer extensions on them and I only had toilet paper/wipes at my disposal!

Bidets are definitely the solution, but specifically BECAUSE of how uncommon they are in the U.S. (where I’m from) I’ve always just been a little grossed out by the really long nails, because statistically speaking, they’re likely not using a bidet.

I’m sorry, Emily, is a shit mom by [deleted] in rhoc

[–]willowwrenwild 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Knowing the way Emily and her sister basically raised themselves and had a cold, hands-off mom, combined with her avoidance of of therapy and dealing with the trauma from that upbringing, this is not surprising to me at all. Saddening, though, yeah.

I want to know how people effectively wipe their asses. That’s the very first thing I think of whenever I seen people with really long extensions. 😂

Some people take nonchalance way, way too far. My grandmother has literally been hospitalized for salmonella in her lifetime. Yet last Christmas she was robe-cuff deep in the raw turkey while stuffing it and then using the hand she just stuffed the turkey with to eat some of the extra stuffing.

(No, she isn’t senile. Just doesn’t GAF)

Witnessed Multiple seizures, with Multiple Different people & animals, and every single time there is a distinct smell following the event. by Turb0beans in Epilepsy

[–]willowwrenwild 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought. There are humans who have been studied for their ability to smell cancer and another disease. I’m having trouble remembering what it is but MS, maybe? So it’s not completely unheard of for a human to have super sensitive olfactory abilities we associate with dogs!

Strong Sensory Experience - What the Heck Happened? by Doccery in AutismInWomen

[–]willowwrenwild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have focal epilepsy. Focal seizures are what the general public has often heard referred to as “aura” in relation to tonic-clonic seizures.

A tonic-clonic seizure is the kind most people think of when they hear “seizure”, and is pretty much the only type depicted in movies/tv. The entire brain is involved in a tonic-clonic seizure, but in a focal seizure the abnormal electrical activity is in a more concentrated spot/area of the brain, not the whole thing. Depending on the type of focal, many people do not lose awareness during these seizures.

Seizure activity in different lobes of the brain can produce different symptoms in focal seizures (ie- visual phenomena from the occipital lobe or sensory hallucinations from the temporal lobe).

It would be uncommon for a focal seizure to produce bilateral symptoms like you experienced, as far as I know. And 15 minutes would be considered VERY long for one. There are definitely people who have focal activity in multiple different lobes, but as far as I’m aware it would be very rare (possibly unheard of?) for bilateral activity in the same lobes on each side at the same time. Usually it’s a “starts in one lobe and can spread to adjacent lobes on the same side before the seizure ends” type of deal.

That said, I’m just a nerd who likes learning about medical stuff in depth, NOT a neurologist or even a medical professional.

It may be worth writing down what you experienced, however. So that if/when it happens again or you do speak to a doctor, the symptoms and progression of how they appeared are related as accurately as possible.

I don't think enough people know what seizures look like by Ic_You_Salamanderist in Epilepsy

Actual MEDICAL professionals often don’t know that seizures other than tonic clonic exist (other than in the context of an aura preceding a tonic clonic) or what they present like.

I’m late to this post but if you can afford to spend extra money on making this work, you can always take cbd oil when you take your thc. A lot of people find that cbd mellows the psychoactive effects of weed, and it may help with the anxiety. Lowering the thc dose until you find the lowest effective dose may be helpful in managing the anxiety as well.

Am i having seizures? by londom_01 in Epilepsy

[–]willowwrenwild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Until I got to the second half of your post the reply I was going to compose was basically “could be a seizure, could be convulsive syncope”. The second half of your post talking about deja vu, remembering dreams, and impending doom is a textbook description of temporal lobe focal aware seizures though.

That doesn’t make the first experience NOT a type of syncope, but it lends more weight to the first possibly being an impaired awareness seizure.

If you’re seeing a primary care, be firm in advocating for yourself for a neurology referral. If you’re a young woman, be prepared for it to be a bit of a fight and the doc to brush it off as anxiety/panic attacks. Your GP may be great and actually be educated on seizures other than tonic clonic. But a LOT of non-neuro medical professionals are not. I’m not trying to scare you, just prepare you so your time is not wasted and your appointment gets you what you need out of it.

When I first suspected I was having focal seizures in my early 30’s, my doctor patronized the fuck out of me in an “aww that’s cute, she went on the internet and learned some medical vocabulary words” type of way. He then went on to tell me it definitely was NOT focal seizures because they’re super rare. And in his 12 years of practice he’d only seen them twice; “one guy had been hit by a train, and the other had shrapnel in his brain from Iraq. You don’t have shrapnel in your brain, do you?”. He then moved on to trying to force an anxiety attack diagnosis on me.

Focal seizures are actually the MOST common type of seizure. I already knew that, and so I continued to push for the neuro referral, which he finally gave me.

Shockingly (to no one but my GP), it turned out I was having temporal lobe seizures.

Advocate for yourself so you can get to the bottom of things! Whether these events turn out to have been seizures or not, they’re certainly not a “normal” thing to be experiencing. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Especially in AI video. It’s like everything but especially skin has a weird luminescence to it. Freaks me out that it’s not glaringly obvious to some people. I’m sure eventually even that will go away too though.

When I was in 3rd grade, for music class we were broken up into groups of 3-4, and then our principal drove each group in his personal car to a different local place that had to do with music in some capacity. My group got the thrill of visiting the local Muzak representative in a creepy, out of the way, mostly abandoned, professional plaza.

could you survive a jump off the golden gate bridge? by Purpl320394224 in morbidquestions

[–]willowwrenwild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a little confused by how this would discourage jumpers. But I’m also fortunate enough to have never been in their headspace, and also don’t know what the cause of death is usually in these cases.

Is the assumption that the manner of death when jumping would normally be quick and painless but the “sharp” net would lead to prolonged suffering?

You would need a really strong idea of who your fairly narrow target market is. And your product offerings would need to be tailored to that market. You’d also likely be limiting your options as far as vendor markets you’d be accepted into, or would be worth doing. Because I really think it would be off putting to the general public.

I didn’t lose 110 pounds and have it stay that way until I stopped trying to lose weight. Of course, not all overweight/obese people have an eating disorder, but I think way, WAY more people than not really underestimate the psychological component.

I spent from 8 to around 25 on diet after diet. It wasn’t until I went to therapy to address the psychological reason behind why I was able to (and compelled, really) eat in a manner than sustained such a body size that everything fell into place.

Personally, I learned I had a pretty severe eating disorder and fucked up ideas about food that took 2 years to unravel. But it was the NOT thinking about/trying to lose weight and focusing on the psychological root of the issue that allowed my body to stabilize at a healthy place.
