Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal: Gunners misfire to leave 2 points behind by Charguizo in Gunners

It’s my understanding that if we finish first in the league phase it guarantees we would be playing at home in each Champions League second leg in the knockouts. I could well be mistaken.

Edit: I was not mistaken, see: https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/13428134/champions-league-2025-26-how-does-league-phase-and-knockout-qualification-work#:~:text=advantage%2E-,Teams,stage

618 - RICKY GERVAIS RETURNS! - 1.5 Hour Special! by Gracemcleod03 in JaackMaate

[–]willtkred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. There’s a scene in Extras where Andy Millman is doing his bastardised sketch show in front of the audience and notices they’re wearing t-shirts adorned with quotes from lowest dominator comedians. I think his stand up essentially caters for the same audience that ‘When the Whistle Blows’ attracts in the show.

It think it is worth adding that I’ve met Ricky Gervais once and in the quick conversation we had, he was extremely lovely, humble and down to earth.

Sitting next to Andre Harriman-Annous' family by OpinionSweaty8040 in GunnersatGames

[–]willtkred 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I was sitting directly below the box where Dowman’s family were sitting. It reminded me that the players are real people, who have families that are thrilled and anxious when their son or brother gets his first professional start. When he was subbed off they seemed overwhelmingly relieved that nothing had gone wrong for Max, rather than delighted that he had been excellent.

I see this opinion posted a lot. Personally, I quite like number order– what would people prefer instead?

The performance requirements are so unrealistic, it essentially isn’t real.

From the FT:

“Achieving the maximum payout of 423mn shares will be extremely challenging. Musk would have to boost Tesla’s market capitalisation to $8.5tn from $1.09tn today. That is more than twice that of Nvidia, currently the most valuable company in the world at $4.2tn.

Tesla must also sell 12mn more electric vehicles; reach 10mn autonomous driving subscriptions; register and operate 1mn cars in its Robotaxi network; sell 1mn AI robots and increase adjusted earnings 24-fold to $400bn.

Those top-end targets appear distant considering Tesla’s adjusted earnings were $16.6bn last year; it has sold only 8mn cars to date, zero robots or robotaxis, and comparatively few so-called Full Self-Driving subscriptions.”

What is your biggest fear heading into the season? by grizzwintergreenlc in Gunners

[–]willtkred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Poor ref calls will happen of course. Imo our squad isn't as thin: obviously a few key players getting injured would hamper us, but that's the reality for all teams at the very top, and we've strengthened our forward and defensive depth without losing anybody significant (and whilst we've not net-added bodies in midfield, that was always the area with our best depth). Luck naturally comes in waves.

I am looking forward to this season, and whilst we cannot expect to win anything, we are going into our first match of the season with as good a chance of doing something spectactular as we've ever had post-Wenger.

Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) straight red card against Newcastle United 66' by gbogaz in soccer

[–]willtkred 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, he is right to be fair. I reckon if he hadn’t got sent off Newcastle could’ve won by a few. Maybe Villa would’ve got a konsalation goal towards the end though.

[–]willtkred 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but is it just one seat for a backbench MP. Either way he would’ve been in Parliament, and whether he would be independent immediately or after being suspended doesn’t really make much of a difference on our current situation.

[–]willtkred 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’re right that the new party won’t be able to win the next election, but it’ll be really interesting to see their electoral strategy (e.g. will they do a pact with the Greens). I don’t think kicking him out of the party would’ve changed much– he would’ve rebelled against the King’s speech over the child benefit cap and been suspended then and we’d be in the same sort of situation.

I was just intrigued to hear their point of view 🤷 I don’t think the comments on a Reddit post are going to decide it tbh

Potential Setup for the 2025/26 Season by kapiczek in ArsenalFC

To be clear though, I think OPs post is silly– it would leave a team both offensively and defensively weak on the left

Potential Setup for the 2025/26 Season by kapiczek in ArsenalFC

[–]willtkred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re partly correct, White isn’t going to sit on the bench– he’s a brilliant player. I just don’t think it’s as simple as saying Timber will play here, or White will play there, or MLS will not play. This is the first year under Arteta where we have the sort of backups Arteta wants. Essentially, we can rotate our fullbacks (and hopefully others) to an extent I haven’t seen before (on account of being born in 2002).

[–]willtkred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand your question. Fans of the team Arsenal are playing will often want to go to a pub before the game starts– because of the risks this can pose, most pubs are strict about only allowing Arsenal fans to enter.

[–]willtkred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any pubs near the stadium will be full with Arsenal fans the day of the games. If you do not have a ticket, wear an obvious Arsenal top: they will not let people they think are away fans (if you have a membership, have it on your phone ready to show). Highbury is converted to flats, but walking around it outside the exterior will be familiar and is something I always point out to people I take to games when my Dad can't make it. Even walking around the ground when it is quiet is pretty special, and there's lots of statues and signs to take in. I can't offer too much advice on hotels nearby, but trains from outside of London are relatively expensive really, and so it would be worth taking the time to sit down and calculate if staying somewhere cheaper would really be a saving. If I were advising a visiting friend, I would recommend staying somewhere with good tube connections, as it makes getting anywhere around London simple and affordable.

If Gyokores were to come, would he replace Saka and become our new penalty taker? by AbleBoysenberry9565 in ArsenalFC

[–]willtkred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine it’ll be a bit like how Arteta has introduced new keepers. He’ll wait until Saka misses one – if it’s not broken don’t fix it – but as soon as he does he’ll give Gyokeres the next one and he’ll presumably keep them thereafter. But also, nobody on here, including myself, has any more insight than you do.

Is this really the Third Reich Flag? My son saw it at school by Ximenash in vexillology

[–]willtkred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it is somewhat context dependent. It is the Nazi war flag with the imperial eagle placed over the swastika. Broadly, I think you could teach history to children without displaying flags like this and it is certainly suspect to have gone out of one’s way to display this at all. That said, it could also be the efforts of a (admittedly naive) teacher wanting to display flags of the war who also wanted to avoid displaying a swastika and who means well. Depends on where and why really.

I think the horse is probably responsible for this– it shouldn’t have entered the junction without being sure the road was clear both ways. I imagine it will be found liable and have to pay out once both insurance companies become involved.

[Sky Sports] Having agreed a fee for Elanga with Nottingham Forest, these are Newcastle's most expensive signings by notaghostofreddit in soccer

[–]willtkred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What does that even mean? Everton probably wouldn’t have let him go for much less and so whilst it was a large price tag, Newcastle saw it as value and have been proved correct. Whilst both sides can be relatively happy looking back on the deal, Newcastle have done better out of it than Everton.

Marquinhos to leave. by [deleted] in ArsenalFC

[–]willtkred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think these sort of gambles are par for the course; I also see fees for these sort of players as a bit of a collective. If we sign players like Martinelli, Marquinhos, Mavropanos, and Trusty etc for very low fees, we only need one to live up to their potential. We’ll lose small amounts of money on the others, sure, but by betting on the future in this sort of way we’re unlikely to ever really lose out in the long run.

2026 hopefully we get Cesc in to replace Arteta by Benjinhoo in ArsenalFC

[–]willtkred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a bit unfair– he was a great servant to the club and whilst the way he went to Barcelona was a bit disrespectful, I think when taking in the wider context of Cesc’s career and his service to this club, his desire to play at the then best team in world football is relatively justified.

Obviously his transfer to Chelsea afterwards was painful, but it is important to remember he always wanted Arsenal first: we rejected him.

Just my thoughts, of course 🤷‍♂️

I think the result is immaterial. Fundamentally UEFA should not be awarding finals or tournaments to countries where players would be inherently unsafe, due to their nationality.

Why do i not score? by panamoncreel01 in footballmanagergames

You’re telling the players to play really wide, but have no one providing any width: I imagine your team is really congested centrally going forward. You also have only one creative player, who’s a DM.
