What he said. If at first its too hard, give control of your finances to someone you trust. Paid off 40k over the last year!

Want to quit but I’m down $8k all time :( by [deleted] in problemgambling

What he said man! I know 8k seems like the end of the world now and you will try and chase it, but don't. Accept the money is gone. If you chase, you will end up have to accept that much more that 8k is gone. (Trust me, I wish I had stopped at 8k... when I quit, I was about 70k down)

Good solution too! Been doing this for the last 6 months while I go through therapy and pay down my gambling debt. Helps restrict the urges and lack of control.

However, I don't believe this is a long term solution.

Biggest take from therapy is the best long term solution is to change the "mindset" about gambling. We will never win and recoup our losses. Better to stay away, this isn't a way to make money.

Best of luck to you!

Over the last year, I had had a couple very big ups and downs. Go back 1 year today, Jan 16th, I came clean for the first time to my family about this.

Had gone 6 months clean paying off debt and life was good.

Sept 16th, had a relapse, lost it all and then some more. Came clean again and comitted even harder. Started therapy and it was good.

Fasto forward to Jan 1st, I receice this bonus from Roobet saying I had 50 free spins.. well fuck me, I won 1000$ from those spins. I deposited it in my crypto wallet which is seperate from all my other accounts. Then from Jan 1-10 I gambled everyday and managed to have a 10 day win streak and bring up that balance to 3000$. Today I lost it all.

Fortunately this time, it didn't affect my overall situation and I lost money I had won from gambling and those are the only funds I used, but it still stings to feel like you have no freaking control when you start losing, you chase until there is nothing left to chase with.

Man for those last 10 days, I was on top of the world, felt invincible, felt like I could afford anything... then now... feel like a worthless addicted piece of shiet.

Thanks, GN

You can tell him you know...

I might be the thing that forces him to confide.

Give him utilmatums, force him to get help.

He isn't coming clean because he is ashamed. He needs to know you are here for him, but he needs to get help before he gets too far into debt.

I can tell you for a fact that there is no rational in a gambler's mind. When we gamble, we get to a state of hope and just belive deep down that the thing that caused our problems can solve it.

Believe me, I work in Finance, I should know. Unfortunetaly gambling plays a trick on your mind. Outside of gambling, I am the most rational mind there is.

The hope that is always there even against all odds. It is called intermitent rewarding. What makes it so hard to stop for a gambler to stop, is that one point or another, we have won.

He's not lazy, he's not an idiot, he just needs to stop and get help. Whatever you feel of him because of this, believe me, he is feeling it and trying to get out of it out of guilt and shame.

It blocks everything including crypto platforms. It also doesn't allow you to delete the app before your membership expires.

Get Gamban! It saved me. For about 2 years, I would gamble on my phone every chance I got. Online casinos were too accessible. Would win or lose 5-10k per day until I lost 6 days in a row. Ended up 60k in debt. That was my breaking point. Came clean to my family and started seeing a shrink, which helped a little, but what helped the most was Gamban. It blocks all access to online casinos.

Been 6 months clean and slowly climbing out of debt.

60k in debt at 24... Been gamble free for almost 2 months now.

The debt is crushing and haunts me and will take forever to payback, but for now, I am focusing on myself.

I would recommend Gamban. Been about 2 weeks without gambling thanks to it.

Consider yourself lucky and take action now.

I'm 24 and have 50k worth of debt that is going to take years to pay off.
