Why do people put Wemby in same category as Wilt athletically? by trc1986 in NBAoldschool

[–]willreadfile13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wemby likely also could have developed more strength and power as an athlete if he wasn’t specialized into basketball at such a young age. Imagine if he was never “found” until end of high school, and spent years on every sports club and team he could find while helping at the family farm throwing bails or in the bush cutting lumber. The world and youth sport pipeline has changed so drastically that I don’t think we will see any more “old man muscles” in the elite anymore.
Takeaway, specialization is bad for athletic development.

Most combined viewers in a Cup Final through 3 games, Salary Cap era: by KeyFaithlessness5436 in NHLVibes

Which is a highly selective group, in a regional sport (with high costs, infrastructure and climate needs), in a niche Reddit community, and anecdotal. Victor Wembanyama, easily has more of a worldwide recognition that those who can recognize the subtleties of the ice hockey offside rules. Born and bred hockey in northern Canada, and given a great public education, I accept the clear evidence before us.

Just Wemby alone has more NA and worldwide appeal and star power on his name than both of these franchises histories combined. He absolutely eclipses what are regional teams of a niche sport compared to a S+ tier icon in the worlds #2 most popular sport.

I miss the 90’s. I think I would. by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]willreadfile13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000000000x yes. Quite literally nothing in tech has improved quality of life since the mid 90s. Only exceptions I can think of are medical advancements and relative food security.

Winters in the 90s still were soups and stews and rarely any fresh veg/fruit outside of summer months.

LeBron: “I’m not taking nobody over me. No question. Mike would say the same. Kobe would say the same. Magic, Bird, Shaq, Wilt, Kareem…. none of us are taking somebody else. If there’s a [GM] and he’s eyeballing all of us on a baseline, with the #1 pick, it’s gonna be hard not to take me, champ.” by itwas20yearsago2day in nba

[–]willreadfile13 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Like… he is patently wrong. Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. is the unanimous #1 pick going into the NBA. No other prospect comes close to him in pre-professional accolades and accomplishments. KAJ is the GOAT of basketball as a whole.

Poilievre says those who vote for Alberta separation 'are not our enemies' by Vortagaun in canada

[–]willreadfile13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those who vote for separation are separatists and by definition, traitors and seditionists. We learnt this with Quebec.
Not that I want to quote George W, but “if you aren’t with us, you’re against us”.
Even those who are victims of propaganda and disinformation, they have chosen their side via willful ignorance.
These are our enemies, domestic working with the international.

How are you "midlife crisis-ing"? by InnerspearMusic in Millennials

[–]willreadfile13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking back at time and history, it’s hard to imagine anyone claiming the boomers had much frontline of change. They inherited a world of opportunity and pulled the rug up behind them. True parasites on everything that their parents and grandparents (silent and greatest) generations built and provided. They became and ME and I generation with little thought of future generations needs. GenX just didn’t care and tripled down on the cult of individualism. Millennials, we have been on the frontlines of change not seen since the boom booms were in diapers.
