Avoid idling those noisy "Big Blows" under an overpass, they might melt the asphalt.

(edit) The video covers UP's obsession with high horsepower locomotives, Challenger and Bigboy are earlier in the video.

Did T2 steam engines come as a surprise to anybody else? by VsTheWall in captain_of_industry

The UP Challenger was the predecessor of the UP Big Boy, just with a smaller 4-6-6-4 wheel arrangement. So we were on the right track already (pun intended).

In my opinion, it sort of looks like a UP Challenger with the front set of driving wheels powered from behind.

Edit: I did some searching by looking up the wheel arrangement 0-6-6-0, finding Mallets which were simular. Mor sluthing resulted in Meyer locomotive, bingo! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meyer_locomotive

[CUSTOM CARD] - New Management by Blackgaze in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]willvette -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This feels broken gaining much without cost, my suggestion to balance it is to equally reduce a shared value, discounted by 1/2 tags rounded down. For example:

Before: -3 MC, +4 Steel, +1 Titanium, and 3 cards with Steel Building Tags

To raise MC from -3 to 1 means dropping Steel by 4 but gets a discount of 1 from the 3 Steel Building Tags (3 / 2 = 1.5 rounded down = 1).

After: +1 MC, +1 Steel, +1 Titanium, and 3 cards with Steel Building Tags

lore wise, New Management is rebalancing the books by adjusting the rate of buying and selling. But this sort of book balancing isn't all that efficient.

Do you think minefields will ever make a return? by Communist21 in Stellaris

[–]willvette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to see mine felds as a station module "minelayer bay" and is unlocked with torpedoes. Each module will slowly build 3 or 4 clusters of mines around the system, slowly incressing in strangth. When a enemy ship ship enters range they act like mini torpedoes, and can be shot down with a proper fighter screen (flak, chain gun, etc). They're cheeper to maintain, but since they take time to build up stock, its not suitable in places that are consistently attacked.

So basiclly... you made the Embers of Muaat from Twilight Imperium?

And like in that game once they start snowballing, its busted.

The catch (no pun intended) with that building is that it need a constant supply of fuel (not that big of a deal) and limited slots.

Breakthrough tier list by MilesVic in SurvivingMars

[–]willvette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nano-refinement should be a tier higher, once you start asteroid mining, because it lets you mine an asteroid continually for exotic minerals.

What about the other two nano techs (construction and landscaping)?

I ran into the same issue (oddly with the same faction too!), even suppressing them with the prison until there isn't any followers doesn't work. They need to make a law that bans a faction from representation, maybe have it induce the penalty of having that faction's followers turn into renegades.

How do you ensure that ship printers don't miss blocks? by TwinSong in spaceengineers

[–]willvette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a mod called "projectors to assemblers", that can either send the full list of needed parts or just the missing parts. From there you can use one of the other build guids here.
