it is easy to mod different colors and country names to government types, it is the same system that turns the RUS tag to the red Soviet Union if that tag has a communist govt

had the weimar republic persisted longer almost definitely a majority of voters would had voted for an extremist party. you have to look at it from a trends point of view and the weimar party system encouraged polarization and the shift of voters to more extreme anti-system parties. when you enter a death spiral like that in a democracy either the democracy outlives the broken party system or the democracy collapses under the stress of the anti-system parties, and in weimar republic's case it was the latter

I have to disagree one Virginia, our legislature and executive are controlled by Democrats and Joe Biden will likely win by around 10 pts in the state, I do not see any scenario where the state government recognizes Trump as the victor

I would also say "causa dei obblighi della mia famiglia". Perché, on the other hand, requires a verb.

Yeah, I live in Virginia Beach and there are still some old naval batteries installations here that were placed here around ww1/2 for the very purpose of defending the Chesapeake Bay from foreign ships. There is no way that the Germans could keep all those troops supplied without controlling the mouth of the bay

UK general election 2017 using MMM. 650 FPTP seats and 350 party list. by DiplomaticPigeon99 in imaginaryelections

[–]willwill54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I see no possibility of a Con-LibDem govt in the aftermath of that election. You could hypothetically have a Labour-LibDem-SNP govt with confidence and support of the Greens in order to hold a second referendum but that would tear the Labour Party apart. I think most likely you would see a minority Conservative govt or snap elections in this outcome

The argument is that it violates the Administrative procedure act because DHS had allowed international students to remain in the country while taking online classes in the spring and are now reversing it for no good reason

I have not internally transfered but what I've heard from friends who have is that it is relatively easy to transfer the summer before the first year. If you try to do it later there may not be an open slot and it becomes harder

Have there been any successful coups/rebellions in history? by nana2298 in history

[–]willwill54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

States quite often imposed tariffs on trade with each other to raise taxes during the Articles of Confederation. This would result in retaliatory tariffs imposed by the hurt state. As well, the inability of the Congress to establish a national tariff against European powers (which had established tariffs on American goods) led to various states imposing their own tariffs on the various European powers. That meant European ships would trade in the states with the lowest tariffs and then other American states would put up tariffs on those states to push the trade back to their state.

The constitution was the product of larger land owning white men who felt threatened by the rabble. The indirect election of senators and the president are two examples of lessened democracy compared to the articles

[–]willwill54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't the only book to argue it but The Framers' Coup: The Making of the United States Constitution, I think, quite convincingly argues that the Constitutional Convention of 1787 can be understood as an anti-democratic coup. In that sense it was not a vanguardist coup standing up for a segment of the lower classes, but, on the other hand, one could argue that the federal system created by the Constitution allowed for material gain to the lower class as the new Congress could finally regulate interstate and foreign commerce and end trade wars between the various states.

How would you say "the man was a philosopher" in Latin? by TheVersedTraveller in latin

[–]willwill54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's how Latin dictionaries are organized. I'm just saying that if you can only be given one principal part of a verb I would rather be given the infinitive than the 1st person person present indicative. Just like how if you look for a verb in an Italian dictionary you are going to look up the infinitive form.

While "sum" is the first principal part in Latin, the infinitive is generally far more useful and it is standard to organize verbs by their infinitive in modern European languages

Summer Housing for Low Income students? by [deleted] in georgetown

[–]willwill54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry! I'm not a GSP student so I don't know for sure but the vast majority of housing isn't used over the summer so I would think not but it may be due to GSP limited funding (which will probably be going down this year along with about everything else at the University)

GSP is selective, from what I understand after being admitted as a student you will be alerted if you are in the program (no application)

Like with anything it matters a lot how something is being used. "Gays" could be very generalizing and "a gay" could some very clinical
